- I'm absolutely thrilled to share my first impressions of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. In this video, I explore the charming neighborhood where I stay, including the local seafood market where I indulge in the best seafood I've ever had in my life. Sabah has surprised me in more ways than one and turned out to be completely different from what I expected.

Always enjoy your videos. Have you checked the unlimited flight passes for Air Asia? Don't know if they're still a thing but it may save you a ton of money.
Just FYI there are no links in your description lol
@@matttakeno9955 Whoah, I just checked and the cost is $250 per year, that's like $21 per month, what a HUGE deal. I've been paying $50-$75 for one-way flights on Airasia...this is a no-brainer actually. The only slight drawback is needing to book 2 weeks ahead, but still seems worth it. I'm 100% putting money aside to save and buy this, thank you!
@@RachelPash Omg, I can't believe I did that...thank you so much for pointing this out, I added them now.
@matttakeno9955 actually after doing some more research there’s hundreds of reports about it being a borderline scam (many restrictions, no actual seats/flights available with the pass, no help from customer support) www.reddit.com/r/Flights/s/Al1YQjbzNF
My man finally arrived at the real eastern side of Malaysia! Have a good time man!
Thanks so much, I had the best week in KK, such a great place!
Wow KK looks nice !!!! Thanks Ben!! Will definitely visit the city in 2026.
It's honestly amazing. It quickly became one of my new favorite places, maybe my favorite place in Malaysia now. It even feels quite good for long-term living. It's hard to say if I prefer it over KL because of the convenience factor (international travel, train system), but I like it similarly! I'm already eager to go back (now in Kuching).
I see "Kota Kinabalu" and clicked immediately. I'm a local. I have to say I don't go to the side market that sells fruits, vegetables and fishes because they are mostly not locals, they are illegal immigrants. There is a Pasar Besar which is the official market for fruits vegetables, poultry and seafood but I don't go shopping in there too. Most of us do our shopping at supermarkets. Thanks for visiting Kota Kinabalu. It's great to see my hometown through your eyes and video camera. Your video shows a very beautiful Kota Kinabalu. We don't walk around during daytime because it's too hot. I have been living in Kota Kinabalu since birth but never visit some of the places you went to. Thanks for showing the places that I never been to.
I found City Gourmet to be the best supermarket in KK! It’s funny a lot of other people comment saying how locals don’t shop in supermarkets and that I should shop in the wet markets 😂 anyways I loved Kota Kinabalu and really look forward to returning soon
don't worry im local sabahan from kudat(rungus ethnicity) when i study in kk i also went to that wet market, the local kk called it pasar pelipin meaning filipino market because most seller are refugee(during war in philippine) and illegal immigrant(after war some don't get a chance to go back their own gov don't accept them), it safe but still be careful take care of your own belonging, eating fresh roast fish is good when going with friends, also don't get tempted with prostitution in kk most of them are just a scam they will rob you and prostitutions is actually illegal in malaysia but people still did the business quietly unlike thailand, but i hope you enjoy your stay, go to sabah tourism board to learn more about place to visit and event in sabah like anime convention or cultural event like kamaatan(harvest festival) etc 😊
Me neither. I'm avoiding Pasar Besar as much as possible。I'll go to Imago or City Mall for groceries. Some of the Pasar sellers are not displaying prices, and car parking is inconvenient.
Maybe you don't know how to cook,😅 that's why you just go to the mal,l super market, its good for you
Never been back to KK already 15 years. Could be still many illegal immigrants from Philippines 🇵🇭 there.
Cant believe I've watched the whole hour long video . Your sincerety is what drew me into watching .
Thanks for watching all the way through and leaving a nice comment 🙂
Didn't even aware of the vids duration until I saw this comment 🤣
U made it! Kundasang is a must if u have set foot in Sabah. I was there late last year & ticked one of my bucket list of local destinations.
