I have one of these, using it nearly every day for over 20 years. I found it at our local county dump. It was in the "reclaim" section, with the R-42 Reproducer. Complete, with service manual, replacement tubes. Even the FM section works ! However, I turned it on recently, and it seem to only to be working on a few bands. The face & top is rusty. With 33 caps, it would be a very time consuming radio to restore. Do you have any contacts that would consider undertaking a restoration task on this great radio ?
+Wilbur Snaffel You, my friend, have encountered a "once-in-a-lifetime" stroke of good luck! I have restored three of these, two for others and one "restified" (chromed chassis, engraved front panel, and so on) for my own use and to give my children something to fight over when I die. I can restore your radio, but, as they say, "If you have to ask..." ed[underscore]watts[at]verizon[dot]net
I have a hallicrafter shortwave radio. It is being repaired right now. The shortwave radio is from the late 1940s. Wish me luck!
I used to have the SX-43 long time ago,

Nice SX-42! One of my most favorite receivers!
The SX-42 is considered by many to have the best audio quality of all the vintage tube receivers made during that period.
Wow! What a beautiful SX-42. Thanks for sharing.

Classic radio, but you could have operated from the front, most of the time your hands obstruct the great view.
