Alistair is Cheltenham to me. I love reading his reviews of Cheltenham. He gets the raw emotion of the 4 days puts it in writing and just beautifully sums it up. U Johnny Francome Tanya and Big Mac on TV did the same. Great Interview. Look forward to reading your next column and wish u a great cheltenham. Thank you for getting jump racing the real headlines
Yes, Ch4 racing was my first experience of TV at Cheltenham, I started betting in the early 90s and loved watching the late John McCrerick in the betting ring jungle at Cheltenham, buzzing enthusiasm, I backed Master Oats in the '95 Gold Cup, won a big lump of cash, Istabraq was a Legend... Great days...
@@markperryman1797 Yes Flakey Dove, Mr Mulligan, poor Gloria Victis, Kicking King - the best of times, the worst of times. I had 200/1 on Court Shareef who was 2nd to Monkerhostin in 2004 Coral Cup.
@@anotherblonde I remember that Monkerhostin race, I'm big on Al Boum Photo to win Gold Cup again, he's a good stayer with a touch of athleticism for sprinting up the hill, Paisley Park, Envoi Allen and Epatante are my strong fancies also, I love the meeting, I'll have flutters on the big handicaps.
@@markperryman1797 I followed Court Shareef as I knew the owners, it had run 2nd at Royal Ascot so when it turned up at Cheltenham, they said it would go well. I tipped it to everyone I knew that week, of course everyone laughed at me. I saw the stable review, and Ruby's comments about Al Boum photo. I like to pick outsiders at big prices
Alistair you have always exuded so much passion...your pre and post raceday analysis has always been pretty joyous..and was a main reason why I would ensure that buying the Racing Post every day over the festival was an absolute pre-requisite. I hope you have many more to come
Alastair Down in this interview encapsulates the magic that is the Cheltenham Festival. You have to go to it to understand what Alastair is talking about.Once it gets to you, inside your DNA almost,it becomes part of your soul.Pure and simple. No escaping it.
Going to listen to this at work later but already having watched the little trailer on Twitter I can't wait. As others have said I miss him, Francombe, Tommo, Simon Holt etc, even though I like the ITV coverage. 30 hours to go!!!
Thank You for the Memories, Alastair
RIP
I haven't seen Alastair for 3 years till today it was great to see him, A truly great National hunt journalist and decent man.
Wonderful. Nothing but total admiration for Alastair Down, and I owe much of my own love for Cheltenham to him.

R.I.p Alastair grew up listening to you on channel 4 racing
Alastair is the voice of Cheltenham. The quintessential tone to set the four days of battle that us mere mortals do against the “Auld Enemy”.
