You "forgot" to mention that the structural components had been inventoried and also digitally scanned in the years before the fire, so they should be able to reconstruct it with great accuracy
Accuracy is not the problem here. The fact that a one-of-a-kind building is not to be renewed but restored is rather. Meaning that it should not be taken so lightly that the government lets random artist suggest ideas about how it should look like. It takes time and money, furthermore it ruines the quality of the restoration itself. There is a long neverending list of suggestions about designs of Notre Dame. All of which are ridiculous garbage and has nothing to do wtih the original architecture.
I was in Paris in 1976 and visited Notre Dame. The beautiful front stain glass window was impressive. It struck me that once inside, everything seemed so dark, so it was difficult to see much detail of the interior. I seem to remember hearing hymns being sung. When they showed the fire I shed tears for the loss and uncertain future of the iconic church that belonged to the world. So glad to see the restoration coming to its final stages. With all that has been done, Notre Dame should be enjoyed for generations to come.
I, too, remember the interior of the Cathedral being rather dark, which, for me was disappointing because the exterior of the building is so magnificent.
Sorry your impression of the interior was pretty much the same as mine. At least I now know I was remembering it correct;y. Would love to see it again in all its restored splendor.@@gingerninjawhinger9986
I was lucky to be able to visit the Cathedral in about 2015. They had a new and improved lighting system, the interior had been cleaned, and looked absolutely magnificent. The choirs and organs were awesome! The current predictions for re-opening are for later in 2024, a few months later then what was mentioned in the video. PS It was pretty dark inside there, before the new lights were installed.
So glad to hear that the restoration efforts of Notre Dame are almost complete. The grand structures left by our ancestors, whether religious or secular, are our most precious inheritance. They provide us with not only a link to our past but show us the grit, hard work and determination of those who built them. We have inherited the courage, determination and ability to dream of our ancestors. These irreplaceable buildings are a physical testament to humanities continuous drive to achieve and excel.

It never ceases to amaze me how the great cathedrals like Notre Dame (and others throughout Europe) were so well constructed with the technology that was available at the time. Kudos to those great architects and laborers who, knowing they would not live to see the completion of their work, gave their best efforts to build such great and wonderful edifices!

As a history nerd, I am very glad they are restoring it to as close to its original state as possible. That - I think - honors French and Roman Catholic history in the right way.
I think it is tragic that the French are repeating the mistakes of the original builders by reconstructing the original wooden building and setting up yet another eventual fire. The original builders were limited by the technology of their time, but the modern restoration has no excuse for not building a fire-proof roof replacement. What an expensive, backward looking waste of time, money and effort.

On the last day I had a chance to go to Notre Dame, and it was totally a redeeming experience. The place is huge and the public space around it was set up very well. My daughter traveled to Europe in 2007, and visited Paris, The Netherlands, Wales, and Ireland (she was supposed to sightsee in London, but left due to the attempted terror attacks on the first day of her visit.) Very horrible, shocking day.
You should chalk your experience up to being one in a million. I lived in Paris in 2009 and 2010 and it's the MOST amazing city in the world and it is very clean particularly compared to Rome which needs a good power washing from all the soot that accumulates on the buildings (i.e. The Colloseum.) Why have you included a news snippet about Notre Dame, Massachusetts from 1968 at 3:13 when talking about demolishing the cathedral in the early 1800's?
Not only that, he also highlights the fact that the church (not cathedral) is 40 years old and the paragraph says it’s in Salem Square and why would the “Worcester development authority” be involved in plans to demolish Paris’ most important cathedral? Embarrassing…
I have some very nice memories of my visit to Notre Dame many years ago and being thanked, in broken French, for photographing a young Spanish couple (who assumed the 'little man' wearing a hat must be French) with the Cathedral in the background. I broadly smiled, nodded and handed them back their camera and said nothing to embarrass them. In utter horror, almost amounting to panic, I watched the live coverage as Notre Dame burned. I would very much like to see It again when restoration is complete.
We were in Paris in August and of course at Notre Dame. You can see the cranes and scaffolding, but it is not clear how far the structure is. From the outside, everything still looks pretty unfinished. We also asked a few people in Paris. Few believe that the cathedral will be finished in 2024, but many hope that it will at least be restored from the outside to such an extent that the original church will be recognizable. I hope that this wonderful structure will be restored as soon as possible, but do not believe that it will be in 2024.
