The Weird Leapster Sonic The Hedgehog Games
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 15 сен 2024
- Sonic The Hedgehog had two very weird games for LeapFrog consoles, mainly for the original Leapster and the LeapFrog Didj. So today on Stuff We Play, let's go into the history of these odd Sonic games, and ultimately decide: are they fun?

Next video out should be my documentary on Sonic Xtreme's development, including developer interviews, of course!

I feel like they shoulda tried a math-based Sonic edutainment game for a slightly older audience, and called it "Sonic (Solve For) X"
This is my favourite comment so far
@Stuff We Play Did you know that Sonic 06 or Sonic Next Gen was the worst??
When I was a tiny stupid little girl I saw a shit ton of commercials for the didj and leapster consoles and saw these 2 sonic games in stores, I really wanted the didj and sonic because I could catch a glimpse of him running through hydro city zone in the commercials and got really excited because I thought it was like a portable version of the classic games or something, I kept begging my parents to buy me one of them but they kept telling me no, I'm glad they didn't looking back, it was the one good thing they've ever done parenting wise
"Sonic The Hedgehog for the DIDJ"
*HIS WORLD midi starts playing*
Omg that would've been amazing
@@StuffWePlay Where Is The New Video
I loved my didj when I was a kid, and I had the Sonic game for it! For some reason the didj version has made itself my favorite version of the game,,,, maybe because I liked that lil obscure handheld so much lol
That's really cool that you actually had this one as a kid! Legit, I think nostalgia is a powerful thing :)
@@StuffWePlay I actually still own it! It doesn't work anymore, unfortunately, but I'm currently holding it and it still has the sonic cartridge in it LOL
@@BasilSquid It may be worth keeping it around still! I'm debating doing a video on different systems I can run DOOM on - and it just so happens that the Didj can both run DOOM and a version of Linux!
It's probably due to the not-directly-being-recorded-from-the-console situation, but I think the graphics of the Leapster Sonic game look pretty cool :O
And that's as far as my praise will go LOL.
Great video as always! Another well-polished and well-paced video. I always find your voice really calming to listen to as well. :)
Just saw this! Thank you so much! Im really glad you enjoyed it :)
I’m not surprised that Sega would have no idea that these games existed. But it’s cool to see the Didj Sonic game in action; I didn’t know there was a console bundle pack with the Sonic game!
And don’t worry about Sonic’s Schoolhouse, you’ll be able to dive deep into that game soon enough. :p
please don't make me play sonic's schoolhouse
Stuff We Play MWAHAHAHA
I mean if I was SEGA I'd probably want to forget half the things I did with Sonic too xD.
Never forget what happened in '06
Yes, it's finally here!
It only took me around a year to do so! haha
I got a ps3 320gb with GTAV for $35! I missed gaming since 2014
Great deal dude!
Well this was something.
Didn't expect the Digi game to look like that tbh
Same here! I initially expected something more in line with the original Leapster game
Hot Take:
I don’t hate the Sonic X Leapster Graphics. I kinda like them tbh. For 2005, I honestly don’t think it’s that bad, and it’s pretty stylized.
At least there are animated cutscenes with voice acting and not stills of characters with text bubbles, and that’s pretty impressive for Leapster lol.
Sonic chronicles dark brotherhood is far worse than sonic on leapster and didj.
*Sees Sonic video*: Well time ti watch
*Sees educational*: mAtH

