Heck ya….. was waiting for this one. Great stuff “E”. My Para 3 15V is going nowhere and I’m checking everyday for the Native 5 and then I’m set !!!! Thank you Erica….. 👍🙌🙏❤️
I just got a Para lightweight in Magnacut last week. I love the blade. I'm not used to the lightweight handle. I have a SV45 and a Maxamet version with the heavier handles that I'm used to. Thanks for this review!
I am one of those who you influenced on 15v. I'm waiting for native 5 due to having para 3 lw with cruwear. Love that knife. Thanks for doing what you do
I like that you use your knives for every day tasks no matter what. People I come across that buy knives 150 and up tend to baby them or just fondle them. They would never carry them all day every day. Cut up beef ribs or process a turkey carcass. I use mine at a horse ranch. They get dirty but I care for them. I’m happy with my Para 3 lightweight in CTS BD1N.
I have a para 3 in 10V, and while obviously somewhat inferior to 15V, it holds and edge like crazy. Not to mention, I'm pretty sure it's heat treated to a very high HRC from Spyderco. I have sharpened it once in a year, the rest was just a bit of ceramic honning and stropping. As a side note, you 100% deserve to be in the discussion with Spyderco, and I would 100% buy a collaboration knife between you and Spyderco!!
I just bought this exact knife yesterday, my credit card had 25% back at SMKW and I had just watched the last video you made about the update of this steel testing.
I have Shawn's one-of-a-kind half flex trapper in 15v and that thing is unreal. It flexes like a fillet knife but it's 65hrc. I just got a para 3 and it hasn't left my pocket.
I have been waiting for this review! I had a gut feeling that this was going to be the best of the high edge retention steels. The tungsten varieties have to low of a toughness. 15V seems to make the right compromises and I am going to be looking for the Manix 2 release. The Stretch 2 is also very nice, I have one in K390. I looked for 15V steel to make an edc fixed blade, but it is nowhere to be found right now.
@@ericasedc I signed up on a list for the Manix 2 😁😁They are listed as coming soon! I'll have to keep a close eye on it because I bet they will sell fast.
I've had the same type of experience with my 15v G-10 version. It has & will dominate pocket time over all of my 38 folders for EDC. It's pretty damn close to perfection.
It's my EDC knife I carry now. I did order a different pocket clip for it, other than that, it's been great. Had to cut some plastic zip ties and this knife cut right through them no problem

