- In this video, we check out my latest arcade game pickup. This is a rare
Sinistar cockpit! I believe only 200 of these were made so it makes it
ultra rare among arcade collectors! I'm very excited to have it and I can't
wait to share it with you!

About Sinistar
Sinistar is a multidirectional shooter arcade game developed and manufactured by Williams Electronics. The game was released in 1983, though the in-game copyright notice reads 1982. Sinistar was created by Sam Dicker,Jack Haeger, Noah Falstein, RJ Mical, Python Anghelo, and Richard Witt.
In addition to the game's roaring antagonist, Sinistar is known for its high difficulty level.
Sinistar was the first game to use stereo sound (in the sit-down version), with two independent front and back sound boards for this purpose. It also used a 49-way optical joystick that Williams produced specifically for this game.
The voice of Sinistar was recorded by radio personality John Doremus[8] and played through an HC-55516 CVSD decoder.
The 6809 source code for Sinistar is available at github.com/historicalsource/s...

Ralph is attempting to get murdered by his wife, lol.
I think as long as he keeps in the garage it’s all good. It’s when you start taking over the rest of the house is when you get in trouble!
100% That's our current agreement... "current"... LMAO... I kid I kid. She's super supportive but if I start taking over the house, not sure that would be good for me... haha! Thanks for watching bud!
@@RetroRalph The wife can tolerate my arcade collection growing in the garage and I can tolerate her enormous shoe collection piling up in the walk-in closet.
Not everyone’s wife is a beyotch man.
@@rphntw1n It's called "a joke".
I never knew the Sinistar joystick had speed control. Thanks for showing us around the machine
Now I am impressed! This is my holy grail of games and to have the cockpit version....just unbelievable. Looking forward to more videos on this one!!
Couldn't agree more! Man, this game is just a gem, I know it didn't do well in the arcade, but I think it's because at first, it's not obvious how to play it. I feel like I want to become an ambassador for the game to get more people exposed to it. It's just so damn addicting, stressful and fun! Thanks so much for watching!
Needs a sequel lol
I’ve never played this game that I know of. I still can appreciate how cool this is. In 1983, I would have been 8 years old and thinking it’s next level! Haha
I love the sound of those cockpit arcades
To me felt cozy it would take the game to another world of enjoyment you felt like you were in space this us an amazing pick up
Best one yet
HOLY CRAP!!! That is SUPER awesome!!!
Awesome music at 0:52. Sounds like a cyberwave version of pump up the jam.
Thanks man, It took me an hour to find a song that I felt fit the vibe of the video, so I appreciate this comment more than you realize.
whouuuuuu That game was so scary and stressful when I played it in the arcades.
Ralph delivers once again!
Thanks brother, much appreciated!
Growing up on Long Island, sinstar is a staple amoung arcade games. Rawr. Was born here.
Man that’s an awesome score brother
Playing this outside a department store in Alpena MI in the 80's is a memory I won't soon forget. The frantic pace of the game combined with the roar as Sinistar was chasing you was fear inducing. Definitely brought on the "one more quarter" syndrome.
I have played the cockpit version of Sinistar a few times at Pinball PA. Fun fun fun!
Glad I could help bro and glad you went FPGA as we discussed to save the PCBs ;)
That intro was epic!
I think this adds to the argument that just about any arcade game can be improved by having a sit-down version, this Sinistar cockpit looks really wicked.
That into was hilarious. Well done!!! Lol.
Fun intro! Great pick up! Looking forward to seeing how you clean it all up and refresh it! I've never played sinister or even seen one in person! We will see you oooooon the next one!
That's next level bad ass. You have really amassed one hell of a collection!!
very cool. i'm sure i saw the cockpit version a few times.
still the hardest arcade game of all time for me.
congratulations.

Thanks bro, I hope all is well man! I apprecaite you watching!
Hey Ralph, wow this is a Holy Grail pickup!! The Sinibomb button made me laugh; I forgot about that and was like "Sinibomb or Cinnabon...need a button for Cinnabons!!" ...time for breakfast I think!!!
