    I love that during the Marvão segment I was just thinking about how I fell there when I was a little kid and scrapped my knee 😅😂 and what do you know? They showed the exact place I fell in the next footages 😂
    But when you come to Portugal, you should definitely visit Barcelos (my city) where the symbol of the Rooster originates from (shameless plug here 😂) but in all seriousness..it is a beautiful city

    Almourol castle: *hold my beer...*
    😉
    If you ever come to Tomar you should also visit Almourol, it's not far (around 25kms).

    I was born and lived next to the Batalha monastery and studied stonework there, the style you were seeing when you stopped the image is called Manueline Portuguese style, the main characteristics were the symbols of maritime discoveries, in the last years of construction as the main style is gothic. This Maueline portal is in the imperfect chapels, they were never finished, the project was abandoned after the death of the king and the architect due to the complexity of the work. It's not in Lisbon, but it's the second most visited monument

    Tomar doesn't have a castle actually - that is a convent, and it was the seat of the Templar Order in Portugal. In fact, after the extinction of the templar orders in Europe, Portugal protected their orders, and renamed them, allowing them to keep their status and wealth. As a matter of fact, the age of discoveries was founded by the templar order, as Prince Henry the Navigator was its grand meister. That is called Convento de Cristo and it is one of my favourite monuments in Portugal.

    Hi, the statue you are talking about is in Almada, a city on the south side of the river Tejo, and you can see it from Lisbon. It's like the one in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, but in a smaller scale.

    • @pauloleitao3162

      Explica-me porque é que a estátua do brasil tem 38 metros de altura e a de almada tem 110 metros de altura mas é mais pequena!!!!????😂😂😂

    • @mariam.3224
      @mariam.3224 3 месяца назад +1

      @@pauloleitao3162 explico sim: 110 mt altura, são 28 Mt da estátua e 82 mt do pedestal... A estátua do Brasil tem 30 mt de altura e o pedestal tem 8 mt de, altura, logo, a estátua do Brasil tem mais 2mt altura do que a nossa em Almada... E não há problema nenhum nisso😉

    • @ruben83alves
      @ruben83alves 3 месяца назад +2

      Estátua / pedestal:
      Lisboa: 28m / 82m (133m acima do nível do rio Tejo e inaugurado em 1931)
      Rio de Janeiro: 30m /8m (709 acima do nível do mar e inaugurado em 1959)
      Madeira: 14m total com pedestal e a cerca de 200m do nível do mar, sendo considerado o mais antigo monumento ao Cristo Rei edificado no mundo, tendo sido inaugurado em 1927.

      @@ruben83alves A primeira estátua do Cristo Rei a ser edificada foi a MADEIRA ao qual tem o nome dado pelos locais de CARAJAU (se não me engano quanto ao nome)!
      Por isso não, o do RIO DE JANEIRO não foi o primeiro e o de LISBOA também não é uma cópia da do Brasil como muitos dizem, basta ver todos os detalhes que a estátua tem, tal como a da MADEIRA!
      Abraços Lusitânos e Alfacinhas para ti e para os teus!
      Cheers.

    My favorite part of Portugal is Gerês, as for cities and towns… I would have to say Sintra, Porto, Lisbon, Évora, Coimbra, Aveiro, Viana do Castelo, Braga, Bragança, Cascais, and of course the islands of Azores and Madeira.

  • @RuiCBGLima

    Madeira is portuguese yes, not spanish, although it's close to the Canary islands.
    Madeira means literally "Wood" because when they found the Madeira Archipelago (or island chain) it was filled with wood.
    The island chain is made of 4 islands: Madeira island (the big one) and Porto Santo, both inhabited; and then the Deserted island(s), and the Savage island(s) both uninhabited (given the name). The later actually very close to the Canaryes of Spain

    While Tomar is a amazing place to visit, it have a little "problem". When we visit Tomar, everything is beautifull, and we see the Templars buildings, and all that, but the best way is with a guide, and especialy of the guide teuly understands all the little details of the city. Tomar is not a ordinary city, it's not even like other Templar cities in Europe, Tomar is THE Templar city in the world. They build it from scratch, and they build it to be their headquarters. It have so much details and so much secrets, that centuries later we still believe some secrets are still unknown. Again, amazing place, but visiting with some context it's even better.

    For me, Porto city is more beautiful than Lisboa and than Faro in the Algarve and I prefer CASCAIS, ESTORIL, SINTRA... to Lisboa. I also like EVORA in the south of Portugal and VISEU, GUARDA and the mountain SERRA DA ESTRELA in the BEIRA ALTA area. Lisboa city belongs to foreigners ! I like Coimbra too.
