This movie is the legit reason why I love Bette Midler so much. Also, I love Doug Jones as Billy Butcherson. He also played Abe Sapien in Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army.
Jones is a great monster actor. Gotta respect an actor who built a lot of the acting career around skillfully carry out a fantastic performance in heavy monster make up.
What a fun little film and a delightful reaction! Midler, Najimy and Parker were really terrific. The sequel is not as good, but the three sisters still got it. And Bette’s musical number may even be better in the sequel. But the rest is just okay.
A little fun fact about how Bette Midler got this role: Disney originally offered Midler the lead for Sister Act or she could have this role and her role in the film “For The Boys”. In the end, it was a win-win for both Midler and Whoopie Goldberg since Midler got both this cult classic that both children and adults love and an Oscar nomination for For The Boys (which she should have won) while Goldberg was able to get a comedy classic that everyone fell in love with as part of her film career.
Such great costumes for the sisters. Hilarious. Now of course, you need to treat yourselves to PRACTICAL MAGIC with the stunning Sandra and Nicole. Wonderful witchiness of a different variety 👻👻👻
I grow up watching this movie. It never gets old. So amazing. The new movie, 30 years later is so charming. You should check it out. Love watching you two. Thanks for the reaction. Love from Brazil. ❤
The box office bomb that became a cult classic! Originally, Steven Spielberg was going yo direct the film, but was too busy working on a little movie called JURASSIC PARK.
My children were ten years and younger when we first watched this movie. Even now they will be setting out to go somewhere and head out chanting “Amuck, Amuck, Amuck!”
I love this film! It's so good. This is embarrassing but when we were 18, coming back from the pub, drunk. me n my friends used to walk like they did, hunting for food 😂
I'm old enough to have had a crush on Bette Middler all my life. You should watch another great ensemble cast in the movie The First Wives Club, where Sarah Jessica Parker, and Bette Middler both have roles.
Gary Marshall and Penny Marshall were also together in a League of their Own but in a change of positions she directed while Gary was one of the actors.
I was 4 when this came out. This is the one movie I've watched the most probably a couple hundred times, I can quote it almost line for line. There's something about it that makes me feel whole and I never get sick of it. I'd say it's my #1 favorite movie of all time. ❤❤❤
I was born the same year as this movie came out, so I grew up watching Hocus Pocus and Nightmare Before Christmas every year several times a year lol 😂❤
I grew up on this movie and even had it on when celebrariting my birthday once haha. Love all the actors here and if you have seen the original NCIS then the actor of Binx is in fact the actor of Mcgee which is interesting really...he was a kid here. The second one was good but nothing like the original though still fun none the less. Bette singing in this one was just amazing and this was in fact the first time I ever saw any of these actors in anything and yes that includes Bette herself as well though I knew her songs of course. Grate reaction guys and glad you liked this one.
I also highly recommend 'The Witches' 1990 if you have not seen it. Our family watches 'Hocus Pocus' every Halloween but also 'Nightmare Before Christmas' and 'The Witches' (w/Angelica Huston, who plays Morticia on 'The Addams Family' films). Our kids know and can follow along with the dialog of these films. We also rotate in 'Beetlejuice' if we need more spookiness...👀 lol!
Loved "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" reference! Can't believe I haven't seen anybody react to that one. Can't say I fell in love with Sarah Jessica Parker from this film (more like her role in "Honeymoon in Vegas"). In this movie, I fell for Vinessa Shaw. And yes, the yabbos were part of the reason.
I think it wasn't until a rewatch years later that I saw the appeal in Vinessa Shaw. (Like at some point after Corky Romano came out. Liked her in that and then realized that she had been in this movie as well.) I'm around the same age as Thora Birch so I was around the same age as her character when I first saw the movie. Hmmm... I don't remember which order I saw various movies from that time and when the crushes started but for me at that age it was all about Christina Ricci and Thora Birch. There was this movie for Thora, Addams Family and Casper for Christina, and Now and Then for both of them (plus the other two stars alongside them as well). Hmmm... I didn't see it until many years after all of those movies (even though it came out around the same time as them) but if there was a time when I had a crush on Sarah Jessica Parker it was when I watched L.A. Story. (Despite the shallow valley girl act and the really obnoxious name that her character in that one had. There was just something special about her in that movie.) I'm sure I had probably seen her before that in Flight of the Navigator, but didn't really register her character in it at the time. (skimming Sarah's imdb page) Oh yeah! How could I forget Ed Wood? Liked her in that. Then she was in Mars Attacks as well. Another good one for her.
Has anyone noticed in the beginning just before the hanging the parents as the witches about thier son zackery/thackery but they dont ask for their daughter Emily 😂😂😂😂
My favorite movie: I was 8 when it came out. Same age as Dani. Nothing tops this film for me. Also, just an fyi, Samhain isn't pronounced the way it looks. It's pronounced like "Saa-wen".
The gross scene of Billy cutting his mouth open and the moths flying out was done with practical effects - meaning Doug Jones actually had to have the moths inside his mouth for them to fly out 🤢🤢🤢. Doug Jones is fantastic in EVERY single role!!!
I love you both so much. Your reactions make me smile, so I joined your Patreon today. So cool to see you sharing movies like this. Btw, it's sah wayne, not sam hayne. :)
In my humble opinion, Hocus Pocus is the best comedy ever. I know it from top to bottom.....I think I've watched it too much........So, we will brew the potion and suck the lives out of little children!!! It's a pity Roxette's song Almost Unreal was replaced on the soundtrack.
From a different perspective, this "Disney movie" is high camp. And has a massive LGBTQIA+ following. I've seen drag shows where 3 queens are dressed as the Sanderson Sisters lip synching to "I Put A Spell On You". Also on Halloween night I was at a Gay bar and they were showing this movie on their big screen. And everyone in the bar was doing quotes back at the movie ala "The Rocky Horror Picture Show". Just interesting the impact film has on different communities whether intended or otherwise.
Is that why the sequel has a group in drag in that one part? That group seemed so random and out of nowhere, in my opinion, when I saw it. Didn't know / couldn't have known that the movie had a cult following in that community. EDIT: Wait, is it because of Bette Midler being in it? Didn't she have a huge gay following for whatever reason? Thought I heard that at some point.
@@MuljoStpho yeah, she still have a cult following. Of a certain age. But with the 2 "Hocus Pocus" films Winnie Sanderson is so over the top, she's garnered a younger fan base. Male and female.
Sarah Jessica Parker was certainly fun but the whole “let me play with him” thing seems to get overlooked for how disturbing it really is. Even if I was the right orientation I don’t think I’d be attracted to that! Though I darkly enjoy how scary it makes her despite her goofiness. She was hilarious in the recent one as well. The movie wasn’t as good but the witches were still themselves.
I'm almost 37 and grew up with this movie. It's been a Halloween staple since 1993.
I'm only almost 31 and same here 😂❤

