Turning the face to the side gives more space to work with, and also helps to keeps dirt/dust/water out of your eyes and nose.

At about 4:15 when they are demonstrating a forward shoulder somersault, they start in a three point stance will their back foot up on the ball. They don't end the roll the same way. They end it with the top of their rear foot on the mat. How is this remotely acceptable?

voodoo820 yeah, that would properly hurt, being all out of position

voodoo820 you'd never get back into stance like that surely?

You cannot do a forward shoulder somersault since they are two different skills. You are correct, though, that the end must be on the ball of the foot, as well.

not an efficient way of falling. That's going to scrape your forearm upon impact. Better to fall on your hands cuz of physics

Better a scraped forearm than a busted wrist.