I was able to get it in Para 3 G-10 and can't wait to start carrying it:). Thank you once more for sharing your experience using 15v for the month, I'm also curious about how you feel when it comes to sharpening it as I have heard both sides and am curious to hear your experience. Glad you enjoyed the 15v and wish you a good weekend.
“Imagine customers asking for things that they want to pay money for & a company actually listening” thank you. Any thoughts on magpul MIM’ing knife blades? Cheers
I have that same 15v model. That one and the Delica in k390 are my daily drivers along with a GEC farm and field 99, or the MB Valar in K390. The only thing I wish was that Spyderco would make the PM3 0.015” or a little less behind the edge.
I want to get my hands on 15V. I'm doing my best to hold out until the Native 5 G10 version comes out. Local store carries the para 3 LW and i am doing my best to resist purchasing it just for the sake of getting the steel. 😅
I am so excited for the 15v G10 native 5. My native 5 in maxamet is my most carried knife. It can be a little chippy sometimes but man it holds a good edge. If 15V with the BBB heat treat Is this good I might just give my maxamet native away.
Just got Rex121 last week, not concerned about sharpening it, since I have good cbn stones. I have to think 15V will be my next new steel, just which knife to get it in.....
Why would you not want to take the PM3 w/ 15V hunting? I think it would be perfect; lightweight, super sharp and durable. It’s nice to listen to someone who has used a knife for something other than cutting cardboard and rope on video. I feel like what you used this knife for is an accurate test for a knife that would appeal to an outdoorsman or hunter like myself. Good realistic video. Thanks for sharing.
Great video, really enjoyed it. I'm really enjoying my para 3 lightweight. I've used it heavily in the last month and it's still blazing through boxes and hard plastic tubing. What stones will you use to sharpen it?
Picked up the LW when it dropped and REC had the g10 available so I picked it up. Stupid sharp. I think I’ll pick up the g10 native even though I’m not a fan of the back lock. Microjimbo? No question. Imagine how slicey that little dude will be?!!?
I think the Manix 2 would probably be one of the best models for 15v. I already have one in cruwear so I went with the para 3 g10 for 15v. I have neither a para 3 or a knife in 15v so it worked out.
Wait til you see how easy it polishes up. I’m surprised you find the Para 3 slicier than a Sage 5. Being that the Para is 3.7mm blade stock and the Sage is 3.0mm. I always found the Para 3 to be too thick and stubby for its length. Very blade heavy. Did you find the BTE thickness much different between them?
Thank you for the great review video. Any quick comparison thoughts of 15v to s90v? Having trouble sourcing 15v in the blades/grinds I like. But they seem somewhat in the same realm
S90V maybe 500 cuts on a good day by Pete. 15V made 2000 cuts. His loss of edge is when an edge does a little catch of a rough part in a paper cut. REX 121 made 2500 cuts. And he only puts a 17 degree edge on it. I find the 15V and the REX 121 become lasers with a 13 degree polished edge. S110V will make 690 cuts and I have used that on a Native 5 for one year without sharpening, just stropping. REX 45 was even better in my use. I did get a few nicks in the S110V that you could feel with a fingernail test. But then I do very hard use including gasket scraping on engine surfaces both aluminum and cast iron.
I think they're going to be close, with 15v winning edge retention by a bit. s90v is much more stain resistant being martensitic stainless. I think 15v has slightly higher toughness, and will sharpen up easier.
It still hasn’t needed sharpening, right? Cool! Spyderco even does pretty well with lesser steals. Not that they’re not still good. You should go ahead and opt-in on the ads. I’d sit through a bit, so you can get a little back.
The Spyderco 15V models are also available in the EU, but it often takes a little longer for dealers to have them available. There are various methods for centering Spyderco knives and there are numerous videos on RUclips.
s110v has low toughness and the edge is much more prone to chipping, plus it's difficult to sharpen. I would pick magnacut or s90v for stainless para3.
@ just seems right up your alley with your appreciation for the native 5 and traditional lock backs. I hope you get one in. If I hit the lotto I’ll send you one lol. I’ve seen a couple of videos on RUclips showing the HRC on the crucarta cruwear healthily above 63. I’ve also heard it referenced in a few other videos of people talking about cruwear from older sprints mentioning “it’s good but not crucarta good.” Would love to hear your thoughts having more connections in the knife community and putting it through a month of use/sharpening. Just got the Manix 2 crucarta this weekend and it’s my first non-stainless experience. I went safe being cruwear is one of the most stainless non-stainless steel. If it wasn’t for your videos putting 15V/REX121/K390/etc… through processing the raw dog food/produce farm work I would be much more hesitant to use this thing than I already am. It’s funny because I was getting bored of my stainless knives not showing wear & tear & use and that’s part of the reason I finally decided to pull the trigger on a non-stainless. It’s just so engrained in me that rust is the devil. Slowly but surely “facing my demons” lol.
I got the Lightweight Para 3 in 15V. Great blade horrible handle and lock. My factory edge was at least a little sharp. First Spyderco with an edge that even cut. I was able to find some Chroma scales to make the handle useful. But the release and lack of the second washer makes it a knife that will go on eBay as soon as they come out with the Native 5 15V in G10. The REX 121 blade on the Sage is thinner than the 15V on the Para. My son has used the Manix 2 15V I gave him and it will last a year before it needs a sharpening on the Venev stones. He beats his knife even more than I beat mine. Pete did decently sharpened REX 121, 15V, and Maxamet. Maxamet made 1050 cuts. 15V made 2000 cuts, and REX 121 made 2500 cuts. He uses a catch on a piece of paper as his wear point test.
I find it hard to believe this was your first spyderco with a cutting edge. Their factory edges (even the seconds) are pretty decent for the money and volume. While most Para 3 scales will fit the LW, you do need extra hardware as the LW come with only one washer. It's well documented online.
I got this two weeks ago and I gotta say it's one tuff blade and it's been my only edc since because I wanna see also how long the edge will hold up and so far it's great.
Erica may i have request to show us the stroping results before your shareping protocol? Just curious if u can bring shaving sharp on the whole lenght of the blade. Very good video,i like these reviews :D
It's not a problem with 15V and as long as the cutting edge isn't damaged, the sharpness can be maintained for months with honing and stropping without a complete sharpening. The cutting edge of Spyderco is usually relatively good, but with every new knife I do an edge regrinding or an edge reprofiling to ensure that the cutting edge is very good. I think 15V feels quite similar to K390, just with a better edge retention.
Erica, Love your vids. I was hoping that you could help me rediscover a knife channel that I used to watch pre-covid. It was a man and wife (girlfriend?) who did knife reviews together and usually did a lot of joking and teasing each other. Thanks

Just got Rex121 last week, not concerned about sharpening it, since I have good cbn stones. I have to think 15V will be my next new steel, just which knife to get it in.....
@@LiquidRetro lots of options!
I'm very impressed with mine! I've had it now for 2 weeks?
@@mattconklin4026 yay! Love hearing that!
@@mattsweet7918 I’m glad you enjoyed it. Thanks so much for watching!
I use my Rex 121 sage 5 for my leather work, it’s a laser beam! I also use that same tokanol gum, it’s great.
@@SuitAndTieGuy88 it’s awesome stuff!
Great video, really enjoyed it. I'm really enjoying my para 3 lightweight. I've used it heavily in the last month and it's still blazing through boxes and hard plastic tubing. What stones will you use to sharpen it?