Ah yea I had planned 2 separate days to go there and had heavy rain so I canceled it. My sleep schedule was problematic too, sleeping at 6am and waking up at 1pm, made it even more difficult. Still I found a ton to do around KK thankfully and had a wonderful trip. Next time I gotta make it to Kundasang!
Hi there ben... Bet you should go to the closed Maybank branch in Gaya street to get a selfie😂😂 naaahhh just kidding but if u willing then why not...
I absolutely love Malaysia. Im British but its of my favourite countries to visit.
Im local citizen and i think i should say thank you very much sir for the grand visit on this Borneo part.. i hope you can get the best thing we have here .. to be honest , be carefull of certain part area on the KINABALU CITY regarding poor safety of daily abusive people there..just tell anybody possible good people there if there any bad guys doing wrong or anything. Im so sorry for any really bad stuff or poor stuff maintenance we have ...
Ah ko ni, tiada yg bahaya tu di kk.... Sy tinggal tengah2 kk selalu keluar mlm. Berlebihan betul ko mcm kk tu byk org jahat. Eropah jauh lebih bahaya. KK tu mn tiada saja
Now you’re there you can go to Lintas Square for the restaurants, pubs and the Lido food court that even operate at 3 in the morning. The golf course you saw is the Sutera Harbour Golf Club, shared same area as the five star Pan Pacific Sutera Harbor and the other one I forgot, it’s a big area. Go to the Fish Market at 4 or 5am to see the hustle and bustle if you can stand the smell when the fishermen land their catch and look at local breakfast being sold at the ground floor of the main market bulding. There’s an evening night market at Jalan Gaya but that’s on Saturday and the big one on Sunday. Tawau it’s good not just the seafood but it’s next to Indonesia, cross the border to eat Indonesia food from what friends told me. Kundasang is another excellent choice. It’s the local Swiss alps here hehe. Either you take the bus or maybe I can hook you up with somebody who handle travel.
Fantastic, thanks! The weekend market on Jalan Gaya was quite cool, I put this in one of the upcoming vlogs (I ended up making 5 more which will come out soon!).
Hope you will be having a marvellous time in Sabah.
Thanks! It's possibly my new favorite place I've been in Malaysia.
Places to visit.
Kk - Sunset at tanjung aru. Tunku Abdul rahman marine park - mamutik, sapi, gaya, manukan. Bongawan fire flies.
Sandakan - rainforest discovery centre, sepilok orangutan sanctuary, sunbears, kinabatangan river cruise. Gateway to tun sakaran marine park.
Semporna gateway to mabul, sipadan, mataking, pom pom, timba timba
Good call
Another spot to watch sunset is Kokol Hill. It's a cool place since it's on a hill.
Kundasang & Kinabalu Park
Poring Hot Springs and Fish Spa
Mahua Waterfall, Tambunan
Agriculture Park, Tenom
Craving for satay? Head to Sipitang.

U must go to Sarawak too...forget Tawau for now...go to Kundasang d foot of Mount Kinabalu...lovely there...
Thanks, I'm now in Kuching!! Had bad weather in Sabah and so canceled my plans to Mt Kinabalu and also the islands unfortunately.
Now is the fruit season in Sabah so you might as well try most of the local fruits in Sabah which does not exist in West Malaysia
@@benfishermin, if you're in Kuching please visit Busang Jelini Long Panai kopitiam for indigenous food. It's on Abell Road not far from Sarawak Plaza. Have a walk from the Orchid Garden and all the way to the Reservoir Park. Do visit the museums too. Please, please don't confine yourself only that part of the city but do venture out a bit. Go to Premier 101 night street food... there's a stall selling yummy pork satay.
i would say to also leave the plan for tawau and try for Kudat if you still have the budget for it. Im pretty sure theres some bus rides to that part, not sure about planes. The drive there is pretty long so there is that. Kudat's got the best beaches ive seen mostly cuz its less populated.
