Very nice to see a TAS with such a detailed explanation - both regarding the hints about why you do what, and the basic information about the game in general.
Absolute favorite SNES game. Gameplay, music, storyline. I still remember the first time I got to 1:35:55 and heard the soundtrack with the dusk, thundering environment.
TAS with embedded commentary -- really excellent, especially since a screen recording usually isn't the preferred "master copy" for TAS submission. It lets people who are a little less familiar with the game's arcana appreciate what's happening without having to endlessly flip to a text file.
I saw this video for the first time about a year ago. Out of the hundreds of TASes I've seen, this is still my favorite. Many thanks to Touch-me for explaining much of what's going on- makes it all the more entertaining!
This game was - hands down - my favorite game from my childhood. I played this with my best friend and my brother, beating it several times. Thanks for this blast from the past.
Excellent! I love how you documented all glitches and stuff we couldn't possibly understand. Live HP and XP view just added to the greatness. I hope we see more TAS videos like these!
Probably my top 3 games of all time. Thanks for sharing and all the editing work behind it. Would love to play a real remaster as it was done for Link's Awakening.
The side text is due to Touch-me using a program called AviUtil ( spring-fragrance.mints.ne.jp/aviutl/ ). Unfortunately, it is a Japanese text only program. So I'm unfamiliar with how it works.
That was unreal! this was the first RPG i completed when i was at the age of 10 =D I wish everyone could fully appreciate the difficulty/time/effort/patience that goes into making these.
i loved playing this game when i was a teenager im 31 now damn im old lol but this game is beloved by all especially me and it just brings back memories to se it again i wish i had a super nintendo so i can play it again :-(
@CSLK6 I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be Salamander to go along with Gnome, Undine, etc., but was cut short due to programming constraints on name length.
Quite possibly the best TAS I have seen in the past 4 years. I watch these videos all the time, and I always find myself asking: 'Why did he just do that?' Or, 'Why does he go up the stairs sideways?' Well, now I know. I loved, LOVED the extra little commentary you provided. Also, the HP and XP for everything on-screen was very well done. Don't change anything, because this is freaking perfect! :D
They also have similar soundtracks! I just noticed this today, but the songs Monarch on the Shore (Secret of Mana) and Shinra's Full-Scale Assault (FF7) have the same little tune that plays in both songs!
I think more TAS videos could use the extra comments on how the action is done/calculated/etc, why they do it that way, and what the benefit of doing it is. Entertains while satisfying curiousity
Synday SoM is my fave game of all time but undertale is really awesome too. It's just the fanbase and all the videos on it that ruined it. It is supposed to be played without any knowledge of it, otherwise it's shit.
lol at thr comments that didn't know this was a glitched run. Of course it is. It wouldn't be physically possible to finish the game that quickly if it wasn't. You'd know that if you actually played it.
Masterfully done my friend, I really enjoyed watching the whole thing... thx for the explanations you put in the bottom of the video I found them really interesting and I may try some of the tricks you pulled off in the future.. btw, the final line of Dyluck made me laugh xD "you're A right? take good care of B" hehe
Well the points were actual quite "fair" to find, its not much on the map that you cant go to, most areas are quite obvisious landing points. Had no problem and found it crazy cool at the time on the SNES to have this pseudo 3D flying around, was totally fun for that time and my age at that time.
Seiken Densetsu 1 was Final Fantasy Adventure over here. Final Fantasy Legend I, II, & III were actually the SaGa games in Japan. You're right about the Seiken Densetsu 2 and 3, though. :3
dude, this is freakin fantastic! love how you cut off half of the sunken continent and the entire pure land. still not quite sure how going to kakkara first works out faster though!
Then you don't understand tool-assisted speedruns and should not watch recordings of them without expecting to look exceedingly foolish. TAS is for all games, not just the ones you "think" it should be for... if someone wants to do it, let them do it; if they don't, let them not. For me it's the shortest way to see most of a game again that I've played all the way through several times but will probably never replay. At the same time I get to see things about the game I never knew. Fun!
This is a game that should NEVER be rushed...SoM, Chrono Trigger, FF 4,6, mario RPG...These are SNES gems that should be thoroughly enjoyed with every playthrough.
battheman777 Well yeah. Even if I could speed run I reckon it's much better to fully experience the games properly but there is skill in this and why tell people what they should and shouldn't do? They would have completed it properly previously anyway.
I don't know if touch-me knows this, but there's a skip to go straight from flammie to the doppleganger fight, as well as skipping everything in the grand palace except the bosses. I'd love to see a TAS with those tricks in it someday. Maybe sub 1:30 potential?
I was waiting for a SoM TAS for so long! Thanks! ^_^_^_^_^_^_^ Quick question: would it not have been faster to go through the stairs after the Sprite show instead of walking around and back up to the room? Just wondering.
70 minutes into the vid, I was wondering how you could manage the rest in 44, well SKIPPAN'. I wish more TASers would make videos as nice as this one, much more pleasant to watch.
Watching any kind of TAS for an RPG is rough on me, simply because there is that part of me that wants to shout "You missed a treasure chest, you have to go back!".
Does anyone know how he gets the option to travel to Gaia's Navel with the cannon travel after going to the water palace for the first time? Usually it still only allows you to travel to the water palace at that point....
Estas jugando en un modo muy facil y hay bichos q no te salen... cuando juego me salen en determinadas zonas varios mobs q a ti no... pero como guia de juego está excelente!
Boy: And me? Undine: Your sword will one day become more powerful than any magic... via the glitch strike! In fact, I'd be surprised if you actually USED magic to attack anything on this jouney...
You didnt use the rope trick at undine. When getting close to undine, use the rope and then the cutscene will play out next to the entrance saving a lot of time.
All TAS should be presented this way, with these real-time explanations.
Screw all the people complaining. This is a fantastic TAS speedrun.
The annotations are incredible. More people need to do this.
Very nice to see a TAS with such a detailed explanation -
both regarding the hints about why you do what, and the basic information about the game in general.
This is my absolute favorite game. I have so many memories as a child playing this game.