Wow awesome pickup man! Can’t wait to see what you do with it 👍🏼
Great find. A have lots of memories of Sinistar, it's one of my favorites.
Congrats! The cockpit is killer.
Thanks man! I hope all is well! You going to SFGE by chance?
@@RetroRalph Nope, just got back from another event. So sitting that one out. Have fun!
Yea I rock finding that for him LOL
Whoa, one of my favs. This is a mega acquisition.
Always happy to see your videos
Gratz on getting such an amazing rare cab!
Awesome! Really cool design on the cabinet! Gotta love retro arcades!
✌🏼😎👍🏼
Can’t wait for the Roboton 2084 video
I need to get a real one first, I have it in a Williams cabinet with the multi but man, I really want a dedicated original though. Hopefully before 2022 is over I can make that happen! Thanks for watching!
Nice get, Ralph! I'm glad it's in good hands.
Thanks man, I appreciate you watching!
Classic Ralph intro. I love seeing this side again. I miss it. But you know you need help right.
Thanks bro! See you in a few days at SFGE!!!
@@RetroRalph countdown begins
BEWARE I'm jealous! Great pickup Ralph! Keep us updated please.
Enjoy SFGE!!
That's cool Ralph. I remember when you were in California you were eye balling this sit down game. Rare. Good choice. I'm surprised your wife hasn't gotten mad. 🤛
Dude! This is sick! I've commented on some Sinistar before, one of the great games!
Congrats man, crazy pickup
What a grab! Definite grail right here.
The cabinet is really beautiful. It will be nice to see your vids as you restore it.
that's super cool! never had the opportunity to play that one in the arcade, it wasn't till the Arcade's Greatest Hits games on consoles that I got my first taste of Sinistar... definitely fun on SNES but I can't imagine how much more epic the cockpit arcade version was!!
It’s funny that you say it’s like a car hood because that’s the first thing I thought of. That’s so badass you have this. I never seen a cockpit one before. It’s pretty cool that you have this and the roadblasters
Thanks bud, I appreciate you watching. I’m super excited to have it. This piece is pretty historical as far as arcade gaming goes. I’m so curious how many of these actually exist.
Great find 👍
Wow what a find! A holy grail.
Cool as always
That looks so much fun to play and as a project, totally jealous!
Never played this game but that cockpit is fantastic looking. Congrats on the find.
Wow, now that is a grail
One of my favorite arcade games; loved it so much. Never remember seeing a sit down version of it ever.
Man you pull off the sickest og pickups! My dawg!
✊🏼✊🏼✊🏼✊🏼 Thanks for watching bro! Hope you’re staying cool… it’s hot 🥵 as hell in the desert 🌵 right now. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
@@RetroRalph hell ya brutha! In the pool right meow lmao
Such a well-designed sit-down cab, every inch has cool details...The hood popping mechanism is super sweet:)
Thanks for braving the heat to show us your latest pickup. I haven't been outside in 3 days due to the heat wave.
Dude, I’d be afraid to go in that garage!!!!!! Sinistar is in there!!!
Never knew they made a cockpit one. Only seen 2 stand up ones in my life. Fun spot NH & freeplay RI. You can definitely hear that machine over most in the arcade.
Yes. You'll definitely know that a Sinistar is on location! According to Eugene Jarvis Williams also made three Blaster cockpit cabinets just like the Sinistar one. Supposedly Williams also made a cocktail version of Sinistar (prototype?) but AFAIK this hasn't been confirmed.
Sinistar rules! I would love one of those. Great video. Thanks man. I wish there was a Sinistar app I could play on my phone..
Congratulations 🎊🎈🍾🎉
This is beautiful
It's alive! 🤜🤛
It certainly is ;-) ... Thanks so much for watching!
Great score, bro! I've never seen the cockpit version before. Absolutely cool as shit!
Thanks for watching man, it’s for sure pretty damn cool!
Unbelievable pickup. This gives me hope to eventually add a Star Trek cockpit to my home arcade. Congratulations!