Hi Ben..welcome to Kota Kinabalu Sabah my hometown ...hope u would be very much entertained by the nature of Kota Kinabalu especially the people's,foods, islands, sea side views, plus the natural green city surrounding....hope u would enjoy your short stay at Kk...I also like to say I love Chicago the city I used to go for shopping when I was studying at Indiana St University..5 years...40+ years ago..( 1982..89)..I really enjoyed during my stay at Terre Haute IN ,...I had visited many big cities there....Indianapolis,La,San Francisco,CINCINATI, Hawaii..Honolulu,Iowa St, Kentucy...n others that I couldn:T remember...Well I miss those places so much

Oh My!!! You really go to Sabah, I didn’t expect so soon. Hope you like another side of Malaysia.
I really had a great 1 week stay there, amazing place
KK, Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Sabah, really looks like a charming city. Hope that you have had a good time and a pleasant stay.
Yea it was truly one of my favorite places I ever visited. I extended my trip and stayed a full week. I could easily live there long-term just as easily as KL!
@@benfishermin Wonderful. Perhaps, you also need to explore the other capitals in the 13 states of Malaysia. 😀
@@benfishermin The other state capitals, starting clockwise with KL, a federal territory, the capital of Malaysia. Shah Alam is the capital for Selangor. Seremban is the capital for Negeri Sembilan. Bandar Melaka is the capital for Melaka. Johor Baru is the capital for Johor. Kuantan is the capital for Pahang. Kuala Terengganu is the capital for Terengganu. Kota Bharu is the capital for Kelantan. Kangar is the capital for Perlis. Alor Setar is the capital for Kedah. Georgetown is the capital for Pulau Pinang. Ipoh is the capital for Perak. Putrajaya, a federal territory, is the administrative capital. In Borneo, Kuching is the capital for Sarawak and Kota Kinabalu is the capital of Sabah, and Labuan in Borneo, is also a federal territory, a financial offshore center. 😀
Nice video! And thanks for introducing Malaysia to the world 😊
Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed it
Nice video man.. Welcome to kota kinabalu🎉🎉
Hey kota kinabalu have beutiful beach at tanjung aru / tanjung batu good view i think. If ur wanna try see it!
Look at you bro. All the way from NY.. now deep down in Borneo, Sabah
Haha yep, I really went as far away as possible I suppose 😅
This is getting good....super exciting
Thanks!!
Chicken / beef cost higher here in Kota Kinabalu due to the higher cost of the feed (compared to Peninsular Malaysia). However, the price of fish and vegetables are generally lower. And no, most seller do not provide de-boning service, especially the hawker seller. However, boneless meats/chickens are available in supermarket.
Ah interesting, I'm in Kuching now and found some striploin at a butcher for about 90RM per kg. I took a chance and grabbed 3kg, I'm really happy with it. It's still not exactly cheap but I'm just happy to find some quality beef in general. In KK I was buying import AUS grass-fed strip steaks and it was 150RM per kg, and the quality was nice (could only find imported beef at City Gourmet)
@@benfishermin, Sarawak is odd in that beef is not the main meat eaten. That "southern" part of Sarawak is more pork-y and chicken-y and seafood-y while the "northern" part such as Miri onwards to Lawas is more beef eaters - buffalo meat rather than beef. Especially Limbang and Lawas.
Thanks for coming our kota Kinabalu Sabah. Hope u hve a great day n enjoy our gd place like mount Kinabalu, beach Hotel to watch sunset, go to pulau sapi, try our seafood restaurant n night out lounge at near by warisan square a lot of tourist there. Enjoy all the way 🤩
Glad you enjoyed the seafood there. Very fresh and reasonable price.
Frequent arcade goer here - they used to have some Tekken cabs but made way for more ticketing machine games and rhythm games. The Pokemon cab you saw is official and is quite popular in Malaysia. You essentially collect these cartridges in the games and you can use them to fight! In peak hours I usually see a lot of kids fully decked out with files of Pokemon cartridges they own, it's a serious game for many lol.
