Thanks for the insight details about the programme. Would it be possible to share about the course length? Can we finish this degree within three years as mentioned on the website?
Hi - yes the minimum duration is 3 years. I have heard that quite a number of people decide to stay for 4 years to give them more time to finish their research, but if you're done in time this is not necessary (and if you do this, you need to pay for the extra time you take).
Hello :) how many days a week do you have placements and do you learn other modalities of therapy such as ACT? I heard that the counselling doctorate mainly teaches CBT and person centred therapy
My first year was one day placement but it is normal to have two. We are taught psychodynamic, CBT, systemic, and person-centered. Sometimes special groups can be formed if there is appropriate staff to support them for example we may be doing a schema therapy supervision group this year. If you find an ACT placement you can learn that way but I don't think you would get lectures on it at university at length. More specialised training can be achieved through the placements.
Yes, in the UK it’s mainly different because of the training and funding options. There is a lot of overlap and jobs will usually be open to both rather than one. I could do a video but it’s been done a few times!
It’s been tougher than when I worked in tech for sure, before I left that career. I did take out the Doctoral Loan that the government supplies, but that doesn’t even cover all the tuition fees so finances are still a hurdle to overcome I’m afraid.
I am in the process of submitting my PhD Psychology application to City University. i am excited about the course. Thanks for clarification
Great video. I’m looking to do a doctoral degree in counselling psychology after my counselling training. Hope 2nd year treats you well!

Thank you for the insight. I’m from India and planning to go the same path as you ❤

Is counselling psychology similar to clinical psychology?

@@Marios_CG please do a video on this! Id love to know your perspective
are there many mature students doing it? thanks
About half are early-mid twenties or mid-thirties and older. Other half are late twenties to mid thirties.
Did you struggle with living costs since you only worked part time outside of the counselling psychology doctorate?
