Tone + Agility/Mobility + Soul, these three are the ingredients for a good rnb sound, then add in an adequate range and unique skillet, you'll have a voice fitting for almost any genre-thats D.O. for you. He sounds good in foreign languages too.
I grew up listening to R&B/Soul and was pleasantly surprised to hear how soulful Korean singers could be once I got into K-Pop. This was even before Exo. I listened to artists such as Urban Zakapa and Brown Eyed Soul. I was also a huge Big Bang fan at the time. I find an interesting contrast in that. To me, Daesung always had a more soulful voice than Taeyang although Taeyang’s preferred singing style was more R&B. Fast track many years later, I discovered Exo and fall in love because they encapsulated everything I had loved from those older groups and more. However, I feel the same way with D.O. and Baekhyun as I do with Daesung and Taeyang. Even though Baekhyun’s preferred music style is R&B, I still think D.O. sounds more soulful than him. D.O. doesn’t even sing that style of music but when you listen to his music, you can still hear soulful emotion in his voice and can’t help but to be moved. He is the only member that has made me cry due to their voice and the way they sung something.
😳 you just made me remember that I was supposed to add Daesung and Taeyang to the list. I had pre-planned it from the beginning but I forgot. I agree D.O. and Baekhyun have a similar contrast to Daesung and Taeyang. I got into Big Bang rather late, but when I started listening to them I noticed the same thing with Dae and Tae.
Yes...that's why I was shock when I heard D.O. vocal and in love with his voice, because I really like R&B soul music before like Boyz 2 Man, Usher and many more. Then I'm in love with EXO...the best ever in kpop I ever know until now

D.o's voice is the combination of many western artist like Boyz2men, Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Zayn Malik and many more. When I heard his voice first I'm amaze cause I never heard a western RnB voice in kpop.. there's a lot of RnB artist in 1st and 2nd gen but d.o is the only one can sing with right pronunciation,diction and vowel in every word not only in Korean but in different languages he sing it's just super clear that no one think his Korean.

Yes! Exactly Anne. I was blown away when I heard D.O. for the first time in what is love. I always say, it was SHINee that introduced me to K-pop, but it was EXO that locked me in and solidified me as a fan of K-pop and D.O. played a huge role in that for me.
I was a BTS fan first before running to EXO..with EXO I saw a different kind of music..so i kept listening to their songs.They are all so cute whenever they sing whenever the dance Then I listened to What is Love..gosh Baekyun's voice was vocally capable to do all genre of songs but.. i said But D.O. WOW! Incredible! He is truly a soul person .. until this year 2024. He is so exciting to see singing his songs greatfully ..for me he is the Soul RnB artist!!

Thank you for this! Really well done and spot on! I grew up on RnB, Soul and Gospel before branching out. But I didn't get into kpop until last year because of D.O.'s kdramas and then his singing. He blew my mind with his smooth honey raspy voice and all that soulful skill! Chen eventually became my bias because of his power, precision, blessed range and heart. But all EXO members wreck me for various reasons. Baekhyun just has so much RnB passion. D.O. does too, but it's like he's also got Soul in his soul. And you can hear soulful elements in everything he does, even when he goes Ed Sheeran style. He brought it when he did Spot with Zico too! And his solo work, his Empathy album is chef's kiss. can not agree more with you.. i like the three of them. but Kyungsoo voice is just........mmmh... until now, i haven't heard korean singer that have similar RnB soul, style and tone as Kyungsoo except Yoo Young Jin (his vocal coach, the king of korean RnB).. if you perhaps watch many Kyungsoo's fancon fancams where he cover snippet of many songs without music... geeez... i swear you will fall deeper to his voice. his voice is so full, warm, and delicate like hot/warm chocolate. from the examples you said that have same style as D.O. i personally none of them have the similar soul/sound/style like him. but for Baekhyun... i agree with you. he could easily sing RnB soul song perfectly with his amazing riffs and run. but maybe D.O.'s vocal tone and how effortlessly hi sing and do riffs and run is what made D.O. is a soulfull RnB singer i think. i found some singer who have similar tone and singing style like Baekhyun that is Changsub of BTOB. at the 1st time i heard him sing on their killing voice.. i said to my self.. that he is the Byun Baekhyun of BTOB. he has tha most similar voice, tone and style with Baekhyun. and for Kyungsoo and maybe i can say Chen too.. i haven't found the Doh Kyungsoo and the Chen of other boygroup/soloist so far (from any singer i've heard) in term of their vocal tone and style. and imagine, EXO have these 3 amazing top tier vocalist in one group!!!
Thank you for this insightful review. I grew up listening to soul R&B. I get your take on what encapsulates a soulful R&B vocal. I agree that Doh Kyungsoo is a natural born soulful vocalist. He just needs to open his mouth, and he releases that natural sound filled with deep emotions. I also love Byun Baekhyun. But there is just something about Kyungsoo's voice that reaches the depth of your soul. Kyungsoo is currently doing an Asian Fanconcert. There's a clip of him singing John Legend's 'All of Me' at the recent Malaysian fancon. He brought that song to life!!! His runs were ridiculous, I had to replay it. Check it out and enjoy! 🙏🏽

