First Time Slide Bait Fishing with BIG Live Baits

- My first attempt at slide baiting with live bait proved to be a very successful technique! I couldn't catch live baits quick enough to keep up with the strikes which isn't a bad problem to have... great way to fish windy conditions and I think as I get more practice it will produce some cracker fish!

Really cool technique Mate, just another reason you're an Icon among Legends!!! Man are those little Blacktips ever energetic, no relaxing whatsoever with those puppies!!! What kind of Summer have you been having down there, Brett? We're headed to -31C tonight and by Friday it'll be -42C. I'm not complaining, the better the lakes freeze over, the less stress about hitting thin or soft ice and going through. That's a spooky feeling, I can tell you. When I was a teen, my mate and I used to race across a little lake not far from our acreages on our Snowmobiles. One Winter when we were in grade 10 we came screaming across the lake our sleds, which topped out at about 70mph (110km/hr) little 340cc two strokes. Anyway when we made it to the opposite shore we looked back and for the last 1/3rd of a Km where we drove, our tracks had broken through and it was open water. At the deepest that lake is about 50ft, so if we had lost a machine we'd have been hooped, not to mention chilly!!
You said this slip style fishing is big in South Africa huh. I'll have to look for that, it's pretty cool!!

We've had a very wet and windy summer so far and looks to continue that way for the foreseeable future the way things are going haha still bloody hot though!! Wow that's a crazy story on the snow mobiles !! Lucky you were racing and not just casually cruising along or things could have gone a bit south hey!!
Yess check out a channel called "zoo look fishing" he's based in SA and a wealth of knowledge and catches epic fish!
All is good here the boss lady is plodding around and we are renovating the baby room in time for the big day so plenty to keep us busy between work and play haha

Thanks :-) I have a new found love for beach fishing after this trip so will be a few more episode like this coming up :-). I'd assume they would be ok I don't like the taste of shark personally be I'd say they'd be fine at that size if you like the flavour :-)

Cheers mate! Just es I’ve seen that the grinders (spinning reels here in aus) have made a big comeback! I actually just acquired a Penn international 16visx that I am going to designate for my slide baiting over the spin setup. I thank that Penn spinfisher will get a fresh spool of braid and become a casting setup 👌

What knot did you do for the 45lb topshot to the 80lb leader
Hey mate for mono to mono I use a nail knot as it seems to get through the guides well without being too chunky… after that trial run I think I may run heavier mono for the sliding which will eliminate the need for a leader. Bit of trial and error haha
