FYI: the clothing of Yelan and the background music are inspired from Shanghai in the 1930s featured by strong western influences. Elements like casino, jazz music, and spy wars were all symbols for this city in the special era. The umbrella scene at 0:16 is so typical in Chinese spy war TV dramas these days!

The Jazz backgroud music gives Yelan the perfect "Femme Fatale" vibes from those old school Noir movies, which is exactly her style IMO, she's Mysterious, Intelligent,Smart, Dominating and Bewitching, a literal Femme Fatale type!

For me it's awful. With each new character and trailer for it, it becomes more and more visible how outdated the graphics in this game are. In addition, in each trailer the same scenario. A bit of chatter, then the character kills some enemies, and in the end some more self-satisfied chatter.
I can practically feel the elegance from this demo.

Yelan's a mix of a 1950's detective and a mafia boss.
She has that vibe that feels like she would make you an offer that's awfully convincing but you can't refuse.

OMG, this is perfect! The music, the staging, the colours. And her voice, the way she looks at 1:17 - and her stepping on treasure hoarder - she IS the mommy. I will rewatch this a lot for reasons
They really went in on that 80's vibe, specifically casinos. With her name card at the beginning, the jazz music, the dice on her animations, and the background when she's not going around strangling treasure hoarders. I'm getting the feeling that she's "the one in control/the one pulling the strings", with her burst and skill being, well, strings. Overall 10/10.

Got her by luck in 14 wishes, after I lost my 50/50 to Qiqi, and sorta built her today and I gotta say, she's incredible. Her damage is great even with the Stringless I'm using. In fact she's so good that I'm feeling bad for not pulling for her bow, now I have to search what 5 star bow would be good for her 🗿

Yelan's design is based on those casino ladies that used to appear in Hong Kong movies. So, they are definitely hammering in the theme.
I’m so in love with Yelan. She has this Roaring 20’s vibe that I never thought we’d see until Fontaine and yet she’s still seems so futuristic. She almost feels out of place in Liyue, but it’s that uniqueness that attracts me even more. This demo just shot my dedication to pulling her through the roof.
She's very much Liyue, in the sense that her entire character is obviously designed with the early 20th century Shanghai vibe in mind. But you're right, she probably doesn't remind you of in-game Liyue.

based off the gambling motif, western clothes and the aesthetic of this trailer i'd say she's inspired by Macau, a gambling city in China that was once a portuguese colony.

With the jazzy music and the city lights/casino backdrop, plus her kind of "modern" fashion sense, its like she was a 1980's mobster from Tokyo that got isekai'ed into the Genshin world.
Her design is inspired by the old Shanghai (1920-1945) when the city was highly influenced by the western world. The city is featured by ballrooms, casinos, and spy wars during that era. The umbrella scene at 0:16 is so typical in Chinese spy war TV dramas these days!

Imma be honest, after learning more about her, Yelan's flashy animations and the whole jazzy, casino-like theme with the dice and all doesn't seem to suit her much, imo.
I mean... first time I saw her, I thought she either follow the compulsive gambler trope or be related in a way to an actual casino. I still think it's a pretty cool theme, but it doesn't seem to resonate with her apparent personality and role in the story.

I went from being meh about her to wanting her signature weapon… I really didn’t need her since I use 1 pyro dps and 1 hydro dps so I thought Xingqiu was all I needed, but she’s so much stronger than I thought, and she’s so fun with her zoom skill too. When she reruns I’m definitely spending all my primos on her weapon
I love the music, it has this classy jazzy sound and yelan looks like the diva singing upstage, knowing how she's a gambler at casino, it's just perfect.