I do not love him any less than Kyungsoo. I honestly listen to his solo music regularly ever since. But as an American, growing up around the genre soul and R&B, in the country it originated, I can see what the creator of this video is trying to convey. I may not be a vocal coach, but I grew up singing in choir at school and church since young. I played a few instruments in my youth and took dance (ballet, tap, jazz, Lyrical, hip-hop, cultural) for over 10 years. I may not be an expert, but I think I have experienced enough of the arts and music world to make a fair judgment that is not totally unreasonable. There is no need to put down the creator of this video or others for praising Doh Kyungsoo on having a unique vocal sound. And we shouldn't make it a point to discredit others who share the love for music. I appreciate that you feel passionate and have the need to praise Baekhyun. He is a blessing and talent that deserves so much praise and recognition. No one is denying that. But from a general audience perspective that grew up on soul r&b like Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Whiteney Houston, James Brown, Jackson 5, Brian McKnight, Boys II Men, Motown artists, etc...that old school sound... 100% agree, all the opinions here about D.O and Baek same as what i thought with no doubt. I listen Kpop since Gen 2. And im a big fan of BigBang. But since MADE album, i try to listen another group song for random & casually and led me to song called "Tell me what is love" ft Yoo young jin without knowing EXO before (even my sister mentioning EXO for so many times, just like i never move on from BigBang since than) this sing slap me hard and made me thrilled with those kind vocal technique. Since than i really love every song that he sang and introduced me to EXO . till now EXO and BigBang has special place in my heart especially D.O's vocal

I totally agree with you. I love them both but D.O. was who drew me to E.X.O. I was amazed by how soulful his voice is. I absolutely love their song " What is Love?" D.O. hits soulful songs on a higher level than Baekhyun, and that's just my opinion. No shade to Baekhyun , but if you're talking to a T, it's D.O. 💯❤️
As a black EXOL, I can only say that you nailed it. I literally grew up on R n B and i discovered D.O. first and he introduced me to EXO. I love every single one of these gifted lovely boys. But my bias will always be D.O. because his voice touches my soul. His voice is warm, velvelty and so much more. I love Baek too btw. And i support all of them on their solo work because if course i fell in love wth EXO. I am waiting for a BaekSoo collab and a D.O. RnB album. These have been my wishes since i became a fan in 2014. Hope it happens very soon.

I agree, D.O. is pure R&B, even when he tries not to be. It's organic and just IS his lane. Yet he refuses to give the fandom the R&B album we have been begging for.
I grew up on R&B/Soul and my fav vocalists in kpop are D.O., Baekhyun, Chen, Jonghyun (RIP), and Wendy because they all have soulful voices. My ults are D.O. and Wendy. They just know how to add those riffs and runs and emotions that I love in R&B vocalists.

I cut it to the bridge when Jonghyun belts the noona part and then Key and Onew throw in their beautiful vocals only to end it with Jjong belting need a replay and I want a replay! Heaven to my ears! To me DO's voice is like salt to a perfectly done recipe, he adds taste. DO's voice can make EXO's amazing overall vocals, perfect. Everytime I hear him, I feel what he sings about, without understanding korean. He sings emotions. For example, I loved the Obsession album, and I loved the side tracks Baby you are and Ya ya ya, but I couldn't help myself from thinking DO would have rocked this or that part. He would have added that extra oomph.
It’s a really beautiful description. Guess that’s what they mean by music being a universal language, even if we don’t understand Korean, we still feel the same emotions as when someone of our native tongue sings. That is the power of music and gifted voices.

