I heard this on the radio on a techno station. Never heard it before, but I really loved it. So I wrote down some of the lyrics and looked it up. Glad I did. I find now I like a LOT of The Faint songs, but this one is really good!
"Plastic Islands at Sea": The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, also described as the Pacific Trash Vortex, is a gyre of marine litter in the central North Pacific Ocean located roughly between 135°W to 155°W and 35°N and 42°N.[1] The patch extends over an indeterminate area, with estimates ranging very widely depending on the degree of plastic concentration used to define the affected area.
Hmm, I love The Faint. I remember seeing them live in 2002 when they were playing paranoiattack live. It was a very good capturing of the mood at the time.
Been absolutely addicted to these guys for about 5 years now. Finally seeing them live in August :D 'Bout time they played somewhere in the UK that ISN'T a tiny club in London.
Eyeballs float in wet green grass I got a chain saw motor That's filled with rain But when it sings like Bach The eyes all bulge Then when the pink sun drops The eyelids fold While I'm in deep REM sleep Or twilight zones I take a freight elevator And press fast forward I get to grind these teeth And peek through time If I could bring things back They'd feedback wild When I saw the future - the geeks were right Egghead boys With thin white legs They got modified features And software brains But that's what the girls like The geeks were right When I saw the future - the geeks were right Predator skills Chemical wars Plastic islands at sea Watch what the humans ruin With machines Eyeballs float in wet green grass I'm in a chainsaw choir In dreams that bend To let me cut through time And stretch out Bach I make the dry eyes roll And wet eyes cross While I'm in deep REM sleep Or twilight zones I take a freight elevator And press fast forward So I can grind these teeth And peek through time If I could bring things back They'd feedback wild And when I saw the future - the geeks were right
I interpret the song as mocking Transhumanism. It's saying that stuff like Ray Kurzweil's predictions of the future are mere fantasy and bullshit. However, the predictions of ecologists, such as Lovelock, about the environmental disaster accompanying technological "progress" is true. That's why the song is interspersed with nonsense and the only intelligible things are the parts about plastic in sea and chemical warfare destroying the earth... "Watch what the human destroyed with machines". Another way you can interpret is the fantasy becomes true and people waste time in virtual reality interfaces doing weird stuff... while everything goes to shit. I prefer the former interpretation.
Except that all prophesy is bullshit. I can take a guess that the 'sun is gonna come out tomorrow', but there will be a day when it will not. No one knows what is going to happen.
The lyrics to this song are so random, I love them! Especially at the beginning. For once there is a cool song where you can be singing a lot of messed up words and no one will tell you that you're singing it wrong. Then there ARE cohesive bits in here as well. "Watch what the humans ruin with machines." Indeed. Except I'm typing this on a machine. :p The Faint rocks!
...in all fairness,it's probably recorded from the mp3 stream of it thats on their site. (the video was out 3 weeks before the album was released...) Low quality Mp3 > another low quality mp3 > Video File > RUclips After being butchered like that what were you expecting, crystal clear sound?
What's the effect on his voice? Anyone know? Is it a kind of auto tune? It's a very unique effect and I'd like to use something similar on my next album.
I dont think you can say that to be honest, as its all down to personal opinion... I prefer the Remix, but thats cause it is more dubsteppy ... I still think the original is awesome tho.
wow, i loooove the bass in this song, i find that i am really diggin them until i here the vocals, not strong i think, and very synthesized... and btw...EgofTob, you did end your sentence with "is" :p lol

'Bout time they played somewhere in the UK that ISN'T a tiny club in London.

This song reminds me of "computer world" by Kraftwerk. That is a compliment.
THE GEEKS WERE RIGHT!
So addictive. :D
31 People rooted for the Alphas in ''Revenge of the Nerds''.

Predator skills Chemical wars Plastic islands at sea Watch what the humans ruin With machines Eyeballs float in wet green grass I'm in a chainsaw choir In dreams that bend To let me cut through time And stretch out Bach I make the dry eyes roll And wet eyes cross While I'm in deep REM sleep Or twilight zones I take a freight elevator And press fast forward So I can grind these teeth And peek through time If I could bring things back They'd feedback wild And when I saw the future - the geeks were right
I LOVE THIS SONG.

I wouldn't know about this song if it weren't for Numb3rs.
And as we've learned - they were right. :D

When i've first heard it back in the day, i've thought he was singing 'The Greeks were right' lol
These guys are great live- super fun
this band is full of awsomenesssss
this song is cool....the geeks were right
Calling people out on grammar while failing to properly construct your sentence is pretty classic. You never end a sentence with the word "is".
Something amazing!
Hell yeah software brains! The Future are belong to us the Geeks!
reminds me of the 80s even though it was recently released :)

"What what the humans ruin* with machines"
I thought it was about geeks from his high school days predicting current fashion and assimilation into tech
scientists discovered how mice react in under water mazes, while I'm in deep rem sleep. way to go
Except that all prophesy is bullshit. I can take a guess that the 'sun is gonna come out tomorrow', but there will be a day when it will not. No one knows what is going to happen.
Definitely look up some of their other stuff- Symptom Finger, Paranoiattack, Southern Belles of London Sing... it's amazing.
they are from my town! :DD
i found this band after i googld the lyrics that I heard
while watching Numb3ers xD
Makes me think of “Romantically Apocalyptic” every time I hear it.
yep yep

...in all fairness,it's probably recorded from the mp3 stream of it thats on their site. (the video was out 3 weeks before the album was released...)
Low quality Mp3 > another low quality mp3 > Video File > RUclips
After being butchered like that what were you expecting, crystal clear sound?
@PKrising24 Keep it that way. We don't need them mainstream.
What a lovely track! It sounds kinda familiar to me. Has this beem used in any big media I might have heard it in before?
Featured in "Numb3rs" TV series: Season 5 Episode 15 "First Law" Episode is very good. It's about AI research, Supercomputer, and humans.
Pretty sure it was in Mack Dawg Productions' Follow Me Around
You'd better bet the geeks are right.
Yeah, you're right actually. Not the chorus, obviously, but the 'verse'.
genau Audi vs GSX-R :D :D :D
Breaking your back just to know your name...

They play this song at the mana bar, just saying.
What's the effect on his voice? Anyone know? Is it a kind of auto tune? It's a very unique effect and I'd like to use something similar on my next album.
+Kerunou probly either a harmonizer effect or vocoder, both with good mixing/mastering
sounds like a short echo
double fuckin decade??
All your future are belong to Us.
I dont think you can say that to be honest, as its all down to personal opinion... I prefer the Remix, but thats cause it is more dubsteppy ... I still think the original is awesome tho.

For me it sounds a bit like the killers' somebody told me.
Enjoy people, it's only music lol
This album i love, but Danse Macabre album is much better in my opinion.
Yeah, Danse Macabre might be a little better, Blank Wave Arcade is easily their best.
^^uh pot calling kettle black (its spelled handicapped)
7 people weren't right.
8 people are geeks that were wrong.
...Jeez, that was stupid. I'm in half a mind to not post this at all.
Why do you care so much about other peoples grammar?
you should stop arguing online. seems cheap
IM NOT ARGUING
get your ears checked lol.
Average song. Just a basic tune
This song is on my Kung-Fu schools training playlist.
Nitro Circus!