I can honestly say that I had never played the cockpit, with only 200 made and living in the Midwest it makes sense.
How awesome to see! I got to play one of these back in the mid-80’s at the Fun Machine in Fern Park, Florida. That place is long gone. What a great find!
Thanks man! It’s really fun to play it like this. They designed the cockpit really well.
Looks great Ralph, Love me some Sinistar. That centering grommet is huge for this game, if broke it feels sloppy, aka Ghost. Thinking about SFGE, but 11 hour drive, eek. Keep up the great video's.
ralph great pick up i just got my self a z back with x-men vs street fighter love your videos keep up good work
Dope pick up man! Congrats!!💀
Appreciate it!! Thanks for watching!
What!!! No way, I didn't know Sinistar had a cockpit! I'd lysol the heck out of that bench, I'd imagine many people crapped themselves playing it.
Dude. Absolutely love your videos; easily my favorite youtuber haha. Sorry I'm a groupie; but this cab is amazing and though I never played it, watching your vids makes me search for it everywhere in LA. Thus far I haven't been able to find it. Going to Button Mash in LA and Neon Retro Arcade tonight to check it out with a bunch of buddies. Bless you brother; keep making these vids!
Wow, that’s so nice of you to say man… thank you so much! It’s something I have just always loved so I really enjoy sharing that passion with others. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the comment and for your support of the channel ✊🏼. I hope you find a sinistar. I think I’m going to do a guide of how to play soon. It’s really fun once you understand the game objectives and some basic tips and tricks. Anyhow, thanks again!
@@RetroRalph Thanks for the response brother. I'll look for it and let you know!
Hahahahaha classic ralph intro I love it! Your intros are THE BEST!!!! And so HILARIOUS!! Hahahahahaha 😂 Keep them coming!!! Insane score by the way holy cow 2022 pickups never end and are the elite tier of games congrats! You gunna keep both cabs?
Super spooky 👻
Oddly enough they had one for sale locally here in Ontario a few months ago. Very cool you found one!
You are running out of room Ralph!!! Good pickup bro!
Oh and BAGS!
Awesome grail find! Now that you have a crazy set up in your garage, it is time to start thinking about getting some AC installed in there so you aren't limited to only being able to enjoy what you have to half the year. You are lucky in that you live in the desert, so no dehumidifier needed (mine runs constantly in my basement arcade and mold is always a worry where I live).
Nice cab!
Now you got my attention! True classic, not those horrible fighting games lol.
I had no idea there was a sit down version of this game...!!!
Very neat game
One of the rarest arcade machines in existence. Great score, but it’s gonna some work. Very creepy game.
And here I am just happy to be getting a CHANCE to get an A1U Defender Partycade that has Sinistar. :P
Tip for multicade builders that want to get Sinistar working on their cab: Modern analog joysticks work excellently in place of the old-school 49-way joysticks. I kinda hope A1U realized this for NFL Blitz.
Cool pick up! I love arcade games with unique controls not easily replicated through emulation and unique cabinets!
I'd love to purchase Mad Dog Mcree, Ivan Stuart's Off-Road, Vapor TRX and Monkey Ball (with banana control!) cabs...
Congrats Ralph! Interesting.. well love for you to check out "Night Striker" and see why I went with the cockpit version. Even though I have both versions of the game now. I mostly did that in case the other one stopped working that I have a back up PCB. Cause I love the game so much! Anyways have fun at the Expo for me! Wish I had the money to go. :/
That is awesome! And that is a lot of boards lol. It is funny looking back at how much they needed to run something like this. Great pickup and I personally have never seen a sit down one in person. Well, I should say I never knew a sit version was available. Very cool and that one is a keeper
I know right?!? It's crazy hot fast technology has changed from the 80's till today, it's mind-blowing. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment and watch. I hope all is well, I'm way behind on your guys channel, so I will have to get caught up soon. Any chance you guys are getting out to any conferences between now and the end of the year?
