I haven't thought about this in so long! I almost couldn't make it through this doc when I first saw it as a young teen. If you haven't seen it, please watch Africa Addio. It is one of the most striking documentaries about the continent I have ever seen. It is free in HD quality on youtube both with the english narration and without.

This brings up so many issues regarding the manipulation of people and the law systems. I’m sure the homicidal mother didn’t see that she was doing wrong. She was simply ‘evening the score’. The judge had too much discretion, I could have easily seen the mother killing the grandparents. For all the judge knew, she could have had a ‘hit list’. She just hadn’t accomplished it yet.

I don’t think “nightmare fuel” would be the most appropriate description of the documentary. It is not a scary documentary, leaning more on the sad tragic.

idk I'd say the existence of people like Shirley Turner who can and will do what she did and basically get away with it is terrifying. (also, I'd rather go through all the jumpscares from the Paranormal Activity series on loop than see the reveal scene of Shirley and Zachary's death again...)