The last information found on newspaper « The reconstruction of Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral would be on track to allow its reopening to the public at the end of 2024, less than six years after the fire which ravaged its roof, those responsible for the work assured Monday. The deadline for reopening to visitors and the faithful, set for December 2024, was set by President Emmanuel Macron just after the fire in April 2019. Unfortunately, it will not be quite ready for the Paris Olympics, which will take place in July and August 2024. “My job is to be ready to open this cathedral in 2024 - and we will,” says Army General Jean-Louis Georgelin, the army general in charge of the reconstruction project. “We fight for this every day and we are on the right track.” Culture Minister Rima Abdul Malak clarified that although the cathedral will be open to the public, this "does not mean that all renovation work will be completed." She added that there will be "further renovation work in 2025" »
Hen i saw it burning on TV in the US 🇺🇸 I cried so much it was so sad to watch history be destroyed, we don't have many historical places left & to watch something so beautiful & precious 😢 almost fall my heat broke. I how they and restor it back for the future generation to be able to enjoy its glory. 😊
It broke everyone’s hearts to see that beautiful place being unintentionally burned. But I’m so happy for it reopening in time for the Paris Olympic Games next year!
Amazing report! Am so glad that they collected the money to restore Notre Dame, such a magnificent architectural cathedral, with so much history throughout centuries.
If it is due to a cigarette, we'll never know. Very bad publicity for the powerful tobacco industry. Same with forest fires and so on. The devil is a master of disguise...
Thank God it's being restored! The most beautiful thing ever constructed by the hand of man. I'm skeptical of the standard narrative of how it caught fire but be that as it may.
0:19 THIS IS NOTRE DAME OF STRASBURG. Im glad that they, suposedly, will maintain the buildings original design. Imagine restoring the Pyramids lika a cube, the China Wall as a hologram, the Taj Mahal as a Glass building, the Colisee as a Soccer stadium, and so on. Thats disrespectfull.
Let's not sugar coat it, This was definitely an Arson. And it was done by a specific group of people that European countries are in constant defense of.
Thank God they are preserving this precious religious symbol for future generations. It is vital we preserve our Western culture and historical churches and cathedrals. 🙏👏
I remember one of the early submissions for the redesign was a glass roof, which looked modern and that kind of thing worked for the Reichstag Building, but the designer completely forgot that the wooden roof covers over stone vaulting, and it's impossible to remove those vaulting without the walls caving inwards, a design by someone who had no clue how the actual building is constructed. I'm glad some of the expertise of the workers at Guédelon Castle, using their knowledge of vaulting and carpentry to assist in the conservation and rebuild.
I visited this most beautiful cathedral in 1986 as an American architectural interior designer student touring Europe and I was devastated to see this iconic building on fire, my heart sank. I understand that people want to enhance the world new things but when I heard in this video that they were having a contest to repair this World Heritage site on how to repair this site I wanted to choke. Thinking that I’m going to find a stupid pyramid in the middle of the cathedral and ruin the building. People today usually do not understand history and why things were the way they were, therefore the building will never be the same.
I don’t want them to rush the construction to open on Dec 8th, 2024. Rushing loses the beauty of bringing it back to its former glory. Safety, accuracy, and finding a way to ensure this doesn’t happen again should be the priority. ❤
I was there last month and there is still so much work to be done. I’m thinking re-opening is closer to 2025. I hope that I am happily, wrong. However, the structural integrity cannot be rushed. We will definitely be back, once the Cathedral re-opens.
Hats off to the French people for saving it they save Notre Dame! I’m trying to go to France this summer I’d like to speak French but my doesn’t allow it here because this is an English thing
I was there sinting till 4am, till it was safe... a very sad day to see a monument that survived almost everything, destroyed by stupid construction workers or electric default. I am glad we will restore it soon enough even if la Foret, the name of the framework that we had not finished to study, will be lost forever. There is french movie, Notre Dame brule, that shows the fireman's intervention for people who wants to know, and regular update are made about the restoration.😊
I was in Notre Dame in 1997 with my fiancée. It was dark and grimy inside due to centuries of candle smoke and dust pollution. Very pleased to see it being restored. Just a big pity me and my then fiancée became disengaged
I remember at the time of the fire, there was many other Christian locations/artifacts being suspiciously vandalized including another church fire in France, and relics on public display, as well as cemetery displays damaged/destroyed throughout France.
I am ecstatic that the Cathedral will be restored to its original splendor, instead of the atrocious “modern” designs that had been submitted by various artists.
The "firefighters" received an alarm and couldn't find the fire; they left and came back 30 minutes later when the roof was completely in flames. They turned a minor fire into a 1/2 billion dollar debacle. Almost as shameful as asking the world to pay for their mistakes.
I got almost 4 minutes into this 12 minute and 51 second video to find that they’re using front page headlines and pull quotes about a same-named church in Boston Massachusetts. The journalistic integrity of this video is therefore highly questionable and I’m not gonna watch the rest of the damn thing. It’s bullshit.
You don't have to be religious to appreciate historic buildings like Notre Dame. As for the cause, who knows, but have you ever known a Frenchman without a cigarette?