I would’ve been crazy about Pokémon game like that when I was younger. I was obsessed and at the time I had desperately wanted some kind of online multiplayer Pokémon stadium game or Pokémon MMO
You’ll never forget that sunset bro! Enjoy your stay there. 🇲🇾⚡️
I had such a nice time there, stayed for 1 week and it was awesome. You gonna head back to Vietnam after Japan?
@@benfishermin Nice, happy to hear that! And yessir. If you make your way out here let me know, we can collab on some ideas.
The way I clicked when I saw Kota Kinabalu, I'm not from KK but I am from Sabah. I love seeing our place get more recognition
My hometown Kota Kinabalu …
Welcome to my hometown sir.. Have a nice day😊✌️
Thanks, what a lovely place. Have an great day too
Hi Ben..glad to see you in the East Malaysia at last..
Fyi, it's likely that most vendors or sellers in the wet market in KK especially are from neighbouring countries like the Philippines and Indonesia..so there's a possibility of scams in price list, just take an extra carefulness..
I don't consume chicken or meat but in case if I'm buying them I'll ask for an extra clean plastic bag, just in case to avoid salmonella of course.. (some people still they don't care about consciousness of hygiene factors, it's probably they're not Malaysians..)
I suggest you to buy a pair of Malaysian brand shoes like BATA just in case your shoes are worn out or got soaked in the rain as now the monsoon of raining season is gradually coming up..😁
Anyways, explore more and dig up more the hidden gems of Malaysia 🇲🇾👍
@@byteme9718 common sense please
i kept watching yor channel cos i thought im your subscriber... subed.
Thanks!
You can go for a walk into the golf course Sutera Harbour for free throw the main gate
Wow I should've just tried myself, next time!
@@benfishermin dude Kota Kinabalu is definitely the golfing haven of Malaysia - some 5-6 spectacular courses within greater KK city - seaside/coastal holes, even 1 golf club high up in Kundasang, overlooking Mount Kinabalu's peaks. But, next time, if u wanna do a quickie 9-hole walk, just swing by to Tanjung Aru golf club..its decent enough for a casual round.
@@benfishermingo to the marina club building Ben. Its one of the best seaview in Kota Kinabalu. Just walk to main gate then go to the Marina Club. Walk at the jetty and along the seaside there
Go up Mount Kinabalu, nature is calling.Have a safe journey man.
It's a shame I had plans 2 separate days to go here and it rained hard so I had to cancel. Same with the islands. After that I decided not to make any more plans like this so I just stayed around KK area. Surprisingly it still felt like I had quite a lot to do for a full week there and I loved it. Next time for sure I'm going to Mt Kinabalu
Fun facts. Old name of kk are api api and jesselton
Man. Youre gonna love KK. And Sabah.
Go rent a 4wd and start driving there.
Take the Penampang- Tambunan - Ranau/Kundasang - Kota belud - Kota marudu - Kudat Route if youre on a short trip.
Penampang from Donggongon side go up the hills towards Tambunan. you can try at night if youre a bit more adventurous.the drive is fantastic.
In Tambunan there are plenty of paddy field areas (if you have enough time, drive to Apin- apin) ,
theres a hike in Bukit Trus Madi
but if youre time sensitive then go towards Mahua Waterfalls and chill for a bit.
you can choose to stay the night there (if you like waterfalls)
or maybe in TVRC (if you like the river more) if you want
but if you're in a rush go via Tambunan Ranau. be careful driving here (do it in the morning) but i love every minute of this mountainous drive.
Ranau is a pit stop for your car, and from Ranau head over to Kundasang.
If you have time,of course: you can go to Poring.
if you love hot springs, the place is ok.
if you love a good waterfall hike 3.5km up, (worth the effort) there is Langganan Waterfalls(tallest in Msia)
If you love paragliding, you can find it there.
Or else, Head over to Kundasang.
In Kundasang of course would be the placeto chill and do one of your walking vlogs there. If I were you i'd stay in Dream world resort and walk all the way to Mesilau.
If you have time , go to Bundu Tuhan and have some Sinalau Bakas (i didnt try, of course because it is non halal, but i heard people love it).