You're right about D.O, I've seen the odd video of vocal coach reacting to D.O, having to revamp parts of the video and put it on at a slower speed to point out riff And Runs so fast that they say "it's just that people who don't understand music or don't have a good ear go unnoticed or as something normal when it's very difficult to do, it comes naturally to her and that is because she knows how to control the air very well and help herself with her whole body not only with her throat) that's why there are stupid people Who come to say that he doesn't sing 🤣🤣🤣 that he does not force himself enough and has no idea, what he stops looks simple and that he does not "force" many others find it difficult to do it and that a singer does not have to force himself because it can even be harmful, they believe that if they do not scream or the veins of their neck are not seen it is not Sings
You know that Kyungsoo is the King of the genre and the standard when, despite the fact that other singers have made albums in RnB or have a lot of songs in that genre, everyone demands that KS sing it, to all those who sing the genre everyone compare them to him, that cannot be denied, no matter how much they want to... there are voices that adapt because they are agile and there are others that were Born to sing it, as simple as that 🤷

I love them both and have listened to them live in concerts this year; they are both incredible vocalists. In Exo songs, they often sing the same parts of the song at different times, and for the most parts both pull them off equally well. I have seen fancams of Kyungsoo singing Baekyun's UN Village, and it's just not the same 😅 I guess likewise if Baekhyun ever covers one of Kyungsoo's solo songs. As much as I love Baekyun though, Kyungsoo's voice is just on another level for me. Eternally hoping he will do an R&B song (or album!) at some point, but I am very happy with whatever genre he puts out anyway.

I love both these guys and I would agree. Based on the sound of there voices, D.O is more R&B. I find it interesting that his solo music tends to be more pop than R&B. Baekhyun is very versatile. I think he is the most versatile singer I have heard. He lives in that R&B genre. Also, I was very happy to see Yonghoon mentioned in the video. I absolutely love his voice and I wish more people would talk about him.

Grew up with R&B, old school motown. & guess who's my bias in EXO? Yeap, that very person in my profile pic. Though personally, I wouldn't say he didn't get his voice thru practice. During debut period, he said his fav vocalist was Wanya Morris from Boyz ii men. So he probably osmosized that soul into him already, lol~ As for Baek, to me, he's a straight up crooner. As much as I'm glad they are delving into their personal music interests, I'll love to hear BH try more ballads cos that's the genre I feel he touches me most in. & likewise, Kyungsoo does pop equally well but he's honed his R&B skills since young & that has already been inbuilt into him so it's gonna be a waste if he doesn't do a full out R&B album at least once (though he did say he's thinking of trying R&B in his next album, so fingers crossed!).

Yes that’s exactly it. It’s not about high or low vocal registers and hitting certain notes, it’s about their distinctive voices and vocal styles. If either of them sang each other’s parts, it would still sound good, it just wouldn’t hit the same.

I think D.O really captures R&B Soul so much and i actually love his solo albums bevause its so different from the usual EXO sound and is very much folk pop acoustic mixed with some R&B (especially his firsf album). For me, I would associate the three EXO main vocals with three different genres. Baekhyun - Pop or Pop R&B, Chen - Soul Ballad or K-Ballad, D.O. - R&B Soul or Folk Pop
We all know the "holly trinity" of Kpop are Chen, Baekhyun and Kyung Soo. But also we know the perfect voice for R&B is Kyung Soo 👑🤍. And Baekhyun is sooo gorgeous too. As Chen's voice. I love and acknowledge all of my EXO EMPERORS 🤍🥰.
I think Kyungsoo has a more soulful voice, it's seriously BEAUTIFUL! But I'm more drawn to Baekhyun as a singer. He just engages me more emotionally somehow? Not that I'm never touched by D.O.'s singing, but in general. It's like Kyungsoo's voice is almost too perfect to me? What I like about Baekhyun is not necessarily his polished techniques or high notes, but his mid range, his versatility and when he sings 'sweetly'. To me D.O's voice is more cool and clear, like water, while Baekhyun's voice is like warm sand and has a bit more fire and sparks to it.
I'm Baekhyun biased, he's literally my favorite vocalist and singer ever, but fighting about the fact Kyungsoo has the most r&b voice is ridiculous, literally his voice is like made of pure soul...Everytime I hear his voice he gives me those r&b and funk vibes!! On the other hand, Idk if I'm the only one but when it comes to Baekhyun he gives me those old jazzy vibes (ofc not talking just about the tecnique he uses but his tone of voice as well), for me his voice is very sweet and jazzy, too delicate but at the same time powerful... I don't know how to explain 😅

