    Ungewöhnliche Interpretation der Polonaise No. 1, sehr gesetzt, durchgeistigt, habe ich nie so gehört, wirkt ein klein wenig zu kontrolliert auf mich. Ein fehlerhafter Akkord in dem Stück macht diesem jedoch keinen Abbruch... Der Rest des Programms - phänomenal! (Auch wenn in einigen Programmen diverser Veranstalter bei der letzten Zugabe Bach/ Busoni steht - meines Erachtens ist es die Kempff-Version.) Wundervoll! Sokolov ist mein favorisierter Pianisten, weil er Künstler, Zauberer ist, mit gereifter Intelligenz, menschlicher Wärme, Würde, Passion und Authentizität/ Ehrlichkeit. Alles andere als ein manieristischer Virtuose, wie es so viele gibt.... Danke für das Foto in W. :-) Ich denke noch tagelang daran. Und die Erinnerung wird bleiben, solange ich lebe.

    Isn’t he just incredible: such precision without distracting from the impact of the composition itself; very few people can do this. He could be the greatest pianist I’ve ever heard, or at least as good as the best. My favorite choice evolved over years, but I ended up staying with Dinu Lipatti as my reference for perfection.

    • @user-bc9mn7gq2c
      @user-bc9mn7gq2c Год назад

      Yes but did Lipatti make Couperin and Byrd speak on the modern piano?

  • @Davidfooterman
    @Davidfooterman Год назад

    There used to be a fascinating recording of Rachmaninov’s own interpretation. He had quite good technique, but what really stood out was how his huge hands could span his huge chords and still have the freedom in individual fingers to highlight within them the notes of his choice. Those highlighted choices were often not the ones that today’s greatest pianists would expect him to convey! Of course, in his mind, he probably hears multiple versions of his own pieces.

  • @Davidfooterman
    @Davidfooterman Год назад

    And, like Lipatti, he can play any composer as well as any pianist known to specialize in the same. I have my favorite players of particular styles, but only very few generalists who can do it all. If there were more Sokolov recordings across the whole spectrum of compositions, I think he would be at the top with just one or two other geniuses!

    Откуда композиторы черпают своё вдохновение?! Безусловно из жизни, имея особо чувствительное сердце: на уровне интуиции, воспринимая всё, что зависает в пространстве времени, и неподвластно для интеллектуального осмысления: слушая высокопарящие звуки, мы улетаем в мир непередаваемых чувств и благодарны Богу за умение ощущать и переживать эту многогранную жизнь !!! Да. Правление Злого не принесло людям ожидаемого счастья...Ибо написано:" Не во власти человека его путь, не может идущий направлять свои шаги"(Иеремия 10:23 ). И в произведениях великих мастеров так ярко присутствует этот вечный вопрос : В чём смысл жизни человеческой?! А вот в чем:" Блаженны непорочные в пути, ходящие в законе Господнем. Блаженны хранящие откровения Его, всем сердцем ищущие Его. Они не делают беззакония, ходят путями Его. Ты заповедал повеления Твои хранить твердо...Всем сердцем моим ищу Тебя; не дай мне уклониться от заповедей Твоих. В сердце моём сокрыл я слово Твоё, чтобы не грешить пред Тобою. Благословен Ты, Господи! Научи меня уставам Твоим...О заповедях Твоих размышляю и взираю на пути Твои. Уставами Твоими утешаюсь, не забываю слова Твоего. Яви милость рабу Твоему, и буду жить и хранить слово Твоё. Открой очи мои, и увижу чудеса закона Твоего...
    Удали от меня путь лжи, и закон Твой даруй мне...Вразуми меня, и буду соблюдать закон Твой и хранить его всем сердцем..."( Псалом 118: 1-176)).

    Unfortunately he refuses to play in the United Kingdom, where I live, a nation that has gone literally to the dogs in the last 5 years. I think he was refused entry once at Heathrow Airport due to some minor Visa issue and he vowed never to return. Good for him, not so good for the rest of us. I did see him in Gstaad a few years ago. Not the overwhelming or coruscating experience of a recital by ABM or Richter, but the best we have before us today. personally I am not a fan of pianists who play endless encores, I always think it detracts from the main event, but that is a small gripe, and one does not want to be churlish.

      @@vincent-ataramaniko Richter, and especially ABM, created an astonishing electricity in the anticipation of their recitals beforehand, and of course during the recital itself. At one ABM recital I saw Kissin, Pogorelich and Brendel along with probably every other lesser known pianist within a 250 mile radius with a night off in the audience, all just all wondering how does he do it. At his London recitals he discovered that instead of approaching the stage from the wings, there was a trap door in the floor of the platform, and so one would be sitting there awaiting his arrival and he would appear like a Mephistophelian ghost from beneath the stage and it created such a dramatic effect as to completely transfix the audience, and that before he played a single note, such was his charisma.
      The famous Richter recital from the Barbican hall in 1989 was also spectacular because Richter was in a foul mood and this heightened the intensity of his playing to an extraordinary level. That recital can be viewed on RUclips.

    Can someone explain what makes this artist so great in your opinion? I say this as a fellow musician and pianist but have failed to be enamored by Sokolov. Regardless of the instrument or my initial impressions, always try to understand performers until that AHA moment happens where you understand the depth of their artistry and can articulate what makes them unique or likeable. I know these are merely opinions but this to me is what makes art great, being able to seek that which you do not understand. THANK YOU in advance.

      I had the good fortune of hearing Sokolov perform live, yesterday. The technical prowess is ideally counterbalanced by expressivity. I don't feel that this is his best performance, as it is comparatively heavy-handed. I had never heard a musician do such justice in graded amplitude to a nearly inimaginable range of dynamics, to supple and yet rigorous tempos, and to multiple melodic lines all at once. His percussive younger style has mellowed and matured over the last 50+ years. He communes with the composer and the listener at once. It was an extraordinary experience of music in the abstract ideal and yet full of humanity.

    Sokolov does seem to have an adoring fan base, who almost seem to see him as a god, which he is not. Yes he can be marvellous, but here the Chopin Polonaises are pounded out at slow tempi, with no emotional engagement. To hear what the great F sharp minor can sound like try Rubinstein live in Moscow in October 1964. Here there is rubato, tempo, dynamic and tonal variation, rhythmic flexibility, power, the ability to sing and create moments of breath-taking beauty and to make it sound as though he is improvising.

    Did you know for a brief period of time Sokolov changed his name to Greffory because he realized he played pieces in the key of F better. The two F's represent F major and F minor. He realized he was better at g minor and changed his name back

    very russian time-keeping, how refreshing compared to the melodrama of the current generation (nothing wrong with that either)

    Sokolov is a highly gifted artist (and that's an understatement) but never forget these works were first played by guys who wrote them - Sokolov hasn't written anything. Nevertheless, he probably plays these things better than the composers themselves.

    Pity no video, just audio. Realise audio is the most important but you get so much of the occasion and the emotion as well through video. Thanks for capturing audio though, appreciated. I know Sokolov is extremely fastidious with choosing piano, tuning and sound etc prior to recital.

      Yes, I quite agree with you, he plays too heavily sometimes, and that makes him play slower.

    Concert grand piano tuning traditions vary. My usual complaint is at tuners who like to push the upper register of the concert grand, slightly increasing as they go up in the belief that they can get a crisper sound. There is no need to do that with a concert Steinway or Bosendorfer, or probably any of today’s concert grands; it’s just plain stupid, intellectually arrogant crap when you can have an inexpensive oscilloscope available to verify your work!

    Not very good recording; it has many clipping noises.