You should chill in Kundasang with Sabah Tea or some coffee. find
of course you can always climb the mountain!
Now if you are short of time, go back down to Tamparuli then head over to Tuaran Rasaria (beach) - Nexus KArambunai (beach) and back to KK.
But if not from kundasang, go down to Kota Belud and then Kota Marudu via the KB bypass. Good drive great mountain and paddy scenery. Cheap fish in Kota Marudu too!
and then head over to the tip of borneo, Kudat, towards Tanjung Simpang Mengayau (tranquil beach, best beach for me in the west sabah: the beach is of two different seas South China and Sulu Sea) and chill for the night and enjoy the moon. hopefully doesnt rain.
And then you can go back to Tuaran Rasaria (beach) - Nexus KArambunai (beach) and back to KK.
There. a western Sabah escapade.
If you have MORE time though-- then head over to eastern Sabah escapade but via the south.
Take a KK-Papar-Kimanis (great hills)-Keningau (apin-apin)-Tawau (there is the so Lost World of Sabah along the way:Maliau basin) route (SUPER adventurous drive; can stop by Beufort or Nabawan if you like)
and work your way to Semporna (get a diving licence and get ur ass to Sipadan ; also, get a look for Bohey Dulang (be careful of pirates)- Lahad Datu/Kinabatangan (good seafood) - Sandakan (orangutan, turtles)- from checkpoint 32 head over to Telupid and Jalan Microwave 177 then go up the mountain towards Ranau/Kundasang and complete the circle back to Kb-Km-Kudat-Tuaran-KK.
but i'll let someone else expand on that route.
Sabah is adventurous, and full of things to do. but most of all, Sabah is chill-- especially the people.
Wahh!! KK!. lived there for 15 years of my teenage life... in my opinion one the best cities to chill... it's kinda small compare to KL, BUT, so many hidden GEMS everywhere... everywhere! hahaha hope you find one that fits your niche..
mind you, the ones who look like malays, might not be Malay coz there are not many Malays in Sabah, the ones who looks like Chinese might not be chinese.. they could be the Kadazan and Dusun, all happy folks.
One thing i like to add, as a malay muslim, Kota Kinabalu is the only place that i know of that celebrates Xmas like no other place in Malaysia.. love to experience that when i lived there before.. hence that is why you will find a lot of drinking spots around KK and Sabah... happy hours almost everyday for those who likes to drink... me no drink,ok. me Muslim, just love to mingle with friends... have Fun Ben.. Stay Safe! Stay Healthy!
It quickly became one of my favorite cities. I extended and stayed a full week. Hm my mistake referring to locals as being Malaysian, that means for the next 5 vlogs which I already recorded I made that same mistake. I was even told there was quite a lot of ethnic groups beforehand and didn't really put it together properly. I'd ask where they were from and they'd say Malaysia, so in my mind I was thinking they were Malaysian 🤦♂️
@@benfishermin they are Malaysians but of different ethnicity i.e Kadazan, Iban, Bidayuh, Murut, Bajaus etc Just like on the Peninsula we are Malaysians too but are malays, Chinese, indians, peranakan etc.
I truly enjoyed this video and watched till the end 😛 It’s been AGES since my last visit to KK and woww what a difference! I feel like going back there again after my Sandakan trip. Thanks for the video Ben!
Go to Tanjung Aru and experience the sun set. Or visit Kundasang
Tanjung Aru was great, ended up making one of the vlogs there. It was cloudy and/or raining the week I was there so no crazy sunsets, but still got 2 that looks pretty nice!
Kota Kinabalu used to be called Jesselton
And api api
Done subscribe bro, I'm a Sabahan, I suggest you to visit Tambunan and Keningau it's a great place to visit
I was in Kundasang last week. Short vacation with my wife's side of the family. You will like it there. Its cooler. Now I am back in K.L.