No doubt about it....hands down DO has that R&B and soulful voice since I first heard him, but please listen to 4Men new and old members absolutely embody the soul of the music they are singing❤❤❤❤ but I love DO cause he can make anything he sings so DAMN good!!!!
i grew up listening to great ballads and rock ballads. so i prefer Chen's music and singing style/technique. Baekhyun and Kyungsoo are amazing in their own styles too. they chose the style of music they want and pulled them off perfectly.

I saw a short video the other day and he sang "a snippet" of a Bill Withers song because that was his dad's favorite when Kyung Soo was growing up. I think this explains a lot.
I started writing 7 times.. I didn’t know which to praise first; your multifaceted vibrant commentary or praise for the artist!! There’s a quote in the Tina Turner movie where Ike Turner told Tina to ‘put some stank on it’ referring to making the song more soulful and spicy, much like Sista SoInSo who leads the praise team on Sunday Morning! It’s effortless! That said when D.O. opens his mouth to sing, it’s raw. He doesn’t sing.. HE SANG. Whereas Baekhyun has (to me) a more ‘Sophisticated Smooth R&B’ sound. It’s funny I immediately thought about the Big Band era sound of ‘Amusement Park’ by Baekhyun and asked myself ‘Would this song qualify for R & B?’ My favorite is ‘Bungee’.. I LOVE ALL 3 of EXO’s gifted vocalist! Auntie so loves how keen your ear is and how your descriptions paint such a clear & vivid picture, so that folks can also ‘hear’ the fine print in the vast genre of Kpop! 🎶 🫶🏽 🎤💕
All 3 main vocalists are brilliant for different reasons. For me, Baekhyun has a more polished sound. Then D.O. has the soul/emotion. Last but certainly not least, Chen has the ridiculous range. When you combined them with the rest of the boys, you get something special. And that’s what Exo is to me - special.

Great commentary. I'm Baekhyun biased myself so ofc theres bias lol but i agree in terms of soulful is Kyungsoo largely because of the naturally deeper tone. When i first heard him speak I was surprised at how deep his voice was. I do lobe Baekhyun's vocals too, he hits higher ranges often and is more often compared to higher range female singers of RnB. Honestly speaking, I'd love Baek to delve more into rock or punk since his voice would be PERFECTION for it (and those are my fav genres haha), but he and EXO made me expand my horizons to RnB that isn't just what i grew up with in childhood

I feel emotions when I listen to Baekhyun's voice. It always gives me that feeling whether it's high, low or mid tone. I never get bored of his music. I love Baekhyun's rnb style since I don't like to choose songs that stay in the same tone until the end. Baekhyun always reflects more than one emotion. I like this very much.
Honestly, I heard all Baekyun songs, even his live singing, but they didn't have the WOW factor for me. Maybe his voice is generic? like the other K-pop idols that I heard before. So if you ask me who has the essence of SOUL/R&B, it's D.O. For me, you can listen to his voice when you can't sleep or are depressed.

I love your analysis and just wanted to say EXO are the group who introduced me to Kpop. "Tempo" caught my attention but "Mama" hooked me in...:) I love many genres of music but there was just something about EXO that made me feel wrapped in a warm soft blanket. Now I understand why...those smooth creamy vocals are just too good. As you were talking about Jongho and Kihyun and the others...I have a better understanding as to what I enjoy most about them too. Every one with those golden voices you mentioned were from many of my favorite groups LOL...I now have a long list that expands beyond Korea into other world pop music...Ppop, Tpop, Vpop, Qpop, Cpop...Usher has that kind of voice too...mmm so good. :)
This is like choosing between your 2 parents. I love my EXO men esp the holy vocal trinity, but when it comes to soul, I'll give it to Doh Kyungsoo coz my man Baekhyun is very particular about technicality that it sometimes overpowers the 'soulness' of the song. But I really wish Chen would sing more RnB just like in Sweet Lies.