Bette Midler suggestion: outrageous fortune
He was also the fish man in Shape of Water and multiple roles in Pan's Labyrinth

In regards to the cat, I believe this movie came first and the animatronic was reused on Sabrina. So technically, its the same cat.
Such great costumes for the sisters. Hilarious. Now of course, you need to treat yourselves to PRACTICAL MAGIC with the stunning Sandra and Nicole. Wonderful witchiness of a different variety 👻👻👻

Special Agent Timothy McGee from "NCIS" is in this!
Margarine was invented in 1869.
When I was a kid I had a huge crush on Thackery, Max and Jay. Lol.
Same, exact same. 🤣
It is crazy that I am just a few months younger than this movie I am a proud 1993 kid! I love this movie so damn much and the cast is perfect
Nothing wrong with being a product of the 1990's! :).
My children were ten years and younger when we first watched this movie. Even now they will be setting out to go somewhere and head out chanting “Amuck, Amuck, Amuck!”
😅
I watched this movie for the first time as a teenager. I loved it! I watch this every October. It’s a must now. Fun and just a classic
A young Tim Mcgee from NCIS never noticed till i watched NCIS lol
This movie came first but the animatronic for Binx was reused in Sabrina which came out in 1996.
Allison's house is the Sorority house that Cici (Sarah Michelle Gellar) is killed at in Scream 2 the inside at least where the staircase is

When I was little and for many years my brothers and I would watch this when we went to our Grandma's.
I love this film! It's so good. This is embarrassing but when we were 18, coming back from the pub, drunk. me n my friends used to walk like they did, hunting for food 😂
😅
Omg that's amazing! Lol I definitely did that walk with my friend when I was drinking 😂
That's great that we weren't the only ones doing it lol we looked like a right bunch of idiots 🤣 but It had to be done 🤣
One of the little girls, dressed as a witch that took the brooms, is Bette Midler’s daughter Sophie. Looks just like her.
The dead guy reminds me of that Michael Jackson music video.
People were crushing hard on Sarah, Jessica Parker, but my gal was Allison lol I like a girl who looks like they’ll punch me in the face
This is a halloween classic, i must watch it every year

I *wholeheartedly* second this suggestion! FWC is a timeless, feel-good masterpiece #youdontownme
The wicked witch of the west from the wizard of oz is the only witch melting with water. Not all of them 😊
Gary Marshall and Penny Marshall were also together in a League of their Own but in a change of positions she directed while Gary was one of the actors.

Watch Halloween ll and Psycho ll. Love this film.
This made my heart happy 😍
Absolute classic 💜💜

Lamia, Empusa and Mormo. And Ditchwater Sal. That's another one for October. The movie is called Stardust.
Another Bette Midler movie is Ruthless People with Danny DeVito, Judge Reinhold, Helen Slater, and Bill Pullman in his defining role.

If you watch NCIS, you may have noticed that the boy playing Thackery Binx currently plays Agent McGee on the show
I'm gay and even i had a crush on sjp in this film. Lols.
❤
The guy that has I’ve written in his head he was on Buffy,he played Larry.
You should watch Trick R treat!
BEST Halloween movie! 👍
Timothy McGee needs to stop cosplaying as a cat and get back to NCIS lol 😆 😂
This is my kind of Halloween movie....funny scary.....but not really scary!
(The actresses seemed like they had such fun filming this movie too!)
I thought so too!! 😊
You should try "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken", starring Don Knotts. You know with him as the star, it can't be "really scary".
That is one of our favourites!! Don Knott's is a treasure.
@@Jen-Mom I watch it every year!

Hey my Friends, react to "Christine" (1983) great movie by Stephen king & John Carpenter. Thanks 🎉
The actor who's the voice of Binx grew up to play McGee in NCIS
He isn't the voice of Binx, just the body. Binx's lines were dubbed by Jason Marsden.
@@knowledge-girlCorrect, The voice actor is Max from A Goofy Movie.

I have a request for you and your mother. CREEPSHOW from 1982. Five of Stephen King's stories in a film that salutes 1950s horror comics.
