Can anyone actually imagine Simon breaking something out of anger? I feel he would be weirdly polite about it.
“Just to demonstrate how incredibly upset I am, I’m going to break this glass!”
*smash
“There! Now please don’t clean that up, I’ll take care of it as soon as things have cooled down.”
Hed scream, throw something, then stop and go "Oh dear i think i smashed it"
“I apologize, mate, I accidentally broke a glass because I got super passionate and irate about something. I bandaged up my hand, when it hurts a bit less, I’ll clean it up. No, it’s fine, I’m fine, it’s just a couple cuts, and the glass is in large pieces mostly, I’ve dealt with that. I’ll deal with the dust in a bit, once I can hold a dust pan better.”
Yeah then apologise and help to clean in up.
Breaking something out of anger by mistake? Yes.
Throwing something during an argument? No.
Shout out to Callum for taking us on a roller coaster of emotions this episode. Well done!

Simon, PLEASE make a channel where you’re drinking alcoholic beverages while reading a script! Business Blaze 2.0? It sounds highly entertaining.
No, it should be called "Whistler Wrants". I might even become a patron for that.

Just cut out all the rambles and make it it's own show! I dig it
this is actually a logic i use for tv shows. "this is not the solution, there's still 20 minutes to go"
It’s a solid technique for sure. I learned to be overly critical and cynical from this podcast (and others like it) and CinemaSins.
This is heartbreaking. My brother was best friends with Ray I was about 10. And we all think it was JR and to this day I believe this is the only murder that ever occurred in our small town. I hate that it was never solved and moreso that he brainwashed her children. Thank you for bringing light to this cold case
They must be in denial. It seems like all societies put parents on a pedestal: that your life is in order and is more respectable if you have a good relationship with them, especially with biological parents. I am positing that that is why most people try so hard to- and sacrifice a lot to- maintain a good relationship with their parents, at least performatively. I am guessing it must be a lot easier to maintain a good relationship with the family one grew up with than accepting that one's loved ones are monsters and what that would mean to cut oneself off from their support and the benefits given from those relationships, than start a renewed- possibly awkward, non-intimate from years of separation and with less economic benefits- relationship with estranged family. One probably wouldn't want to be categorised as the one who's father/aunt/etc murdered their own mother in cold blood, either. I imagine that must be an awkward/embarassing/pitying title to have based on social norms and taboos.
@@elisabethnordin I think you've made some really good points here. I'm reminded of an interview I saw on the 60 Minutes Australia RUclips channel: a young woman who's father was accused of her mother's murder (he even confessed, and then told the daughter that he didn't do it but was confessing anyway?). I can't remember the exact details but the murder was committed in the house within a small window of time, with no one else entering or leaving the house besides the daughter, who returned to find her mother missing and her father behaving strangely. This poor girl still believes her father, despite overwhelming evidence that he killed his wife over money and dumped her body, in addition to his confession, and I think its partially down to the fact that she's already lost her mother - accepting that her father did this would mean losing him too, in a way. Perhaps its just too painful? It boggled my mind but I think she was clearly in denial, she seemed to know how ludicrous his story was.
@@elisabethnordin I agree.I used to know a girl whose parents were alcoholics and she didnt want anything to do with them. She told me a lot of people would be shocked by her snubbing of them because "how can you never talk to your parents " but i just thought "fair enough" .
@@Gos1234567 I wonder if, in the case of a one-off murder, that would be easier to pretend it didn’t happen, because in many ways the accused’s whole behavior isn’t much changed, they go back to the veneer and seem normal, whereas alcoholism is a daily behavioral issue causing physical, mental and emotional strain for those relationships .
How old were each of the children if you don't mind my asking
“No body, no crime” isn’t as simple as it sounds. Some organ (even just cells) of the victim must be found that they couldn’t live without; ie, heart, brain, etc. If enough has been spilled, blood counts as an invaluable bodily organ. Sounds like a sizable amount of blood was lost. That’s enough to get a trial going.
There’s a Forensic Files where they charge murder by pouring blood into a piece of carpet to match the crime scene puddle. They achieve the same-sized puddle after pouring a quart.
As I understand it, the body in this phrase refers to the body of evidence. It means there must be sufficient evidence the crime actually occurred and has no relation to bodies or body parts at all. Iirc this is explained in another video on this channel, a quick google indeed confirms this ;)
@@ricardobimblesticks1489 Right, “corpus delicti” doesn’t refer to merely a human dead body-but body of evidence like you said. I don’t know anything about Texas law, however!
@@grimtt I'd say they definitely had enough evidence on this one. Unfortunately it was also around Christmas time, the investigators didn't want to drop their holiday and the two precincts were way too busy squabbling over jurisdiction to actually solve the thing regardless. A complete moron and manipulative bitch JR Vaughan is, but leaving the car in a separate jurisdiction from the one in which he actually committed the crime was a surprisingly smart move for him.
@@kitalalaris I'm not sure that was a conscious move tbh. At least it didn't start off that way. Patty's boss is the one that spotted it, where it was on the way to her work. I think maybe whoever staged it was trying to imply she was going there. Allegedly
No Body No Crime is my favourite Bob Marley song.
Mine too. The song starts "No woman no cry". The murder happens in the second verse.
Also a lovely Taylor swift song too
@@pphillips21 Oh I just heard that, yeah, that's a great song by her.