Tone + Agility/Mobility + Soul, these three are the ingredients for a good rnb sound, then add in an adequate range and unique skillet, you'll have a voice fitting for almost any genre-thats D.O. for you. He sounds good in foreign languages too.
I grew up listening to R&B/Soul and was pleasantly surprised to hear how soulful Korean singers could be once I got into K-Pop. This was even before Exo. I listened to artists such as Urban Zakapa and Brown Eyed Soul. I was also a huge Big Bang fan at the time. I find an interesting contrast in that. To me, Daesung always had a more soulful voice than Taeyang although Taeyang’s preferred singing style was more R&B. Fast track many years later, I discovered Exo and fall in love because they encapsulated everything I had loved from those older groups and more. However, I feel the same way with D.O. and Baekhyun as I do with Daesung and Taeyang. Even though Baekhyun’s preferred music style is R&B, I still think D.O. sounds more soulful than him. D.O. doesn’t even sing that style of music but when you listen to his music, you can still hear soulful emotion in his voice and can’t help but to be moved. He is the only member that has made me cry due to their voice and the way they sung something.
😳 you just made me remember that I was supposed to add Daesung and Taeyang to the list. I had pre-planned it from the beginning but I forgot. I agree D.O. and Baekhyun have a similar contrast to Daesung and Taeyang. I got into Big Bang rather late, but when I started listening to them I noticed the same thing with Dae and Tae.

When I heard his voice first I'm amaze cause I never heard a western RnB voice in kpop.. there's a lot of RnB artist in 1st and 2nd gen but d.o is the only one can sing with right pronunciation,diction and vowel in every word not only in Korean but in different languages he sing it's just super clear that no one think his Korean.

Yes! Exactly Anne. I was blown away when I heard D.O. for the first time in what is love. I always say, it was SHINee that introduced me to K-pop, but it was EXO that locked me in and solidified me as a fan of K-pop and D.O. played a huge role in that for me.

Thank you for this! Really well done and spot on! I grew up on RnB, Soul and Gospel before branching out. But I didn't get into kpop until last year because of D.O.'s kdramas and then his singing. He blew my mind with his smooth honey raspy voice and all that soulful skill! Chen eventually became my bias because of his power, precision, blessed range and heart. But all EXO members wreck me for various reasons. Baekhyun just has so much RnB passion. D.O. does too, but it's like he's also got Soul in his soul. And you can hear soulful elements in everything he does, even when he goes Ed Sheeran style. He brought it when he did Spot with Zico too! And his solo work, his Empathy album is chef's kiss. Thanks again!

can not agree more with you.. i like the three of them. but Kyungsoo voice is just........mmmh... until now, i haven't heard korean singer that have similar RnB soul, style and tone as Kyungsoo except Yoo Young Jin (his vocal coach, the king of korean RnB).. if you perhaps watch many Kyungsoo's fancon fancams where he cover snippet of many songs without music... geeez... i swear you will fall deeper to his voice.
his voice is so full, warm, and delicate like hot/warm chocolate. from the examples you said that have same style as D.O. i personally none of them have the similar soul/sound/style like him.
but for Baekhyun... i agree with you. he could easily sing RnB soul song perfectly with his amazing riffs and run. but maybe D.O.'s vocal tone and how effortlessly hi sing and do riffs and run is what made D.O. is a soulfull RnB singer i think.
i found some singer who have similar tone and singing style like Baekhyun that is Changsub of BTOB. at the 1st time i heard him sing on their killing voice.. i said to my self.. that he is the Byun Baekhyun of BTOB. he has tha most similar voice, tone and style with Baekhyun. and for Kyungsoo and maybe i can say Chen too.. i haven't found the Doh Kyungsoo and the Chen of other boygroup/soloist so far (from any singer i've heard) in term of their vocal tone and style.

