    In a pub in Germany, I met this 55 year old Caribbean man at the bar table. I got drunk and began to talk cricket with him and swore that Curtly Ambrose was the greatest ever fast bowler produced by West Indies. He was quietly sitting there the whole time listening to me with a simple smile on his face. Finally when he got up to leave, he turned around and said "True, kid! Ambrose was great. But guess who was even greater.. Malcolm Marshall".. paid for us both and left... I could only wonder..

    • @kieronjohnson8834
      @kieronjohnson8834 4 года назад +4

      Marshall just edges it for me, I think he had a little more guile and variety. But there are times when I think Ambrose is unplayable. Top 2 in my book. The only two guys capable of wearing 3 gold chains without being laughed at. The Ambrose stare wins hands down, though.

      @Jayakanth
      There isn't much in between three men and these three men are Marshall, Ambrose and Garner. The question is which one goes in your world XI? Marshall may have the edge due to the fact he was a more than handy late order batsman with 10 test half centuries and 7 first class hundreds. But then you have Garner who was all but impossible to score off and could pull toe crunching yorkers out of his pocket with ease. And of course Ambrose - a younger Garner.
      Not easy.

      Mcgrath was more clinical and a miles better bowler than anderson who looked tame in non swinging conditions. Classifying him as a line/ length bowler is an oversimplification.

    Ambrose was the greatest tall (6'5 and above) fast bowler in test history. Garner just behind him. I rate the non test seamer Big Vince van der Bijl very highly with a fc career average of 16.5. He used to get steepling bounce,was super accurate and moved it both ways. McGrath in the top 5 of the tall brigade.Walsh , Bruce Reid when not injured..

    Don't get me wrong, Ambrose has magnificent statistics..... but I still don't think they do justice to the kind of bowler he was. He was a mean giant and gave that vibe of being someone who wanted to kill a batsman. Nasty work. His ability to get bounce and zip of a good length even on dead pitches coupled with a pinpoint accurate yorker zeroing in from 7 feet plus made him a batsman's nightmare. Typical West Indian off the feild though, always up for a good laugh and some fun 😊

      Ambrose went through entire spells where batsmen would score next to nothing and he'd beat the edge 90 percent of the time. He is the second greatest fast bowler of all time for me, after Marshall, and the greatest player between the late 80s to early 90s. Amazing amazing player
