This all such important information that all parents/ families should have access to and information IRC should be providing to their families but unfortunately that is not the case. We as advocates for our children have to comb through so much misinformation to find what we’re looking for. I unfortunately have not had a good experience with IRC and I believe it’s because I’m an informed consumer and a fierce advocate for my 14 month child. Knowledge is power. The less you know (educated) the more power they (IRC) hold over you. The more you know the less BS they can sell you. Bravo! Thank you again Ellen. Thank you for this wonderful information. After watching this I am evaluating our relationship with the northern regional center. I recently found out about the self determination program through conversations with a bay area regional center. We were exploring housing option alternatives that would give our son more opportunity to socialize. When I mentioned it to my sons case manager she was visibly distressed. On a subsequent call she elaborated on a variety of issues trying to dissuade me from going that route. I think she was worried about the complexities transfering our son to another regional center where more housing options exist. She offered up SLS which was never offered before despite ongoing issues with loneliness. I realize now I need to be a very informed consumer. Unfortunately trust doesn't get you that far all by itself.
The Regional Center is the organization that took possession of the disabled populations' ADA rights and withholds them so county investors can commit Federal Insurance fraud. They use their prejudice to decide what disability services you get and how decent to treat you. These services are given without discrimination in schools and hospitals. However, Because of the Regional Center my child has lost her disability rights all together. She has been bullied out of her IEP and services she would have access to if we didn't live in California, where this disease started.
