This feels like the series was going to take on even more Dune homages. Just look at how Sasha rides a giant worm to grab a weapon to earn the toads’ support.
I watched the 1984 Dune and Part One recently and it’s amazing how many parallels there are to the series just under the JRPG homage surface.
If their eyes were going to change like that? It reminds me the blue eyes the Fremen had while consuming the spice melange. Especially if the changes were permanent.
Not to mention the toads are the warrior half of the Fremen like the frogs are the agrarian half. With Andrias and the robots being akin to the Emperor and Sardaukar as well as a bit of Leto II thrown in since they were once conquerors. The entire Core and the Calamity powers are basically versions of the Kwisatz Haderach. One engineered and the other from a higher power.
Though this metaphor doesn’t quite work if the toads are the ultimate bad guys, maybe the change to pilot was always going to shift it to be similar to the final show?

@@jturner2577 The only reason I didn’t see it sooner is because the last time I seen anything Dune related was when I was little. And it’s pretty obscure as far as franchises go since it hasn’t been adapted in the mainstream for over forty years.
Even then? I didn’t remember it or recognize any references until I seen Part One.
I would LOVE for Amphibia/The Owl House to get thier own "Distant Lands" seires. Like an anthology of hour-long specials to tie up loose ends and character arcs, or just to showcase what life has been like for the characters after the show's conclusion.
That would sound very cool.

The choice to change sprig’s character design was such a good call. It made him look more like a kid, someone Anne would be friends with, and he doesn’t look so clumsy or goofy.
Honestly, I agree with that. The final design for Sprig has a lot more distinction to it, being pink with the cap and goggles. Pilot Sprig kinda just looks like a young Hop Pop.
Sashas changes were needed too. She was just so ugly in this

In the end I think they made the right decisions with the maturing of Anne, redemption of Sasha, the slow burn reveal of The Core, and use of Marcy as a host trapped in her own fantasy world. It all just works so well for the arcs of each character.
I'd be interested sure to see how different the story would've turned out if they went the "Dasha" route, ..but I think Sasha's worldview and actions being entirely her own, something for HER to change, is much more powerful and makes her a really compelling character.
Had Sasha been possessed by whatever entity this is early on at Toad Tower, I think a lot of that growth potential honestly would've been lost. Ultimately I'm pretty happy with the arcs turned out for each character, and depiction of the entity as The Core was an interesting angle in the story.

In that episode, it seemed curious to me that the toad soldiers had shiny eyes and seemed controlled, I don't know if that was explained because after that episode the toads look normal, I feel like these are the remains of a Grimme plot using mind control or something like that

I don't know if this implies she's possessed by the Toads like Marcy was by the Newts, or if she's been enhanced by toad technology/magic. If it's the former, I prefer her being part of the Toad Army through her own accord and a mutual trust and comradery with Grime. If it's the latter, imagine her Super Sayian mode appearing earlier in the series.