He just needs to open his mouth, and he releases that natural sound filled with deep emotions. I also love Byun Baekhyun. But there is just something about Kyungsoo's voice that reaches the depth of your soul. Kyungsoo is currently doing an Asian Fanconcert. There's a clip of him singing John Legend's 'All of Me' at the recent Malaysian fancon. He brought that song to life!!! His runs were ridiculous, I had to replay it. Check it out and enjoy! 🙏🏽

I do not love him any less than Kyungsoo. I honestly listen to his solo music regularly ever since. But as an American, growing up around the genre soul and R&B, in the country it originated, I can see what the creator of this video is trying to convey. I may not be a vocal coach, but I grew up singing in choir at school and church since young. I played a few instruments in my youth and took dance (ballet, tap, jazz, Lyrical, hip-hop, cultural) for over 10 years. I may not be an expert, but I think I have experienced enough of the arts and music world to make a fair judgment that is not totally unreasonable. There is no need to put down the creator of this video or others for praising Doh Kyungsoo on having a unique vocal sound. And we shouldn't make it a point to discredit others who share the love for music. I appreciate that you feel passionate and have the need to praise Baekhyun. He is a blessing and talent that deserves so much praise and recognition. No one is denying that. But from a general audience perspective that grew up on soul r&b like Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Whiteney Houston, James Brown, Jackson 5, Brian McKnight, Boys II Men, Motown artists, etc...that old school sound... 100% agree, all the opinions here about D.O and Baek same as what i thought with no doubt. I listen Kpop since Gen 2. And im a big fan of BigBang. But since MADE album, i try to listen another group song for random & casually and led me to song called "Tell me what is love" ft Yoo young jin without knowing EXO before (even my sister mentioning EXO for so many times, just like i never move on from BigBang since than) this sing slap me hard and made me thrilled with those kind vocal technique. Since than i really love every song that he sang and introduced me to EXO . till now EXO and BigBang has special place in my heart especially D.O's vocal

As a black EXOL, I can only say that you nailed it. I literally grew up on R n B and i discovered D.O. first and he introduced me to EXO. I love every single one of these gifted lovely boys. But my bias will always be D.O. because his voice touches my soul. His voice is warm, velvelty and so much more. I love Baek too btw. And i support all of them on their solo work because if course i fell in love wth EXO. I am waiting for a BaekSoo collab and a D.O. RnB album. These have been my wishes since i became a fan in 2014. Hope it happens very soon.

I grew up on R&B/Soul and my fav vocalists in kpop are D.O., Baekhyun, Chen, Jonghyun (RIP), and Wendy because they all have soulful voices. My ults are D.O. and Wendy. They just know how to add those riffs and runs and emotions that I love in R&B vocalists.
I love your vocal lineup so much, and you included our bling bling Jonghyun in it. They really are amazing vocalists. Definitely need to talk about Chen and Jonghyun in a video for sure.

I cut it to the bridge when Jonghyun belts the noona part and then Key and Onew throw in their beautiful vocals only to end it with Jjong belting need a replay and I want a replay! Heaven to my ears! I think the proof of how soulful Kyungsoo's voice is in how we can still feel it even when he's not singing R&B song. Like how could he sing pop & we could still feel it is soulful ??? He's unbelievable.

Actually, I preferred D.O. Voice. I really like how he sings. If he covers a song that I've never paid attention to before, if he covers it, that's the time I appreciate it, like Love Wins by IU. I don't know how many times I played that video. Hehehe. I can't explain much of his voice, like when he sings, you literally stop the time and listen to his fucking good voice.

If you're a old EXO-L, you've heard Kyungsoo's R&B singing in full glory. He went more acoustic pop style lately, but not in the past. His formation as a singer started with R&B and Korean Ballad
It's D.O and Taeil for me. Their voices are so 90's r&b you can just tell they grew up immersed in singing it.
Love Taeil too. He is my NCT 127 bias. He feel like he is a mix of D.O. and Chen for me - soulful with a ridiculous range. Wish he was utilized more.

To me DO's voice is like salt to a perfectly done recipe, he adds taste. DO's voice can make EXO's amazing overall vocals, perfect. Everytime I hear him, I feel what he sings about, without understanding korean. He sings emotions. For example, I loved the Obsession album, and I loved the side tracks Baby you are and Ya ya ya, but I couldn't help myself from thinking DO would have rocked this or that part. He would have added that extra oomph.
It’s a really beautiful description. Guess that’s what they mean by music being a universal language, even if we don’t understand Korean, we still feel the same emotions as when someone of our native tongue sings. That is the power of music and gifted voices.