Ah nice! I had planned 2 separate days to go there, and then Sandakan + Island but it rained hard and had to cancel the plans. After that I decided to stay around KK only. Did you get good weather in Kundasang or lots of rain?

Kk is just like a twin city of Honolulu Hawaii for most Malaysians tourists fro Korea,China,Japan,Hong Kong, and UK plus Australians..

Yea really incredible seafood, ended up going back there quite a few times during my 1 week stay.
As a local whos in kl for study right now, this makes me feel so homesick ngl. I hope you enjoy your stay in kk!
There is a place called kundasang near the kinabalu mountain. A lot FO nice scenery there including a church with beautiful views called St Pius X church
Your camera so good, making the scenery looks so refreshing 😂. You need to check out info about Abu Syayaff before going further into Sabah. Just for your safety. Laksa is Sarawak food, many Sarawakian do business in Sabah.
Good old iPhone 13 Pro Max 😀
Is Abu Sayaf still around?
Welcome to my home state! I live 1 1/2 hour away from Kota Kinabalu (a rural district called Tambunan). I hope you enjoy your stay in Sabah! 😁
edit: please get a local (maybe one of your subscribers who lives in Kota Kinabalu) to accompany you to eat out, especially at the seafood market, because they charge the hell out of tourists it could be counted as a scam. If you have a local with you, they will charge you the normal price.
Also, us Sabahans take karaoke seriously, it's almost a sport at this point. Almost every house in Sabah has their own karaoke system. Singing is a big deal here in Sabah 😆
Awesome, thank you, had such a nice stay there for 1 week 🙂
Sabah is one of the beautiful states in msia.its worth visits.many places to explore😅
Incredible place I agree
That route you took you can jog early in the morning or open Strava to see what route runners used. That hanging bridge in front of you is okay to use. Development is slow but it’s progressing. That row of pubs you see if part of “Anjung Selera”. Go there in the evening at 6pm for the sunset, 7pm or 8pm then you’ll see it comes alive.
I ended up walking on that path quite a bit there, it felt peaceful. Thanks for your comments.

Welcome to north borneo sabah
Ahh man i just found this video, if you went here on 31 August you couldve experience our Independence day, and free concerts at night, anyway if youre walking around in crowds especially at Filipino market, be aware of your belongings, i was pickpocketed once because i was so caught up looking at foods😂
If you noticed, those kids at the wet market were carrying around some black plastic bags.
They are actually working- they sell the big size black plastic bags and also, would offer to carry your shopping for a price.
They would put all your shopping bags into their black plastic bag & carry it for you during your shopping there until you leave the wet market or get to your car.
Oh that makes sense, I thought they were just asking for money lol
dont forget to go to semporna, do island hoping, u will not be disappointed, the islands over here is first class, the mataking island, mantabuan, sibuan, mabul, sipadan and etc, tawau is okay too but it only has a lil bit tourist attractions, and of course prices in sabah are much more expensive than in the west malaysia, wait until u go to semporna, it is much expensive here than kota kinabalu especially seafood, so just be prepared 😂, and if u want to find high end clothes u can buy it at parkson store, they got calvin klein, crocodile, playboy, nike, camel, and etc. or just go to suria sabah cuz they sell a lot of high end stuff in there
I’m gonna visit again in a better season with less rain. I canceled all of my island plans due to weather.
@@benfishermin the best time to go to Semporna is go by next May...this summer time Ben

Must take a day or two to KUNDASANG, nearby Mt.Kota Kinabalu. Cooling climate
I had planned to actually but I had to cancel both days due to heavy rain. Next time I'm gonna go to mt kinabalu and hopefully semporna too
Fun fact: Sabah has special immigration autonomy. People from Peninsular Malaysia (West Malaysia) can stay for up to 90 days as visitors without needing a visa. However, they cannot work or buy land.
Wow interesting, I assumed they could stay there forever 😮
@@benfishermin, no they can't. Same with Sarawak too. Those are one of the rights that was agreed upon when Sabah & Sarawak agreed to form the federation of Malaysia with Malaya (the peninsula) via the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA1963).
