"The Thing" isn't just a nickname... they had trouble naming this beast, and so someone with a hell of a vocabulary submitted "Ontos" and there you go.
Except "Ontos" is Latin for "being", as in "to be"... something real. It's a thing. It's The Thing, literally, in Latin.
Woohoo 😊 Thank you so much for spoiling us with some more of TFE 😊
The Ontos looks like a tank drawn by a 5 year old in the best way possible 😂
When I worked for the North Carolina Forest Service they had an Ontos that was converted to fight forest fires. It had a big metal water tank with pump and hoses. Since it was a tracked vehicle it was perfect in off road conditions where a conventional truck with tires couldn't go
I know Marines, my brother is a Marine and I one hundred percent, iron clad guarantee they believe this nightmare should still be in their inventory.
However I am a little surprised no Marine tried to fit those recoilless rifles with bayonet lugs.
You gotta factor in that Farm and industrial gear are generally just as durable as military hardware, oftentimes more so. A lot of stuff that goes sideways goes at bullet-like speeds, especially in construction.
US Army: .... Spends the 50s & 60s getting ready to fight massive WWII style battles against the Russkies rolling into West Germany with more tanks than God.
Also US Army (now in Vietnam): .... "Hey, why are we getting shot at but there's no tanks around? Nothing but some dudeskis in pajamas & sandals running around the jungle. WTAF?"
Soooo..... Uncle Sam's Misguided Children had the M-50 Ontos, and the Army decided on the M-42 Duster. Hey, let's take a light tank chassis and put twin 40mm antiaircraft guns on it. You know; those things that used to KNOCK DOWN KAMIKAZES during that earlier unpleasantness that dad rambles on about after he's had a couple too many beers?
Viet Cong: .... "Well, it's been fun, but it's getting late, we gotta go now. See you at the ambush next Sunday. Good night all!"
I (and others) tried to replace our M47 Mk. I with 90 mm recoilless rifles. The Army said no, of course.
I knew this would be good when u got to it. 😂 Cant remember if i recommended it on one of the other ones when i noticed it was missing or not tho.
Not sure myself, but we can say that you put the idea in my mind, even if neither of us remember
@@AmericansLearn nice. 😅
Ridiculous maybe but I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of this Frankenstein thing when they fired all six barrels at one time
Props for comparing it to Ben Grimm. Honestly didn't think about it, but it certainly is clobberin' time with this bad boy.
these are some earrings there. awesome mini wind chimes?
As an army veteran I can say wholeheartedly that the army indeed does not know how to have fun. They suck the fun out of everything. It’s like you’re being babysat by old nuns while the marines are in the other room being babysat by themselves because their babysitter decided to not show up lol
Yeah, but, the M67 recoiless _rifle_ is very different from the M1A1 or M63 recoiless rocket launcher - the bazooka only has a 100m effective range, the M67 is _rifled_ so it's got an effective range of 300m and a maximum range of 2km.
You DO realize, of course, John Carpenter's "Thing" was a remake. I saw the real one when I was 7. Yes, it was fantastic, thank you for asking.
Meh, OG Thing was just a cabbage monster. Prove me wrong.
@@turbopokey it's always contextual - back in its day it was a good effects movie _and_ a pretty solid sci-fi movie _and_ a pretty good large-cast movie. BUT. That was years back, and things move on. It's like taking a P51 into the air during the Vietnam; nostalgia value doesn't bring success.
The marines loved but they also LOVE the A-10. The marines are badass.
Lauren, I am looking forwad to your reaction to Nic's video about Chick-fil-A.
at 02:40 you thought it was a plan an 8 year old would think is the coolest thing that ever existed HOWEVER my gson had a BETTER idea for stopping high speed chases involving police....HOOD MOUNTED HARPOON EH!🍁🍁🍁🌼
The ghost of Bataan and the real Rambo please. The ghost of Bataan is one of his slightly older ones. The real Rambo-Roy Benavides is one of his newest ones.
Cutest. Hair. Ever.......love watching you two.....never disappointed