This is my favourite game of all time, and this is also my favourite TAS
Thanks for typing the info out as we're going along. It gives us an inside view of the processes!
I love the comment and explainations and stats in the margins of the video!
Great job!
Playing SOM again after 16 years... Brings back so many great childhood memories. I hope to play this with my son when he's old enough.
This TAS is an Art in itself. Very well done.. i dont care how old this one is, nor the game

The series really needs to get even more popular!!
This is absolutely spectacular. The commentary is just brilliant.
The best TASes have good commentary, bravo on going one step beyond and adding a score counter!
Probably my top 3 games of all time.
Thanks for sharing and all the editing work behind it.
Would love to play a real remaster as it was done for Link's Awakening.
This TAS commentary is an incredible feature, and should be a standard.
This was just incredible, so well done and the commentary really puts it over the top. Great great job!
Thank you for this video!!!! This game is a JEWEL of role-players early learning!!!!
Well done!
Waving from Georgia!
Poppy
You're very welcome. Waving back from Georgia.
OmnipotentEntity ~ Where is all that side and bottom text coming from? What emulator are you using????
The side text is due to Touch-me using a program called AviUtil ( spring-fragrance.mints.ne.jp/aviutl/ ). Unfortunately, it is a Japanese text only program. So I'm unfamiliar with how it works.

I loved the written commentary on this video, fantastic run!
I know. I just turned 31 and remember playing this game a lot in the early-mid 90s.
This game is so good i can even play it again, i dont want to ruin my memories with anything
i loved playing this game when i was a teenager im 31 now damn im old lol but this game is beloved by all especially me and it just brings back memories to se it again i wish i had a super nintendo so i can play it again :-(
Really cool TAS dude! You went the extra mile w/ the video, which is awesome.
This game is almost as sad as Lufia II... This shit's been traumatic for me as a child, man. You have no idea...
Have to agree with you. Its really sad from the beginning until the end. You question yourself some things.
not true, the game has great uplifting music, you guys have problems.
yeah man, Lufia II had a great world and to this day Maxim's sacrifice and his reunion with Selan touches me
simply amazing

