This brought me back to my childhood playing this and the only video game my Dad actually took interest in, he liked Terry Pratchett style humor and would watch me play. Both my parents have long since passed away but this reminded me of ol pops. Bittersweet feelings but thanks for the upload.
Eric Idle (Monty Python) and Tony Robinson (Blackadder's Baldrick) are in this hilarious masterpiece of 1990's adventure games. The humor is excellent =D
I remember playing this as a kid and being frustrated as most of the convo went right over my head. Now as a fully literate adult I still find it bonkers.
One of - it not the best - literary creations ever. All those wonderful characters and the marvelous world, had to believe we'll ever see another writer like Sir Terry Pratchett.
LOL. Me too. I played it on my brothers playstation, and I would get stuck on puzzles for hours. Then after my brain started hurting, I just played Resident Evil. LOL
Haha me too!! Me and my sister used to play this for hours on the PC!! We never got to the dragon!! So I have no idea how it ends! Watching now and looking forward to it!! 😊
I think I might have liked to play that game too. Rincewind is usually my least favourite character of the books, but in this case I love him, because it's Eric Idle.
And this was the game that had to have Jon Pertwee (3rd doctor) in it. How ironic since the doctor meets with Eric and Tony in this one (there were rumors for the 8th doctor was to be played by Eric Idle)
This is a lot of fond memories on top of fond memories, mixed with a kind of sadness. It's all overall good, but I lack the words to make things suitably "bittersweet".
This game is amazing, this should come to the Nintendo Switch. Discworld was very advanced for its time on the PC. I just watched the first 20 minutes of it and I'm very entertained, that this came out when I was a newborn.
I never cared about this game when I was young. Even if I did, there was no way for me get it. I do now regret not playing this game and its sequel. Same with Simon the Sorceress 1 and 2. This is just pure comedy gold 6 hours STRAIGHT. Also I love how this game gives you effect texts for hitting sounds.
I caught myself thinking "if ever they do a live-action Rincewind, Eric is perfect" and then remembered David Jason doing his level best in that godawful Colour of Magic adaptation. Fuck _me_ but that was something else. My brain forgot out of self-defence.
While he was a good actor in that sub par adaption, I also thought he was too old for Rincewind. (I also pictured Twoflower as the Japanese tourist stereotype and not the American tourist stereotype like Sean Astin did). Then again, my intro to Discworld back in the 90's was this game, so he's a redhead to me. And whenever I read the books, I hear Eric Idle's voice as Rincewind. Eric Idle would have been too old too, but yeah, Rincewind will always be Eric Idle to me.
@@noirakita428 When I read the books I started picturing Twoflower looking like a stereotypical German tourist. So the Twoflower in the movie didn't seem like such a bad choice.
I don't think the Discworld can really do live-action adaptations well; it's just too literary-based and full of pun(e)s that only really work in text form. I need to try the animations though.
Wow, I just discovered the book series a couple days ago and now I am finding all of this great shit to learn. I have to read the many books, and now I have to play the game!
Have you watched the animated series? Search on discwold wyrd sisters and Discworld soul music, there are other games like discworld noir, and discworld the second game mortality bites, and I also think there is an live action thing too
@@jayamilapersson4030 There's a live action version of Colour of Magic, too. As well as Going Postal. there's also Troll bridge, which is really good, too. Terry Pratchett had a hand in writing that, but passed away just before the script was finalized.

Legends and there video games be loved and true to our heart and also legends never die and neither does our love for the games and voices and legends.
I still have the box and CDs for this game and the sequel. Music is a bit loud here though. I find it funny that whoever is doing the voices of the two characters in the alleyway in the beginning are really doing a decent job at imitating a drunk Dudley Moore and a young sounding Michael Cain.
what's up with the drum beats and the triangle tings? I looked up the soundtrack and it seems there's a little bit of a bug with those in this walkthrough.
I legitimately thought I broke the game or the disc was scratched at the "repetitive creatures" bit and keep going. Then i got the joke as rincewind gave in lol
I'm a bit stuck at the moment. I'm trying to get the glass of counterwise wine from the bartender (around 56:00) and all the guides say just talk to the bartender and he'll give me some. But all he ever says for me is "you'll need money if you want to buy a drink". I've tried examining the green bottle behind him first and attempting both in the past and the present and I still can't get my glass. Has anybody else had this problem?
I've seen a lot of things saying the puzzles don't make any sense, and in a way that is true... And while I doubt I could have figured out the puzzles myself, if you know the desired result, all the information you need is in the books... Just follow discworld logic :D
I wanted to play this game again and was able to find a website to play online, but it broke at 2:51:30 and wouldn't let me go up the stairs :( I'd make it to them, but then am told to "shut up and sit down" again
Can I ask how you got the sound so good? Do you play it in dosbox? I tried both dosbox and scummvm, but didn't get the (midi?)sound sounding as good as in this video. I have the original CD version of the game. I do get music, but it sounds as if it uses a primitive midi-device or somethign like that. :-(
Possibly using a 20 year old computer? They're not hard to find and are often the best way to get the sound and graphics the way the game was intended to have.
@@Here_is_Waldo In the meanwhile I figured out that dosbox itself does not do a good job on emulating advanced midi sound. Using something as VirtualMIDISynth in combination woth Dosbox will give you MUCH better sound, just like in this video!
GreatBigRanz There were several recurring main characters in the Discworld books. The first one was Rincewind; Vimes came later. You kinda needed humor for point-and-click games or peope would eventually get bored. The humor is why certain ones are considered such classics.
Rob Brydon too, Jon Pertwee, and I swear I hear Phil Cornwell in some characters but he's not in the credits.
