Sir I have 1 doubt. In the last example the bad debts were 45000, and the opening provision is 18000 which is not covering the entire bad debts. My doubt is, shouldn't we credit only 18000 of provision for doubtful debts in the bad debts account and the remaining to p & l ? If the current bad debts is not coverd by previous provision we will debit the excess bad debts to p & l right ?

We made provision when there is increase in liability or decrease in the value of assets in both cases it shows credit.. Here debtors are assets so its value expected to decrease in future..
If Assets increase debit balance
If assets decrease credit balance
If liability increase credit balance
If liability decrease debit balance