You're right about D.O, I've seen the odd video of vocal coach reacting to D.O, having to revamp parts of the video and put it on at a slower speed to point out riff And Runs so fast that they say "it's just that people who don't understand music or don't have a good ear go unnoticed or as something normal when it's very difficult to do, it comes naturally to her and that is because she knows how to control the air very well and help herself with her whole body not only with her throat) that's why there are stupid people Who come to say that he doesn't sing 🤣🤣🤣 that he does not force himself enough and has no idea, what he stops looks simple and that he does not "force" many others find it difficult to do it and that a singer does not have to force himself because it can even be harmful, they believe that if they do not scream or the veins of their neck are not seen it is not Sings
You know that Kyungsoo is the King of the genre and the standard when, despite the fact that other singers have made albums in RnB or have a lot of songs in that genre, everyone demands that KS sing it, to all those who sing the genre everyone compare them to him, that cannot be denied, no matter how much they want to... there are voices that adapt because they are agile and there are others that were Born to sing it, as simple as that 🤷

I love them both and have listened to them live in concerts this year; they are both incredible vocalists. In Exo songs, they often sing the same parts of the song at different times, and for the most parts both pull them off equally well. I have seen fancams of Kyungsoo singing Baekyun's UN Village, and it's just not the same 😅 I guess likewise if Baekhyun ever covers one of Kyungsoo's solo songs. As much as I love Baekyun though, Kyungsoo's voice is just on another level for me. Eternally hoping he will do an R&B song (or album!) at some point, but I am very happy with whatever genre he puts out anyway.

I love both these guys and I would agree. Based on the sound of there voices, D.O is more R&B. I find it interesting that his solo music tends to be more pop than R&B. Baekhyun is very versatile. I think he is the most versatile singer I have heard. He lives in that R&B genre.
Also, I was very happy to see Yonghoon mentioned in the video. I absolutely love his voice and I wish more people would talk about him.

Grew up with R&B, old school motown. & guess who's my bias in EXO? Yeap, that very person in my profile pic. Though personally, I wouldn't say he didn't get his voice thru practice. During debut period, he said his fav vocalist was Wanya Morris from Boyz ii men. So he probably osmosized that soul into him already, lol~ As for Baek, to me, he's a straight up crooner. As much as I'm glad they are delving into their personal music interests, I'll love to hear BH try more ballads cos that's the genre I feel he touches me most in. & likewise, Kyungsoo does pop equally well but he's honed his R&B skills since young & that has already been inbuilt into him so it's gonna be a waste if he doesn't do a full out R&B album at least once (though he did say he's thinking of trying R&B in his next album, so fingers crossed!).

Yes that’s exactly it. It’s not about high or low vocal registers and hitting certain notes, it’s about their distinctive voices and vocal styles. If either of them sang each other’s parts, it would still sound good, it just wouldn’t hit the same.

I think D.O really captures R&B Soul so much and i actually love his solo albums bevause its so different from the usual EXO sound and is very much folk pop acoustic mixed with some R&B (especially his firsf album). For me, I would associate the three EXO main vocals with three different genres. Baekhyun - Pop or Pop R&B, Chen - Soul Ballad or K-Ballad, D.O. - R&B Soul or Folk Pop

I think Kyungsoo has a more soulful voice, it's seriously BEAUTIFUL! But I'm more drawn to Baekhyun as a singer. He just engages me more emotionally somehow? Not that I'm never touched by D.O.'s singing, but in general. It's like Kyungsoo's voice is almost too perfect to me?
What I like about Baekhyun is not necessarily his polished techniques or high notes, but his mid range, his versatility and when he sings 'sweetly'.
To me D.O's voice is more cool and clear, like water, while Baekhyun's voice is like warm sand and has a bit more fire and sparks to it.
I'm Baekhyun biased, he's literally my favorite vocalist and singer ever, but fighting about the fact Kyungsoo has the most r&b voice is ridiculous, literally his voice is like made of pure soul...Everytime I hear his voice he gives me those r&b and funk vibes!!
On the other hand, Idk if I'm the only one but when it comes to Baekhyun he gives me those old jazzy vibes (ofc not talking just about the tecnique he uses but his tone of voice as well), for me his voice is very sweet and jazzy, too delicate but at the same time powerful... I don't know how to explain 😅

i grew up listening to great ballads and rock ballads. so i prefer Chen's music and singing style/technique. Baekhyun and Kyungsoo are amazing in their own styles too. they chose the style of music they want and pulled them off perfectly.