@@RetroRalph Oh no worries at all dude and I know your busy. Ha we are all over the place covering everything gaming. Not really the best thing to do to grow quickly but we love it all. Our expertise really comes in video/audio so that is something we are really looking forward to adding to the channel for gaming. (TV reviews and best for gaming. How to properly setup surround for consoles) Things such as that nature. Just anything gaming related in general. Btw, did you ever get your Polymega yet? Im enjoying it so far. Very nice interface and cool to see your collection laid out to choose from. No issues so far. Maybe a hiccup here and there. We currently don't have any plans for conventions. Just because how busy we have been with work and RUclips. I'm sure you know the feeling.
Very cool game and cabinet. Ralph your game is only one of 200 ever made. Crazy. Think 200 in the whole world. I also wonder just how many are actually working then you see how rare it is. 😮🤛🤛
Ralph, I think I see where this is going. You are going to have to open “Retro Ralph Arcade”. It is your destiny.
Trust me man, I want to soooooo bad. 🙏🏼 I believe in it, just need to figure out the best way to do it.
Pinball PA in Pittsburgh, PA has a working sitdown out on their floor. Over 400 games in the place. If you ever make it over to that area you'll have to check the place out! I drive 3 hours just to play games there lol.
Hysterical opening 😊
LOL... thanks bud!
You should totally do a part 2, upgrade/restore give us an update please, love sinistar!
Bruh.. "Beware I Live" still haunts my dreams.. first played at #Bordens in Morrisville PA back in them 80s
LOL... It's such an epic game. I feel like since it kind of flopped in the arcade it doesn't get much love in current times... other than super fans. So, I appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment!
Yes, the Retro Ralph classic intro's are back 😁
Yeah this is one awesome cabinet to own.
Only do you not have a problem with space now with such a big cabinet in your Arcade Garage ?
Run to Atlanta coward, run! lol. I spent many a day off playing Sinistar at the E Club when I got stationed here in Florida in '85. A $5 pitcher of beer and a roll of quarters. Never knew there was a sit down version, nice find.
AGGGGGRRRHHHHHHH BEWARE I LIVE!!!! in a dark arcade scared all the kids back in the day I loved it lol
The Two Player Option Was a Real Knee Banger as The Cab Was Not Built For Two !!! Players Would Sit Half In & Half Out as The Time Was Never Enough to Made the Exchange...
Shit man, what a fucking score! That's sooo badass
Thanks man! I appreciate you watching!
My friend has one hes had for about 20 years now...So cool....
Damn you Ralph. I HUNGER!
I think there are probably more then 200 of these ... based on how many times I've seen this in the wild. It is a super cool cockpit though. Maybe the best cockpit of all time. Very LOUD machine. You could hear it everywhere in the arcade. Typical of Williams games in that era ... it's hard as hell! I remember this game at an arcade at Alma School and Southern in Mesa AZ. I alway put a quarter in it ...every time I was in the arcade. This is one of those games that is not properly represented without playing on the actual machine. Does not lend well to typical MAME experience.
I think there had to be more than 200 of these made. I remember my local suburban arcade had one. It used to terrify me (I was ~10 at the time) when it spoke. It was the first cockpit style cabinet I saw in the arcade.
Galloping Ghost has one. And a standup.
Oh man, I would love to know what that set you back. I suck at the game but i always play the sit down at the Ghost cause its so cool.
Wow never knew about this.
wicked
Indeed, see you at SFGE man!
You might be able to replace the joystick with an Ultimarc UltraStik 360 or 360FS (flight stick) which - in a normal setup - provides pressure-sensitive N-way analog movement (without the rubber bands). However if you're using the SYSFPGA you may have to turn off the 49-way mode and let it emulate from "8 way" mode (even tho you're using an N-way analog stick). There may also be 49-way rotary limiters out there for modern joysticks (not sure), good luck *c:*
😂😂😂 dope intro… this arcade is insane.. wow.. #GamerTone1up
Did not even know a sit down version existed.
.......and.....there's that bedding I'm still waiting on from the Whatnot auction 🙄
😂😂 It’s in the mail 👍🏻