I have been looking forward to this review! (posted before I actually watch)
Hey pal!!❤😊
Glad you enjoyed it so much. But the best 15V is the Shaman. 😀
@@barboki way too large for me!
I favor any Spyder with a spear point. Native LW, Shaman, etc.
Nice!🎉🎉
Very good

When you said trachea, I turned my head and thought did she just say...? Yep. 😂
I sure did!
Wonderful update Erika! Stay sharp.

Picked up the LW when it dropped and REC had the g10 available so I picked it up. Stupid sharp. I think I’ll pick up the g10 native even though I’m not a fan of the back lock. Microjimbo? No question. Imagine how slicey that little dude will be?!!?
Yay!!!🎉🎉🎉
Native 5's are coming in 15v!
@@travisgoodfella yes I mentioned that in the video actually🤜🏼
I think the Manix 2 would probably be one of the best models for 15v. I already have one in cruwear so I went with the para 3 g10 for 15v. I have neither a para 3 or a knife in 15v so it worked out.
There ya go!🎉🎉🎉
Looks like a guy needs to finally get a Para 3 with 15V.
Yesss ole son!!😂🎉
Redundant vs. K390 in a similar model?
What?
For me, the 15V feels like it has characteristics in common with K390, you could describe it as K390 with a higher edge retention.
@@REAPER-1xxx no. Not much different. Sage BTE: 15thou
Para 3 BTE: 19thou
Para is a few thicker, but for some reason feels slicier to me!
Wow what a winner ! Have a good one buddy
@@snowtiger44 you too pal!!!
@@ericasedc thank you 🙏🏻 when do we get another zip and flip video 🤣
@ I’ll see if I can asap!
Thank you for the great review video. Any quick comparison thoughts of 15v to s90v? Having trouble sourcing 15v in the blades/grinds I like. But they seem somewhat in the same realm
Can’t say- haven’t experienced enough S90V yet !
@@geraldkoth654 Interesting, I've watched other testing where the performance results are much closer.
@@rob10ring I have a sharpening video uploading at 4pm!
You sold me. Excited for the g10 release coming up and I'll be ordering.
I've seen it released online at a few sites. DLT Trading and Blade HQ?
They are available. One should be in my mailbox tomorrow from knifecenter.
@rudyborg9554 thanks, I'm in canada and releases are usually a bit behind you guys. Cheers though!
Please let me know if you get one! 🎉
I'm holding out for the 15V manix 2 if I can.
No 15v for the EU 😢
I just bought a Para 3 lightweight salt 🧂 I'm so frustrated about the blade is not centered. What's an easy fix?
Some are just like that. Look up remedy videos🥰🥰
The Spyderco 15V models are also available in the EU, but it often takes a little longer for dealers to have them available.
There are various methods for centering Spyderco knives and there are numerous videos on RUclips.
Do you prefer 15v or s45v?
I don’t answer that. I’m sorry!
Just got mine about a week ago. I've had like 5 LWs lol but there is something about this one!!
@@JoshsWayOfLife right? It’s SO good!!!!!
@ericasedc Soooo good I didn't know it released until I saw your videos. Thank you!
@ oh awesome! Really glad I helped with the purchase! Yay!🥰
Looking to hold an edge and need high rust resistance. Would para 3 s110v be a good choice? Thanks in advance!
Sure!
s110v has low toughness and the edge is much more prone to chipping, plus it's difficult to sharpen. I would pick magnacut or s90v for stainless para3.
Curious if you plan on getting a native 5 crucarta?
@@Passively-Prepared I won’t be buying one- I don’t buy any of the knives. If one comes in though I’d totally review it!!
@ I’m proud of you!
Thanks for watching!🎉
I find it hard to believe this was your first spyderco with a cutting edge. Their factory edges (even the seconds) are pretty decent for the money and volume. While most Para 3 scales will fit the LW, you do need extra hardware as the LW come with only one washer. It's well documented online.
Think I'll hold out for 20V. Maybe 25V.
@@robertbarker5802 what about mom’sV?!🤣🤣🤣🤣
@ericasedc That's got to be 100V.
I got this two weeks ago and I gotta say it's one tuff blade and it's been my only edc since because I wanna see also how long the edge will hold up and so far it's great.
Love hearing that!
What video was it that you were talking about your pants and you only was them once a week ?

Erica may i have request to show us the stroping results before your shareping protocol? Just curious if u can bring shaving sharp on the whole lenght of the blade. Very good video,i like these reviews :D
Yes I think last time you asked that I said I may try😊
It's not a problem with 15V and as long as the cutting edge isn't damaged, the sharpness can be maintained for months with honing and stropping without a complete sharpening. The cutting edge of Spyderco is usually relatively good, but with every new knife I do an edge regrinding or an edge reprofiling to ensure that the cutting edge is very good. I think 15V feels quite similar to K390, just with a better edge retention.
Another purchase, it´s your fault. Just picked up a Mule Team in 15v.
YESSS BLAME MEEE

I have the same knife except for the G-10 version and it's a great knife. My family has gotten upset with me because they said I care more about Spyderco's new product line than spending time with them. They're not wrong, but I don't see why it's big deal either.
