After you take that top part off there is a filter that pulls out and you’ll be shocked at all the crud down there. Be careful there could be glass broken in there so use caution when you stick your hand in. You will feel a wire like thing poking out from front towards back. That is a mini garbage disposal that will have gunk wrapped around it.

You pulled out the large grate but you did not pull out the smaller grate that is in the hole. You need to pull it out and clean it just like you cleaned the larger grate and also clean out that hole it sits in.

While a more extensive cleaning is always possible, it wasn't necessary obviously.

The real gunk is down in the next chamber.. gravity takes the crud down to the last chamber before the pump impeller

My jets can be removed, I take them out and the drain sifter, soak them in a batbtub full of hot soapy bleach water. Once I soak those I put them back in the dishwasher and run a full wash with vinegar (1 to 2 cups). Works like a charm.

Thank you! I have this same dishwasher and was wondering where all these little black particles are coming from every time I put the dishes in. Now Im afraid to lift that cover cause I've never checked under that and have been in my home 10 years...and the dishwasher came with the house so who knows how long its been. 🤢

Isn't the filter underneath that white piece you took out? That would probably be where the issue would be at not the piece you actually took off.... And you didn't remove it to wash it You left it there...

Very helpful video. I have a Hotpoint that is similar to this. Trying to get the filter off and now back on has been pure HELL. Why would you make something that is a pain in the ass to clean? They couldn't put the filter anywhere else or make it any easier to remove and replace? Never buy Hotpoint!!!!!
