Seeing Rotem and you exchange ideas is just what I needed to start my day. Excellent video, master. Gonna have and learn a lot out of this one as always.
I’m not a jazz fan - sometimes when I listen to it it seems as if the guitar player is purposely playing all the wrong notes. I just don’t have the ear or talent for it. But your channel is the best - you break down theory and harmony so it is less complex and frustrating so that I can enjoy learning and playing guitar. So thank you for putting these videos out!
You should listen to Ted Greene, he plays jazz but it's very beautiful and you would probably like his playing. Joe pass and Kenny Burrell are other players that play beautiful jazz as well.
Such a great lesson! there are so many ideas that are being presented. It's eye-opening and it's taught in a very accessible way, usually reharmonization and chord melody can get confusing very quickly, but not here.
not a jazz player really but not naive to the concepts; when he did the A9 substitution and passing chords with the explanation of his logic that was an Aha! moment--it works so well being outside and then sliding back in at the next check point; thanks for this!
Beautiful. I loved the counterpoint section there. This is really cool to break down things in these different levels. I fall in the middle, so it’s really inspiring to see something that is easy for me and then see you guys go further and further with it. Thanks!
Hi Jens, This is probably one of the best videos I've had the chance to see on chord melody and I think I've watched a lot. Thank you for that ! I really enjoyed the discussion format that allows to discover how to work on these stuff and also to have someone (you in this case :) ) asking the questions you might ask yourself along the way. Cheers !
Been learning music theory on my own for awhile, trying to be more fluent in my playing. Even though some of your videos are more advanced than me. I enjoy them all the same. They show me where I can get. This video with phrases like "Colors, & Roads" I totally understood this, and makes me want to journey farther into this rabbit hole. Thanks for this video
Excellent tutorial. The addition of counter voice particularly complements Jazz Guitar Roadmap. I'm thinking about how to apply these principles to Take the A Train.
Great Video! I was wondering if you could give some insight into what Rotem was thinking when he played each variation. Was he thinking about each individual chord and voicing? Cheers
Well, I am not a mind reader, but I would imagine that he is aware of the chords but not thinking about them consciously. Playing Jazz is like driving a car, you don't think about each separate movement, you have practiced so that it becomes about the high level decisions
Jens I enjoyed you and Rotem but I couldn’t help notice Rotem’s Guitar...it looks like a 175 body but flat with no f-holes, the neck has different inlays and the head stock says Gibson but the inlay looks like an Epiphone...the tailpiece is different and the electronic’s, interesting including the cork...could you let me know if any of these observations are correct and expand a little...after I got over looking at his guitar the content was very interesting as usual...thank you so much for everything you put out....
Hi Jens, what is the concept or voicings at 6:48 in replacement of block Fm7? I've been trying to find new voicings for my "toolbox". Thank you guys for a beautiful and creative lesson!
@@JensLarsen Cool thanks! Yes. I guess I meant to ask what specific voicing are used at that moment, what notes are being played? Could you tell us? :) I love the sound but can't seem to figure it out by ear (trying) what notes are in those 3 or 4 subsequent voicings you are playing. It doesnt sound like a voicing of 1,3,7. Regards and thanks again for all your excellent videos and playing
It is the 8030c. But I forgot that I also recorded the guitars directly and you hear that as well. It also gives some odd artifacts and phasing here and there. Sorry, this video was recorded last year 😁
Thanks to @Rotem for being a part of this video. Check out these great lessons from him: ruclips.net/video/qSSYO1XIP48/видео.html
Thanks so much brother!!! 🙏

Keep the movement of the melody, but let go of the harmony the ears expect.
You are very welcome 🙂
Like any other music it's a language. If you aren't exposed to it, it's not gonna sound right at first
You should listen to Ted Greene, he plays jazz but it's very beautiful and you would probably like his playing. Joe pass and Kenny Burrell are other players that play beautiful jazz as well.
Great video. Using a conversations as a way of teaching is so much more interesting. More of this type please.
Thank you! I will try to do more collaborations when that is possible
Ok you got me... the counterpoint section is exceptional

Great video..Nice to see the contrast between a "ear" player and a beast like Jens, whos able to put theory to the method on the spot.
I practice these chord progressions on my harmonicas. They make me a much better player. Thank you.
Great stuff. Thanks guys!
Glad you enjoyed it!

itd be wonderful to see you two have a guitaristic conversation like a duet album
a great video and very cool guitar playing, you guys rock. the 5th method is to difficult for me. I like the 2, 3rd, and 4th methods I can work with.
Thanks Tom! Rotem is both a fantastic player and a great guy!
Jens this was so helpful! I need to support your videos.
Great lesson! I’ve got my next Standard to learn now! Cheers guys.

Interesting Pickguard and Stringtree.
Great great great!!!!!.

Great video! I love the onscreen tabs.
I got myself some corkboard and I got myself some leather wraps, time to really learn some jazzguitar.
Those things hurt my eyes!
Anyway, the lesson is awesome! Thanks guys!
Awesome! Session
Thank you 🙂
Both of you are inspiring. ❤️ this.
Rotem is amazing! Hope you guys jammed out on some stuff too 🎸
Yes, we had a lot of fun jamming as well :)
Wow what a great video!
wow.... I love this video.
I'm glad to hear that!
Master guitarist
Rotem's got a little big channel, that was evident even to me 😅 Thank you for confirming my impressions, prof. Jens!
Love your videos mate, keep crushing it 💯🔥
bravo please make more about chord melody, grateful for all.cordial greetings.***
What is with the corkboard taped onto Rotems guitar?
I say something similar when explaining what it means to tonicize a chord: you make the chord Rome by making the road lead to it.
Like it.
Thanks!
i liked level 4 most, sounds very jim hall-esque
Great Video! I was wondering if you could give some insight into what Rotem was thinking when he played each variation. Was he thinking about each individual chord and voicing? Cheers

@@JensLarsen haha😂 yes of course you're not a mind reader, thanks for the help!
All the Things You Are... but there's more!
Was that guitar once a beautiful Howard Roberts model?

Hi Jens, what is the concept or voicings at 6:48 in replacement of block Fm7? I've been trying to find new voicings for my "toolbox". Thank you guys for a beautiful and creative lesson!
Thanks! There is no concept, I am just playing different types of Fm voicings

@@user-oy4oy4us8j You should check out this video, that covers some of them
Any1 know where to get one of them cool fancy leather fret wraps?
Also what’s up with the cork sheet covering the middle pickup?
I was wondering about the cork, too?
Is this green screen or are two of my favourite yt teachers in the Same room? Rotem in NL?
He was here, but it is a few months ago before COVID went completely nuts again. Hopefully he will come by more often :)
I thought hear some octave effects in his signal, if not - his guitar gives off some wonderful overtones
Does the sound come from the Genelecs behind?
My sound comes only from the genelecs and Rotem is through the Genelecs and an amp
@@JensLarsen thank you for the reply! Are these the 8020s? Is this the case for other videos as well?

OMG is everyone in your country a jazz master ? 😉
