    Hi Christina. I gotta tell you…I so look forward to your videos. I've watched many others on chalk painting but you are my favorite. I like how you are succinct, explain why you do what you do, and are very organized. The printed tips at the bottom as you go along and clear camera shots are a plus. Very well done, so thank you. I want to do my dresser in old white but I would like to have a darker top. Should I just destress the top heavier to get some of the natural wood to show through or use the dark wax? I just do not want the piece ALL white and the only other option is the color graphite which is black. I'm not feeling too comfortable doing a black top but I do want the top of my piece much darker then the body. Please give me your opinion. Thank you.

    your video has a pop up that says to dark wax over wet clear wax, yet your piece has been completely done with clear wax...so did you immediately, after the clear wax go to your dark wax? I'm asking because I have a piece where I'm done with the clear wax but have to go to an appointment. Therefore, when I get back or tomorrow, will I have to clear wax again before applying dark wax?

    Xclnt tutorial, thank you. Am new to this hobby and have a basic question. Where chalk paint brings a flat finish as part of its appeal, the waxing then masks this chalky finish with a low luster. Is waxing a necessary part of the project in order to protect the piece?

      My wife and I refinish furniture with this look but we have a huge dresser in our bedroom that we did with Old White and then just left it that way with no distressing. Pair it with black hardware and stain the top of a piece with a dark color and then clear coat (and then buff like crazy) the top for a really clean look without the "haze" of wax. It will be unprotected though so having it on a high traffic piece will mean you'll have to do touch ups

    I'm not really understanding the purpose of the steel wool instead of a clean lint free rag, especially since the steel wool "sheds" as you said

  • @MomofTheo
    @MomofTheo 7 лет назад

    I am following this method but my piece looks a bit splotchy in the middle. What am I doing wrong? Also...my steel wool is shedding and tiny little fibers are getting into my brushes and the wax. Eek!! I bought exactly what you said you use. What the heck.

    • @ChristinaMuscari
      @ChristinaMuscari  7 лет назад

      +Jessica Wilson The steel wool will wipe off when you gently wipe your piece with the lint free cloth. Use a lighter hand with your dark wax if you think it looks splotchy. Or you can cut it with more clear wax. You can also take clear wax over the splotchy part and it will lift some of the dark wax. It sometimes takes a bit a playing around to get it where you want. Good luck.

    Seems like you mixed a heck of a lot of wax on the plate when you used very little on the piece?

      +Guy Christie Right? I did overdo it. I'm not used to painting a little piece like this. You can always save your leftovers in an airtight can or jar.

    Very nice! I would love to see close ups of the finished plain side panel that you waxed last.

      I know. I am so bummed that Annie Sloan no longer sells online. I work with some great new paints you can get online though. Check out my Dixie Belle and Jolie videos. I highly recommend both brands.

    Shouldn't it be darker where the handle goes, obviously that have get the most use, if this was originally a distress piece.

    Chalk paint furniture is so overrated. Soon it will be out of fad/style (if it isn't already) since everyone and their mother is into it. Not everyone wants the farm look either. Just my honest two-cents.
