I think you'll like Blob, but there is (obviously) some , I guess we'll call it magic/magical realism, in there. I know you're not always a fan of that. But, the main character is a complete mess, if that helps.
Oh I LOVE a complete mess lol yeah magical realism is so hit or miss for me it just depends on the story surrounding it