Considering Danny is still left in his basement, yes Simon, you're a bad friend.
No. They're not friends. It's an employer-employee relationship xD
@@GodlikeIridium master, slave relationship you mean. Allegedly. Employee employer implies Danny is paid okish 🤣🤣🤣 all he gets his magic spoon

ETA will lead the revolution of proletarians!
Every time you mentioned JR and this being in Texas my mind went straight to the TV show Dallas. For April Fool's Day you should do a podcast on who killed JR.
I'd LOVE THAT!!!😂😂😂
When I worked as a claims adjuster, I frequently had to contact police departments across the country. I always dreaded having to call anywhere in Texas, Mississippi, and Louisiana, because most of the time the way the name was written was NOT how it was pronounced. I give you "Bexar County" in Texas, pronounced "Bear". Missouri has plenty of towns like that, too. Just a couple for your amusement: "Versailles" pronounced "Ver-sayles" and "Peru" pronounced "Pee-roo." Dear God.
Texan & we also just pronounce things oddly...Bogota -Buh Go ta, Anahuac - Ana wack, Palestine- Pal est een, Nacogdoches - nak ah doh chiss, Waxahachie Wahks a hatch ee

Yes, Simon,, you TOTALLY NEED TO do a podcast/channel called "casual vigilante" and have stories of vigilantes. The good, the evil, the inept, the masterful, etc etc etc.
The Dexter Files.
The casual Batman, where he dresses up as the caped crusader and dramatically reads off stories of vigilantes. Drunkeness optional
Please do this whilst drinking :)
A drinking Simon would be a brilliant laugh. The rants could be epic!
How do we know he isn’t drinking?
Simon: I'm far too young to have been divorced.
Me: I was divorced at 29 (now 31) 😅
Divorced at 28 here :) (now 32)

Loving this so far. It's nice to see/hear you go off script and joke around. I like these kinds of stories, but I don't always need them to drip with a tense atmosphere so this is perfect for me.
Last time I was this early, Danny was out of the basement
The John Malkovich clips slayed me!🤣😂🤣
When John Malkovich says: I dont know anything about that girl.
I think he's lying. I always find that john guy suspicious.
This is so dreadfully sad, it had me in tears and covered in goosebumps at the end. I can’t imagine what her family is going through. I hope they find her and her family can lay her to rest.
When it comes to helping a friend hide a body, I suppose it'd depend on *whose* body needs hiding.
And I hope Patty's body is found soon.
When you know you know.
Finally my favourite genre of true crime by my favourite RUclipsr
I used to live in Texas and it was always said that if there was ever a reserection the desert would walk, meaning there are a lot of missing people buried in the desert of Texas... love this new channel of yours... I'm binge watching it.. hugs Lynn Weasenforth 💯💜💛💙🌹☮️😘 stay safe from the pandemic madness we are all going through
Charity livestream with lots of wine-fueled tangents. No edits, just multiple glorious hours of Simon reading one line of a script, ranting about half a dozen tangentially related things for twenty minutes at a stretch, and drinking enough wine to keep feeling elegant. I think I might watch the heck out of that.
It's amazing just how many of these cases are about 'deeply religious' families. With a controlling patriarch who probably uses the bible, with encouragement from some fundamentalist, male pastor, to justify his horribleness.
The Bible is a terrible guide to how to be a good parent. It uses Bronze Age techniques to threaten your children with fire and brimstone if they step out of line, and justify beating your kids.
Careful...your bigot is showing
🙄
Religion BAD, Reeeeee.
I love that this is so conversational and improvised! I love a few of your channels but I'm obviously a Business Blaze fangirl lol. I'm not usually a true crimes person very much (maybe a little now and then) but I enjoy any content that you're candidly commenting on!
Also, as someone from Colorado, I can tell ya that people both near and far haven't gotten sick of the JonBenet story yet. People I talk to from other places ask about Columbine and other topics a bit more, but JonBenet does get brought up regularly. I bet if you did an episode about her case, it would do really well!
Amazing that the neighbor's initials are the same as on the jump suit but she still feels comfortable heckling the police...
I was writing this as a standalone comment when I saw yours: Alright, so I am a year late to the comments, however, it seems so iffy to me, that the woman that was unhappy about the digging in the backyard, Joanne Mollenkopf, just happens to share the initial JM that were embroidered on the jumpsuit found in the car. Maybe it was in her garden, that the equipment was originally moved around that Christmas? Allegedly.. of course.
I really wonder what Patty’s kids think at this point, he couldn’t hide them from the rumors for the rest of their lives.
Ty fact boi for another video, will watch now
Sounds like Danny gets a basement friend
The way you wrapped this up was very respectful and warm. Good on you, Callum. 👍
"As long as nobody gets naked, we're not breaking any laws!"

