We are going in Sept for the first time. I would rate us as intermediate snorkelers. Where would you suggest for the best snorkeling off Coco Cay? We are just going to go from shore. Not an excursion.
I've only been there once so I'm no expert. Talk to the snorkel shop people for best advice. I was told the most stuff is to the left.....on the cruise ship side of the snorkel area. Go out and work your way out on the left side of the area and work your way to the right. Most of the stuff is out there a ways, but it's not deep. Average depth out there is 8ft or so...I went out twice for about 1hr each time. I made a big loop twice..... sharks near the rocky area in about 8ft of water. Nice swim workout.... You'll need to be able to swim the entire time...out where the stuff is...it's all over your head, but nothing too deep.
Best advice for directions is to ask snorkel shack workers. I covered a lot of ground and would need to hunt again to find the sunken things. Pretty sure a couple things aren't far from the floating swim platforms. The sunken ship things are all out there a ways and spread out. Happy hunting! Go out to deeper water, start on the side nearest to the cruise ship dock, and work your way away from there....you should find it all. I'm sure there are things I missed. Would be nice if they had floating buoys to mark the sunken things, but they don't.
Everything in the snorkel area is surely staged to add structure for the fish to congregate at for a fun snorkel experience. The cannon looked like they are real though. How old? ...hard to say.

Those platforms are placed near the underwater attractions. There are orange balloons nearby too if I remember correctly.

This is the dedicated snorkel area/Chill Island. Lots of ground to cover out there!

It's not a real ship. It's made of concrete to make sure fishes are present when people snorkel.
