Your incredibly lucky to not only ride the cab, but to have such an informative and helpful driver. So nice he slowed down to allow you to film the abandoned station!
I live on an island in the middle of the South Pacific. No Trains here. So the ride along is so fascinating and love every minute of it. So amazing to see how the lines and tunnels cross, and abandoned stations. Hope to travel to London one day so the reason for jumping on here is to understand how the Train Network works...riding up front is a bonus. Also have the Tube Map as we ride along...So cool Thank you!
My late father was a train operator for the Piccadilly line for almost 18 years, later moving on to becoming a station master at Caledonian Road. Thanks to this video, I got to experience what he would’ve seen.
As an Ex Carriage Examiner @Northfields Depot, this brings back a lot of memories for me. I remember doing test runs and stock transfers from the Piccadilly to the Northern line. Loved every minute of my time working @ Northfields Depot. I also used to be a Call Point Examiner @ Leicester Square.
Excellent cab ride. You had great interaction with driver, without being loud and annoying like some people in the cab filming are. I could actually bear listening to your convo! Also, your camera picked up the light in the tunnel well so we could see all the crossovers and disused parts, albeit with some minor focusing issues.
Back in the late 1980s this was my route to work and you could feel (and hear) what I have just learned to be the crossover at the old York Road station but I never knew what it was because you couldn't see the station. It's really nice to see the old station up close, and I'm sure the ride in that section is a lot smoother and quieter now.
Great video, better than the other cab rides I've watched. You can see the track, and it's not complete darkness. Look forward to watching the next one
wow! I go past York Road on my commute every single day - I’ve seen the old station building at surface level so I know there used to be a station there. but this is probably the closest I’ll ever get to seeing the old platforms and this was amazing, thank you!!
A great video sir. I noticed beside the right hand (running) rail a device that I have only seen in Sydney and Melbourne Australia. An Emergency train stop device AKA Train-Stop! Wow, I thought London abolished the device?
Yes train stops are still used on the Piccadilly, Bakerloo, Waterloo & City and the outer reaches of the sub surface lines. It is also in use on Great Northern Class 717 trains on the Northern City Line however the NCL ones will be replaced by ETCS signalling by the end of the year.
@@cheeky01 Its interesting that they are replacing _Train Stops_ as to Sydney and Melbourne, they are not replacing _train stops_ as they may know better, as they are 100% reliable than some PCB that may or or may not work! Can we really trust electronics? I keep pondering that question? As for Brisbane, they may be introducing _train stops_ on their metro line after 80+ years after Sydney and Melbourne has! Its amazing that not all passenger trains used _train stops_ that is 720VDC (third rail) and 25KV (overhead wire) Metros, and Intercity trains? A key word here *Safety* an old system sometimes works better than modern systems!
Finsbury Park. I've never seen a station not only be on a curve but also on an incline. Here in Toronto, all our stations are perfectly level and all but two stations are perfectly straight (Union (University side) and St Clair are the exceptions)
At Finsbury Park the westbound Piccadilly line was routed into the ex Northern City platform to allow for cross platform interchange with the Victoria line.
absolutely loving how filmer bucks the BI trend there by not editing out platform dwells, and even goes so far as to :gasp: pan over to those trackside platform monitors (remembering when all those appliances displayed only in b&w there)
So from Cockfosters to Heathrow was only about an hour and a half (including stops)? That's not bad actually considering the level of surface traffic these days. :-)
So those aren’t fences, as such. They’re cable separators which, as the name implies, keep the power cables at a sufficient distance to prevent short-circuits in the event one should sag in an overload condition. Very ordinary by modern standards, but very much vital.
You missed passing the remains of Osterley Park station which was abandoned when the Great West Road was built in the 30s and the new Osterley station built. Used to walk past the old station and then the extra half mile slog to the new one going to school in Hammersmith. Gutting.
the only time that my District train had outpaced a Piccadilly service was when C stock traipsed about Richmond or Ealing, filling in for disabled CO/CP and R stock due to the *PIDDLY* ice storm that happened to introduce cleptoparisitcally kingdom burg there to the fuckingly-commercialized Eighties
leaf fall.. we had a really bad period of it and it messed up many trains.. i think we had only 25 running at one point so they cut loads down on the whole line to stop it from being an issue.. leaves on the track make it skid when you break which creates flats on the wheels which are loud when driving
I normally ask at the train crew accommodation near the depot. Or ask a driver at a terminus station who I should contact. They are normally very helpful.
Soon be getting new trains, improvements to frequencies?. But same old problems of today with overcrowded trains regardless of no cars instead walk through trains, won’t get much more for one’s money, only increased tube fares.
Oh, don’t be such an old sourpuss. Some of us are very much looking forward to the new trains. For one thing, they’ll be much better for accessibility.
Those rowdy teenagers in the background are the very reason that we need armed police and soldiers patrolling the Tube to raise standards of behaviour, since this is the consequences of abolishing corporal punishment in the home by parents and in schools, as well as by police officers

Excellent film, great chat with driver, manor house was my stop for 8 years 30 years ago, back in Yorkshire now, stations haven't changed.

One sound i always love is the clunking when travelling over the points.
The algorithm - every time the train enters a tunnel, YT thinks it's a scene change, and throws in an ad. Great video!

Now this is the video I am looking for I CAN FINALLY SEE THE TUNNELS haha

Nerd rating for this video is off the scale!
Many, many thanks!

Excellent video of my favourite tube stock and line
It's a wonder the driver can see the signals with the sun shining in his eyes.
Great footage & cab ride of the Piccadilly line heard there bringing in new stock units to the line by 2025.
Lovely train nerd patter as well.

Nice to see a manually driven line, no ATO here
This is great 👍

It's a shame that the Heathrow tunnels weren't designed to also accommodate sub-surface sized trains.
You are lucky

Great to watch , too many RUclips adverts though 🙄
Becuase I uploaded this with legacy monitisation I can't change the number of ads or where they are placed unfortunatly. Thanks for watching.

I think the Bakerloo is probably more fun to be on tbh

What, they cut all of those Trees down so you could see the depot..?

Why are there so many signals so close together?
It allows for high frequency of trains
Lots of "suitcases" going to Heathrow..
What does the X over the T mean??
There is no tunnel telephone wires inside the tunnel to connect to the signalling centre
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooh
Hi how did you get a cab ride

wherefrom all that tunnelside trash soon after S Ken..?

Is it a diesel?
No, fully electric

The amount of ads on this is deplorable lol

Interesting but way to many adverts, just stopped watching in the end.
Names of the stations your entering would have been helpful. Assuming people know kind of limits your video viewing.
Well I have on the timelapse version. But it also has the name of stations as chapters on the watch bar.
Too many crap adverts!