He cant keep getting away with it
That's bureaucracy for you, even though they literally found her blood all over his house, one dumb technicality in the law means he goes free. It really makes you want to beat your head against the wall with how frustrating it is
You'd think that Texas, the execution capital of the United States, would be a place in which law enforcement would doggedly investigate every case, whatever the circumstances, and pursue murder charges as long as they can prove someone had died. But in this case, they seemed to be more concerned with giving JR the benefit of the doubt than granting justice for Patty.
Something stinks.
@@miaomiaochan Maybe it has something to do with the victim being a woman who cheated and the social stigma that still surrounds that in backward areas
More like too concerned about the rights of the accused. Innocent till proven guilty is great, but it shouldn’t interfere in an investigation.
It's cases like this where I would condone vigilantes. The state failed at bringing justice despite proof beyond a reasonable doubt. I would want someone to kidnap him and his accomplice and torture a confession out of them.
Bexar County is pronounced “bear” for anyone wondering

Thank you simeon, I absolutely love pretty much all of your channels. This is like a glorious mix of business blaze and true crime thrillers. Well done sir.
YES! I was so scared I would never get an “ALLEGEDLY” on this channel. Also I am a Texan born and bred and just have to say to all the jokes...accurate.
I hope you keep alternating the scripts between Callum and Danny, because both are great! I obviously love Danny's style of writing because I know (and love) him from Business Blaze, but Callum is really good too! So if possible please alternate between scripts from both
when the choice is between being a good friend or being a good person, the latter is the only answer. i might not have many friends myself due to this philosophy, but i'd never change it.
a good friend doesn’t ask you to be a bad person. they find a bad person and become friends with them.

As a JR, you got no idea how many times I jumped hearing Simon yell my name.
Ahh, reminds me of a saying we had in high school back in the 90s...
"A friend will help you move. A good friend will help you move a body. A GREAT friend will help you move a cop's body. We're all great friends."
Man this was depressing. Hate when cases go unsolved like this
He hid the body incredibly well suggesting he had planned the murder.

Been listening to this on Spotify as soon as I heard about it. Really loving it Simon! Thanks!
When you say you are on the "same page" with someone other then Danny, it makes it feel wrong :/

@@jimcappa6815 I heard that too, it was very disturbing. To know that Danny is stuck in a basement and can't even get the respect he deserves..... It hurts me to the core. Callum seems to be freaking amazing as well, no offense mate.
It's only a matter of time before Callum joins Danny and Sam in the basement. That must be one big radiator if all 3 of them end up chained to it.

Simon should do one about himself for murdering poor Danny's dreams and keeping him locked in the basement. Come to think of it...I haven't seen ETA in a long time! Either 5g made him off himself, oooorrrrr Simon killed him!! I think it's the latter!

You keep reminding us that lie detector tests don't stand up in court, and yes that is true - but the mere act of taking one from the police's point of view is one of a placebo/nocebo effect.
When a guilty person takes one they probably display certain characteristics that they would otherwise not under simple questioning. It's a ruse that can sometimes show people's weaknesses or over the top strengths.
Just see it as when a police car passes you on the street you automatically look at your speed and mirrors to calm yourself that they're not after you. I don't drive but my mates go all ultra-perfect driver when they see the police. Twats, LOL.