One of best RPGs games I've played and finished ittook lot of hour
This is pretty damn amazing.
Amazing run! Also great job with all the additional information.
i remember this from my childhood. took us weeks/months to get to the final boss and kill it
i noticed how the dialouge isnt to organized well in this game, other than that one of the greatest videos of this game ever omni
Je ne savais pas qu'on pouvait aller direct à la grotte Gaia en passant par le canon.
And damn the music in the tempel level creeped me out as a child, i just wanted to run through the level, that was a time.
Thanks for that video! I really appreciated your performance an all the background information.
Absolutely awesome, kind sir! Have a nice day!
this run is perfect...
Loved the commentary and stats. Hopefully we'll see more in future runs. :3
this is mad, great speed run
I just realized that FF7 and SD2 have very similar storylines...
the Empire = the Shinra
Mana = Mako
Thanatos = Sephiroth
Mana Beast = the "Weapon"
***** maybe its time for you to realyze that final fantasy stories are always the same shitstory
***** This is probably why they're my favourite games of all time :D
mind = blown
They also have similar soundtracks! I just noticed this today, but the songs Monarch on the Shore (Secret of Mana) and Shinra's Full-Scale Assault (FF7) have the same little tune that plays in both songs!
Neat vid and Iike the commentary thru out, wish more tas had that
I love the part how Sprite laughing while the Boy dragged him into the room, after he told the guards that rats eat up their foods.
Michael Jackson would be proud.
IronCatfish haha yes!
the people demand a new and optimized tas!
with same informational layout also. this is by far my fav tas
Tnx for video! :) Love that!
I think more TAS videos could use the extra comments on how the action is done/calculated/etc, why they do it that way, and what the benefit of doing it is. Entertains while satisfying curiousity
1:26:11 The thought of the mouse traveling through the Tree Palace to reach the cheese fills you with DETERMINATION.
+Soho Joe don't even compare undertale with a game as good as SoM.
You'd know that if you actually played it.
i LOVE THAT RELAXING MUSIC..TOO
"You made a vow to your mother, the Mana Tree, right?"
"Who?"
Masterfully done my friend, I really enjoyed watching the whole thing...
thx for the explanations you put in the bottom of the video I found them really interesting and I may try some of the tricks you pulled off in the future..
btw, the final line of Dyluck made me laugh xD
"you're A right? take good care of B" hehe
Btw, amazing TAS! Holy balls man this was just insane!
"Massage my back!"
Even as a kid that always seemed strange...
Chuck Keers I'd rather have my gums scraped.
Well the points were actual quite "fair" to find, its not much on the map that you cant go to, most areas are quite obvisious landing points.
Had no problem and found it crazy cool at the time on the SNES to have this pseudo 3D flying around, was totally fun for that time and my age at that time.
nice to see a 3-player speedrun :D
THIS IS SO CLASSIC....HAVE YOU SPOKE TO THE MANA TREE YET?
At 12:05 I'm not sure but maybe you can get faster to the right room by reentering the left room and passing the bar to get to the warp behind.
I played this game for over a year and couldn't beat it. You truly put me to shame!!!!!
Seiken Densetsu 1 was Final Fantasy Adventure over here.
Final Fantasy Legend I, II, & III were actually the SaGa games in Japan.
You're right about the Seiken Densetsu 2 and 3, though. :3
and brought to you by the SNES gaming system
1:24:42 -- Love that song
ERES UN PINCHE CRACK PINCHE PROOOOOO
dude, this is freakin fantastic! love how you cut off half of the sunken continent and the entire pure land. still not quite sure how going to kakkara first works out faster though!
A:B
B:Z... we will not forget you
And holy shit, he did it
I want to see a TAS coop of Battletoads
mmh... Just Awesome man. Thanks.
Cool, thanks for the reply. ^_^
the amount of 'bosses' in this game is ridiculous xD
One of the best game....Chrono Trigger #1 for me...
Then you don't understand tool-assisted speedruns and should not watch recordings of them without expecting to look exceedingly foolish.

Lol, two hours. I've spent longer than that in single locations just trying to grind. This is great, just to relive it without all the effort.
Thanks! ^_^_^_^_^_^_^
Quick question: would it not have been faster to go through the stairs after the Sprite show instead of walking around and back up to the room? Just wondering.
@KUR1SU There's already a how-to-TAS video series, check out nitsuja's channel here on youtube.
That weapon charge glitch...lol wow.
Secret of mana is the best game of genarations
Thanks ;)
"Hey, we need you to save the world in one hour forty six and a half minutes. Up to the challenge?"
I will not touch you.
70 minutes into the vid, I was wondering how you could manage the rest in 44, well SKIPPAN'.
I wish more TASers would make videos as nice as this one, much more pleasant to watch.
"It is internationally regarded as the first one of Mana series..."
Even though the first game was Final Fantasy Adventure for GB
Didn't read the rest of the description did you?
mode 7 graphics! yes!
Watching any kind of TAS for an RPG is rough on me, simply because there is that part of me that wants to shout "You missed a treasure chest, you have to go back!".
muito bom !
como o cara mato o boss com um golpe?
you're fuckin' good !

this is definitely one of my all-time favorite games, but good lord is it glitchy...
I remember once I skipped Luka early in the game and screwed everything up...had to start from scratch.
You really like ellipses.
You didnt use the rope trick at undine. When getting close to undine, use the rope and then the cutscene will play out next to the entrance saving a lot of time.
