  • This video shows a demonstration of the halogen displacement rule. The halogens become less reactive down group 7. This is the opposite trend to group 1. The halogen displacement rule states that “a more reactive halogen displaces a less reactive halogen from a solution of one of its salts”. As you can see in the video, there is often an accompanying colour change, which indicates the occurrence of a chemical reaction. The colour changes are made more pronounced by adding cyclohexane.