I find it amazing that they can raise $1 billion in under 24 hours to help Notre Dame, but people can be starving living on the streets, and nothing can be done for them. Amazing where our priorities lie
Totally disagree. Even though poverty sucks wherever you live on this marvelous planet… You are still better off being poor in France than in the US today. I’m economically poor. Furthermore, this money is wisely invested as this project involves dozens of highly qualified jobs and new technology to help saving the monument, experience gained that will be very useful for other restauration projects in the future. A nation that do not preserve his past is condemned to vanish in a few generations to come.
Yes well I imagine you have a few pairs of shoes, shirts, and various other belongings you could easily do without and could be used to clothe and feed somebody starving on the streets, but you're not offering those up. Everybody chooses what their limit is.
Because the building is one of a kind, there’s over a billion people, world is overpopulated that’s why people are starving, some countries just keep overpopulated the world
What does it matter what i think if the cathedral opens in time for the Olympics? Was it originally built to open for an event? No, it took 182 years to build & we can only hope advancements in construction techniques will enable it to be complete in less time due to all the red tape, environmental & building codes & of course… cost overruns. Sure it could “open” tomorrow, but it will not be “finished” until 2028, & that time may be, rather WILL BE moved to 2029, 2030, closer to 2040 probably. Time isn’t important, quality is.
it should be worth mentioning that the 'wood' structure of Notre Dame would have been heavy timber oak - a universally accepted standard for 'fire proof' construction. In the event of open flame the outside of the heavy timber chars and then protects the timber. The notion that a cigarette butt or even fully lit could have ignited the heavy timber is ludicrous.
Ho hell another fire expert..... Ok let's go. -First those type of fires CAN start with any heat source available and yes a cigarette butt can be a trigger. -Second the oak beam can indeed resist fire to a certain point, but only for a certain time. And it depends on his state. -Third The wood was probably the first thing burning as most of the time what burns first is something ligth like for example saw dust, plastic, paper or chemical products. And all of them were widly (and stupidly) available on site. -Four Even if it's rebuted it could also be an electrical fire. Ho and before going on a yadada i'm trained to figth fire due to my work in an industrial plant. We had to study the various pics of the site with professional firefigters to point the various safety hasards.
I have conflicting opinions. On the one hand, I want the Cathedral to be "restored" to its original state. On the other hand, I cannot help but think how the billions required to do this could be spent on those who cannot support themselves. As ever, there is such a delicate balancing act between two conflicting needs. Do we raise money to restore a glorious building, or do we raise money to support people in need? Do we have the capacity to do BOTH?
dude, wtf? you use photos and video that do not match what you're talking about. black and white video from the 1500s? video of a normal mass while talking about the mass going on when the fire started? extremely confusing. intentionally confusing?
I'm greatly pleased they decided to keep the original design, capping it with some modernist 'hat' would have been hubris and likely would have aged poorly.
Hail to those that were able to reconstruct & rebuild this magnificent wonder of Paris & it's religious site & on going spirit to save this historical landmark. 🙏✝️🙏

I hope that this wonderful structure will be restored as soon as possible, but do not believe that it will be in 2024.

The reconstruction of Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral would be on track to allow its reopening to the public at the end of 2024, less than six years after the fire which ravaged its roof, those responsible for the work assured Monday.
“We fight for this every day and we are on the right track.”
Culture Minister Rima Abdul Malak clarified that although the cathedral will be open to the public, this "does not mean that all renovation work will be completed." She added that there will be "further renovation work in 2025" »
Hen i saw it burning on TV in the US 🇺🇸 I cried so much it was so sad to watch history be destroyed, we don't have many historical places left & to watch something so beautiful & precious 😢 almost fall my heat broke. I how they and restor it back for the future generation to be able to enjoy its glory. 😊
They will complete it and it will be amazing. Our thoughts are with the French people and the importance of this historic cathedral. 🇺🇸 ❤ 🇫🇷
They will finish before the summer 2024 olympics. They would lose out on too much money if they didn't have it open on time.
It is still cheaper to restore than what it cost following the damages involving the new Europeans riots recently.
It broke everyone’s hearts to see that beautiful place being unintentionally burned. But I’m so happy for it reopening in time for the Paris Olympic Games next year!
I was there today and I believe they will get it done for 2024 but the fine tunings will take much longer.. perhaps 20 to 30 years more
Amazing report! Am so glad that they collected the money to restore Notre Dame, such a magnificent architectural cathedral, with so much history throughout centuries.
I find it so iconic and sad that the heat caused the great bells of Notre Dame to ring even as it burned as if tolling its own demise.
Raise your hand if you've been watching Top Luxury for a long time🤚
shut up mate
Hi bot
I've been here when he had a few thousand subs

I’m so sad.. if anyone has tried to burn gods home on purpose, they will REGRET IT!😢😡
What about those that literally killed God? What will happen to them? What if it's the same folks that burned ND?
