Even if you spend decades on trying to recreate Xen exactly in minecraft, its impossible, all textures have been occupied for the other maps and the engine will definetly not support a huge mob like the final boss of Xen, and will also there would be not a way to make it playable with huge platforms to jump.

It's worth noting that if you ran this on a server paired with a small custom plugin, you could trigger a resource pack change whilst still connected silently to allow for even more customization.
Hell, you could take it a step further and add in all of the sounds from the game and implement many listeners to play the cooresponding sounds when you do certain actions (all the different weapons).
You could also import all the models as custom blocks and just keep swapping resource packs as needed.
Once they're downloaded, you don't need to redownload them until you switch servers.
And you can go all-out and make an NPC invisible and attach a client side entity with your custom model to it so it looks like the real model.
Good example that combines all of the above elements on a vanilla version of Minecraft:

Minecraft isn't retro style, it's just supposed to be block-based so that things can be built and broken.

While it struggles to capture the gameplay you've got to hand it to them for the map layout, it's an incredible recreation.

The hivehand bow and witch soldiers using medpacks on themselves and "grenades" are just incredible.

The map is huge,and well built.Still,a proper modpack should be added for the map,so all the enemies could be added,and so the scientists/guards/soldiers wouldn't be villagers-As well as weapons being weapons,not bows and arrrows.

Well to be honest with you, I didn't watch whole video and i skipped it from time to time instead but... the thing is I'm a big fan of Half-Life series and i know every single location of Half-Life 1 with detail and what can i say... Somebody or some group of people put an incredibly lot of effort to make this, and I must say it's amazing !! :) I was never a Minecraft fan but the way you use it to build up Black Mesa and everything around from HL universe is just amazing !! I left minecraft a long time ago due to its trash community. but this is really cool.
That's why the first advice you ever give when someone starts this game is "stick to Singleplayer and local servers". Making yourself dependent on some half-wit admin from across the world who can ban you at will is never worth the risk, and you can't really share your work either when it's on an online server.
The fact the hivehand manages to be the best weapon in this game (cause it’s ranged) says lots about minecraft modding

I hope you've imported the map model from Half Life and somehow converted it to work with Minecraft, right? As opposed to manually rebuilding every single part of it. I know that the models from HL 1 can be exported with ease, I've exported some but I don't know how "friendly" is the Minecraft engine.