I started writing 7 times.. I didn’t know which to praise first; your multifaceted vibrant commentary or praise for the artist!! There’s a quote in the Tina Turner movie where Ike Turner told Tina to ‘put some stank on it’ referring to making the song more soulful and spicy, much like Sista SoInSo who leads the praise team on Sunday Morning! It’s effortless! That said when D.O. opens his mouth to sing, it’s raw. He doesn’t sing.. HE SANG. Whereas Baekhyun has (to me) a more ‘Sophisticated Smooth R&B’ sound. It’s funny I immediately thought about the Big Band era sound of ‘Amusement Park’ by Baekhyun and asked myself ‘Would this song qualify for R & B?’ My favorite is ‘Bungee’.. I LOVE ALL 3 of EXO’s gifted vocalist! Auntie so loves how keen your ear is and how your descriptions paint such a clear & vivid picture, so that folks can also ‘hear’ the fine print in the vast genre of Kpop! 🎶 🫶🏽 🎤💕
All 3 main vocalists are brilliant for different reasons. For me, Baekhyun has a more polished sound. Then D.O. has the soul/emotion. Last but certainly not least, Chen has the ridiculous range. When you combined them with the rest of the boys, you get something special. And that’s what Exo is to me - special.

Great commentary. I'm Baekhyun biased myself so ofc theres bias lol but i agree in terms of soulful is Kyungsoo largely because of the naturally deeper tone. When i first heard him speak I was surprised at how deep his voice was. I do lobe Baekhyun's vocals too, he hits higher ranges often and is more often compared to higher range female singers of RnB. Honestly speaking, I'd love Baek to delve more into rock or punk since his voice would be PERFECTION for it (and those are my fav genres haha), but he and EXO made me expand my horizons to RnB that isn't just what i grew up with in childhood

I feel emotions when I listen to Baekhyun's voice. It always gives me that feeling whether it's high, low or mid tone. I never get bored of his music. I love Baekhyun's rnb style since I don't like to choose songs that stay in the same tone until the end. Baekhyun always reflects more than one emotion. I like this very much.

Honestly, I heard all Baekyun songs, even his live singing, but they didn't have the WOW factor for me. Maybe his voice is generic? like the other K-pop idols that I heard before. So if you ask me who has the essence of SOUL/R&B, it's D.O. For me, you can listen to his voice when you can't sleep or are depressed.

"Tempo" caught my attention but "Mama" hooked me in...:) I love many genres of music but there was just something about EXO that made me feel wrapped in a warm soft blanket. Now I understand why...those smooth creamy vocals are just too good. As you were talking about Jongho and Kihyun and the others...I have a better understanding as to what I enjoy most about them too. Every one with those golden voices you mentioned were from many of my favorite groups LOL...I now have a long list that expands beyond Korea into other world pop music...Ppop, Tpop, Vpop, Qpop, Cpop...Usher has that kind of voice too...mmm so good. :)
This is like choosing between your 2 parents. I love my EXO men esp the holy vocal trinity, but when it comes to soul, I'll give it to Doh Kyungsoo coz my man Baekhyun is very particular about technicality that it sometimes overpowers the 'soulness' of the song. But I really wish Chen would sing more RnB just like in Sweet Lies.
You got me hyped with this comment. I so agree with you, I think Chen could definitely do an amazing soul/R&B album. I would flip out if he did that, with vocals like his, he could pull it off so well.
@@moonlight_antonio exactly. Every time he announces a CB, I'd really pray that he would include RnB coz he has that sensual RnB voice. I dunno if these men just made a deal among themselves that their solos should each have a specific music genre niche or Chen really just wanted to be the patron saint of ballads. I am still hopeful tho.