🤣🤣🤣🤦♂
If it is due to a cigarette, we'll never know. Very bad publicity for the powerful tobacco industry. Same with forest fires and so on. The devil is a master of disguise...
"God's Home?" 😂
In God willing the Cathedral will be finished before the games .
It will be iconic as it was before.
Thank God it's being restored! The most beautiful thing ever constructed by the hand of man.
I'm skeptical of the standard narrative of how it caught fire but be that as it may.
i hope the repair gets done soon and smoothly
That one employee that gave the wrong location of the fire: 😬
That guy should be investigated
That's most people attitude in Paris (Not the country side). It's like they're all Union workers.
How ever long it takes, may it rise again!
Glad to know that this beautiful church has been saved,
Great and very straight forward story. Thank you
Let's not sugar coat it, This was definitely an Arson. And it was done by a specific group of people that European countries are in constant defense of.
I was in that summer and visited ND... so I saw it just before the fire...
Hmmm-start of Holy Week for Muslims
Thank God they are preserving this precious religious symbol for future generations. It is vital we preserve our Western culture and historical churches and cathedrals. 🙏👏
nice video!
Scary how some designers and architects have no concept of structure.....I never heard that It almost got a gaudy HGTV style make over on the roof😂
Let us hope Notre Dame will re-open in 2024 - a real icon and symbol. Vive le France!
Let us just hope they installed a sprinkler system whch they should have had in the first place.
I pray they complete it fully, soundly, and safely. Vive le France. Vive la Libertė
Just a big pity me and my then fiancée became disengaged
the image at 12:22 is not Notre Dame de Paris, rather the more impressive facade (imo) of Notre Dame de Reims.
The worker left cigalette on the roof during his restore the forests.🔥🔥🔥🔥
I remember at the time of the fire, there was many other Christian locations/artifacts being suspiciously vandalized including another church fire in France, and relics on public display, as well as cemetery displays damaged/destroyed throughout France.
Top Luxury videos as always.
Im impressed it was only 830 million,
viv la France.
March 2024 is the target, I was there recently and I don't believe it will be ready in time!
Hire a night fire guard. It's expensive, but not as bad as rebuilding the whole thing.
12:23 why show the Notre Dame de Rouen in this video? This is about Paris!
I am ecstatic that the Cathedral will be restored to its original splendor, instead of the atrocious “modern” designs that had been submitted by various artists.
In my fictional world, this project already finished rebuild and successful
Notre Dame and the French People are one. The World was Crying when she was burning
I remember the cathedral fire incidents when my professor lectured about it.
Wonderful News 🌹💖💖💖💖
Top luxary, you make quality videos and get what you deserve for your hard work, good luck with your endeavours👍🇺🇿
I find it amazing that they can raise $1 billion in under 24 hours to help Notre Dame, but people can be starving living on the streets, and nothing can be done for them.
Amazing where our priorities lie
Nobody wants to visit Paris to see their homeless druggies.
And some are invaders
Totally disagree.
Even though poverty sucks wherever you live on this marvelous planet…
You are still better off being poor in France than in the US today.
Because the building is one of a kind, there’s over a billion people, world is overpopulated that’s why people are starving, some countries just keep overpopulated the world
You forgot that there's a winner of a new Notre Dame design
Don't think they will be 100% done by summer 2024. But almost, so you can go inside it
I don't think they should rebuild the spire, it's such a new addition to the building and has always looked out of place.
There was originally a spire during medieval times, but it was smaller and got demolished in the 1700 i believe.
06:19 Anyone else note the cretaure of doom that flew by? Like a spell cast...
Scary!
Its interesting they found relics and statues that are not weathered. Anything from 1300 can be rebuilt. Thank God. Only art can be lost.
The clip at 6:54 is of firefighters at the York Minster fire in the 1980s. 🤔
dude, wtf? you use photos and video that do not match what you're talking about. black and white video from the 1500s? video of a normal mass while talking about the mass going on when the fire started? extremely confusing. intentionally confusing?
3:20 he uses an article about a small church in the US with the same name as source saying the cathedral was going to be sold… 🙄
I'm greatly pleased they decided to keep the original design, capping it with some modernist 'hat' would have been hubris and likely would have aged poorly.
At one point there were some talks of restoring the cathedral with some modern crap. Thankfully the final choice was to restore it as it was.
Beautiful. I predict it will be reopened in May 2024.
Yes it will be restored!
Goddess energy was removed there at that time. So sad😢
The newspaper article at 3:36, supposedly from 1844, refers to a different church. Indeed, the newspaper, the “Worcester Telegram,” is dated 1969.
♥ Yeah! really SHODDY work by the site owner!
Hail to those that were able to reconstruct & rebuild this magnificent wonder of Paris & it's religious site & on going spirit to save this historical landmark.
🙏✝️🙏