I learned about leapster more from this video than from years of using it as a little kid. ( had flashbacks when heard that voice around the 6th minute especially funny since I didn know english back then )
Sonic X on Leapster was my first ever Sonic game. I’m not kidding
Some info: Leapster2 is backwards compatible with all Leapster games (with some having Expanded Play for LS2, whatever that is)
Also, the Leapster Explorer (2010) is backwards compatible with Didj games (but not the LeapsterGS or the LeapPad tablets)
The leapster was my darn childhood. I remember playing pet pals day after day when I was 4.
That Didj game reminds me of those super early Flash/Klik'n Play fangames.
I definitely see it!
I cant wait for Sonic to help me learn good
Stupid sonic boi couldn't even make I more smarter
Torus games made a lot more than just Leapster games and is still around and developing games for the publisher Outright Games to great sales success to this day.
They also used to be one of Activision’s Go-To studios for GBA development (the other being Vicarious Visions) and developed many GBA titles for them including DOOM 2, Duke Nukem Advance, and MANY Marvel games.
Finally someone talked about this. Thank you!
Great job on this video! I knew this existed but didn't know much about it. I feel more educated on the suckiness of this. So thank you. lol
I'm glad I could help haha
2:56 It actually came out in 2004.
It's sad to see most Leapsters were beat up by little kids
As a adult I agree with what u said , as a 5 year old kid playing this I didn’t give a shit
My first personal game system was a Leapster LMax in 2006.
Oh neat!
Stuff We Play Unfortunately, it was taken up by a teacher a couple months after I got it and I didn’t tell my parents for 10 years because I felt that bad about it.
I think I still have the cable that allows it to connect to the TV though.
Sonic Schoolhouse is basically Sonic in Baldi's Basics
The Leapster Sonic X ost is kind of fire though.
Honestly, using a Leapfrog as an emulator sounds pretty cool for a young kid
Like I'm sure a 4 year old would enjoy Kirby or something but I don't want them to break my old GBA
I actually remember playing that leapster game from some random kid I met at a party for my moms boyfriend’s niece’s birthday a long time ago, I remember playing it for awhile since I was a dumb kid who liked sonic as apposed to a dumb adult who just doesn’t blindly like sonic
I used to play sonic x on the leapster and it was so much fun for little me
Nice shoutout to Sonic Pocket Adventure.
Thank you!
I wonder if the creation of those games has something to do with the chairman of LeapFrog being the same man who made the Sega Genesis the success it was back when he was the president of Sega of America back in the 90's. I'm of course talking about Tom Kalinske.
While I'm sure that could've been a factor in getting Leapfrog and Sega in contact, at least for the first game, I think the creation of these games just had to do with LeapFrog trying to get as many kid-popular franchises as possible on their systems
Au contraire! Torus also developed the amazing port of DooM II for the GBA.
Oh sweet! I hadn't realized that they were behind that port!
I think my friend's 4 year old would actually enjoy the sonic on the LeapFrog Didj, as horrible as it looks. she's learning how to spell at this point in her life. and every time she sees me playing sonic 1-3&knuckles on my xbox one s, she grabs my switch pro controller and tries to play along, then has a fit if I take sonic off to play something else
If you want to get her a great system with games that'll help her learn, I actually think the old Sega Picos are great for kids! The storybook-style game cartridges make them very intuitive for little kids!
Awesome video James!
Thank you tons!
Next time you show filmed handheld screen footage, try the stabilization filter of ffmpeg. It really helps with the hand movement resulting in the handheld shaking.
I'll keep that in mind, though hopefully I won't have to resort to this method of gameplay capture again anytime soon!
The didj isn’t a leapster model
I remember having a lightning mcqueen leapster with the sonic x game.
Nathaniel bandy: the leapster is the PlayStation 5
I Love Sonic Advance Series On Emulator
I Don't Have A GBA
3:17
God... the color, resolution, screen ratio AND that music lol I have no clue what that music even is BUT I remember almost every damn RUclips video in the late 2000s had that
@@lovelorn88nick That's Sandstorm by Darude, and it was absolutely EVERYWHERE! Glad you enjoyed that bit haha
The Weird Leapster Sonic The Hedgehog Games Version 4:3
I know they're old but I've been looking everywhere for reviews and comparisons for these things ...they just don't make much learning stuff for math 😩 ...my 7yr old really needs help in that so instead of giving him paper work I want to get him this and have him do at least 1hr a day of educational fun. I'm hoping he'll like it he has a switch 😭
Somebody knows where i can found mod information?
How many bits does this console have?
I actually have the av cables
You didn't even mention leapster explorer and leapster GX.
They didn't have sonic games released for them
I wasn't aware of that at the time.
I played the didij one
anyone else see the thumbnail and think it was a Billiam video
Lol I hope it doesn't look too similar! I've been trying to play around with my thumbnail style lately
Hey, how did you get a functioning Didj? Mine just tells me to connect it to a computer for a tune up.
I just found mine on the cheap on eBay!
actually the third worst, sonic 06 is second worst and sonic boom is the worst
Since you are doing edutainment videos, next one should be on the CDI garbage lol!
If I can get my hands on a CDi (which may happen at some point soon) I'd definitely do so!
