  • Kia Niro EV - Winner of the JD Power Award for Best EV Ownership Experience Among Mass Market Battery Electric Vehicles in the USA. This versatile crossover now produces 201hp with 291 pound feet of torque. Range exceeds 385km or 239miles - Watch now to learn more!
    UPDATE on Braking regeneration - I've had several owners contact me to share that their brake lights do work during braking regeneration when using the steering wheel paddle shifters. During my week with the Niro, I did not experience this, maybe do to a sense failure, I'm not sure. But prior to developing and filming any car review, I test and test and test again. If you can during your test drive, have a family member or friend follow you, to watch for the brake lights working.

    I have a top trim 2019 Kia Niro EV which I purchased new September 2019. I live in Surrey B.C. Canada and I have had the Guess o meter read 572 Km range a few times. During that time I reset the trip odometer and was able to achieve a driving distance of 510 Kms on a single charge with mainly city driving. I recently took it up to Kelowna B.C. in September 2021. I left Surrey with a 100% charge and reached Kelowna with 20% remaining on the battery with an estimated range of 70 Kms. The total driving distance was 350 Kms (almost 4 hours driving) which was highway driving with lots of hills to climb. The regen was set to level 3 but I used the adaptive cruise control most of the journey. On my 2019 the brake lights do illuminate with the use of the brake regen. This vehicle not only met my expectations it far exceeds them. I also own a 2005 Mustang V-6 and I would much rather drive the Kia to places like Kelowna and Princeton.

      Hi!
      Very good to read yor positive experience with this wonderful crossover.
      After a few months useing this car, I realized that man has to look on the current consume, and the battery status instead of the "guess o meter" . I was doing a 1700 km 2 days trip in may whit different kind of weather conditions and speed (mostly 130 on motorways) wet road and high speed push up the consum to 20-21 kW/h/100km. My average is 16-17 kW/h/100km and my best is 11-12.
      I just want to say that at 20% and 70 km guessed remaining km can very easily turn to 30 km and "turtle mode". So always think 2x and plan your trip. 🖖

      @derrellnicholls7438 2 года назад +1

      @@krisztianbazsik4814 I have pretty much the same experience as you. When I had that 70 km left on the G.O.M. i was on flat ground with no incline for a few kms. If i was to go uphill it would most definitely drop quickly. I do the same I go by battery status mainly. My average Kwh/100 km is the same as your results. I try to keep my speed about 110 Kmh if the speed limit is 120 Kmh. Our maximum highway speed here is 120 Kmh but most highways are 100 Kmh. I have not had it in turtle mode yet but I have had the low battery warning light on. Our experiences are about the same with this vehicle.

    Thanks for a great review from across the pond of a car we’ve owned since March 2019, first batch to come into France. Have covered over 50,000 km and driven to UK a couple of times and Switzerland. Rapid charging on long trips is getting better and lots of free power at supermarkets. The build quality seems really good and at least on a par with some German brands I have owned. So far a practical comfortable car that costs pennies to run

    2020 Niro EX Premium in New Hampshire USA. My brake lights come on during regen. My car will not come to a complete stop ever. It only comes to a crawl. I have to pull the lever to make it completely stop or use the brakes. I have gotten a consistent 300 miles in the summer with little use of AC. I have several pics of my car charging and showing , 302, 303, 307and 309. These are miles. I feel this car is exceptional especially at the price.

      Problem with towing is that car company has a choice to take car the somekind of sertification test for towing, and I am sure e-niro would get good results, but Kia never took the test, they didn't want the car owners to tow, to stress the powertrain, it could cause more expensive warranty repairs, to avoid those repairs, no towing.

    Good all-round review, thanks. It's the first I've seen from North America that doesn't moan about wheelspin when pulling away! The answer, leadfoots, is use a less sporty mode and/or less throttle. In UK cars, regen works down to about 5mph, then you can come to a complete stop either by using the friction brakes or by holding the left paddle down which, I think, uses some reverse current in the motor. It will then hold the car at stop. Finally, does anyone else think it crazy that you can't preheat the car when plugged in? Surely the point is to use mains electricity to do this, and not waste battery charge and lose range! Are you sure this is right? I've not tried mine yet, btw.

Too bad, however, that the autonomy is not very big and if you use heat, air conditioning or radio, it decreases quite a lot. Anyway, the exterior is very good. Exclusive model for the family. As for charging, I prefer slow charging so I say increase battery life. The future is electric. In Europe, in Norway this type of propulsion is very sought after to the detriment of hybrid cars. find the first place in Europe in terms of loading infrastructure. Morning Paul, thanks for watching. There is nothing loud about the Kia Niro EV. And if you're referring to the "Virtual Engine Sound System" it's pretty standard. I didn't notice much difference between the Mini EV, Audi e-tron or Niro I test drove. Thanks again for watching. Juliana
