Skutt 818 kiln
Cone 5, Medium speed, no hold, 3 hour preheat
This time I did and Cone 5 firing... if youve watched my other videos you know that when i fire to cone 6 i very often get almost a 7 or full 7. In this firing i had stilted items and my first ever use of a bead rack. I was worried the wires might bend at too high of a temperature so i set to cone 5. Also i had some clear glaze on a few things which i suspect do better at cone 5.
Its interesting to me in general why commercial glazes are labeled as 5/6, or how a person decides what cone or schedule they are firing to. Like, how do you really choose? It seems to me that some glazes do well over a range of temperatures but others if they get too hot its no good. And how these glazes are all grouped together and the only way to figure it out is if each individual tests for themselves? ok, rant finished but if you have comments or thoughts on this i would love to hear them.
So yeah another opening with the Hippyland frog chorus in the background!
One glaze i forgot in the video, on the mushroom teacup the moss glaze is amaco wasabi.
Any questions, let me know!

Love the cat figurine. Beautiful work.....😻
You do awesome work
My gosh your creativity is amazing girl!!! I love everything. The cat is so well done. She’s just perfect!! Would you please tell me how you attach handbuilt pieces to your slipcast ones? Is it a different clay that just goes well together? Also… the crystals you make are soo pretty!! Love tho combos! I made some a week or so ago but didn’t attach them to anything before they dried out lol. Loved the wood pipe as well. I can’t wait to try and find some stained glass scraps to do what you did. It looks a lot like when you have dried glaze chips and sprinkle them into wet clay!! Thanks for another awesome kiln opening!
I love your glaze combinations, you are fearless!!!
Where do you get your molds?
Hi! Thank you, i love color and hope it come through in my glaze combo choices!
.
So, i get most of my molds from eBay. They are mostly vintage and there's a lot out there to pick from but you have to search around. I am always looking, only rarely buying. I like plainer vessel type molds so i can make my own modifications later. They are heavy and cost a lot to ship but lots of people are looking to get rid of them so they are pretty cheap. Search "ceramic mold" or "slip mold" or add a qualifier like "mug" or "bowl" or "bottle" for certain items.
.
Hope this helps, haha once you get one you cant stop!