I also noticed flights were more expensive at the moment, thought I was trippin lol
Yea I'm wondering if it's a seasonal thing, or if it's more related to the economy/inflation 🤷
Welcome to my country Sabah Malaysia..
Thank you
if you going to the wet market, make sure to bring a local who can help you to haggle the price. most of the seller dont show a price on their item, they will take advantage if they see you didnt know anything about prices. they will mark up the price 50-200%, ridiculous but this is the truth and especially the seafood item, the price can be from cheap to stupid expensive. just try to ask local for the price first, it should help a little.
Welcome to kota kinabalu..have fun here
You should go to kota Belud..Kota Belud have the best view and scenery in Sabah..
eat at marriot hotel for breakfast in the morning for RM80 nett u can eat it all while taking good video for the sea view. The most beautiful view from marriot hotel pool. U may ask the front desk... They will let u to check the sea view at the pool area even if u don't want to eat breakfast there.. I experienced it 😅😅
Ben did you try going to Sandakan? Lots of good food and historic places to visit there. Plus the Sepilok Orangutan rehabilitation jungle. Have you also tried the Borneo train?

Tourists normally travel to Tawau is enroute to Semporna islands hopping - The little Maldives.
Or you may catch the flight directly from Tawau back to KL or several China destinations.
Initially I really wanted to visit Semporna, then after researching I saw it's quite expensive. So I decided just go to Sapi and the closer islands to KK. But then I still had to cancel the trip twice due to rain so I didn't end up going to any islands
This video is awesome
Thanks!
Welcome to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
Do visit KK wetlands if you're interested to visit nearby nature attractions. Other than that, if you have some extra budget do visit Kinabalu Park in Kundasang which is an hour drive from the city centre. Have a great time in KK!
Yeay my hometown!
Love the energy!
k Kinabalu is a beutiful place to go. I have went there becoz my son studiying at Universiti Malaysia Sabah
I agree, one of my favorite places now in Malaysia
dude..youre crossing the line with drying shoes on a dryer..😂
Buy chicken at supermarkets or wet markets. Preferably in the morning.
Always make sure you buy food that's freshly cooked i.e. piping hot. Don't buy uncovered food.
Wow!! I was there over 15 years ago, and it didn't look like that. It was a nice small city. Lots of live seafood in aquariums. There's a Marriott there? May have to return to check it out again. The last time I was coming in after India and had Dehli Belly.🤢
Climb Mt. Kinabalu... I didn't.😂🥵
That wasn't a barracuda. It's a Wahoo, or Ono in Hawaii.
Remove that cartilage from the squid. When you ate the first one, I was once again yelling at the screen "take out the middle bone thingy"😂
Nando's is everywhere around the world.
Nando's is originated in South Africa, founded by an immigrant from Mozambique, along with a South African, hence the Portuguese character of the worldwide franchise. Indian food? 😯
@@veronicacasey454 I had a curry dish.😁
@@darrylk808
Nando's is not an Indian food restaurant. Same like McD, although they have Nasi Lemak on the menu, it's still an American fast food restaurant.
It is common, then to have local food added to the menu of most international fast food chains to suit the local tastebuds.😃
@@veronicacasey454 thought it was Indian fusion cuisine.
Nandos is a South African Fried chicken place. A few locations in new York, None in LA, sadly. Their sauce is phenomenal. Very Popular in the UK.
Ah gotcha thanks!
It is good to get a Sabah friend with you
Be great if you could climb Kinabalu, it is amazing! Quite expensive though and you have to go with a tour guide.
@@anthonywirth9936 400 pound sterling 500 usd expensive yes
I was gonna say oooohhh that's a cheap flight. It costs me to $80 roundtrip in Uber to go from my house to work in Atlanta (40min) away....
Wow I definitely don't miss uber prices! To take a grab taxi from Kuala Lumpur airport to the center takes about 1 hour and costs about $13.
So good 😊 your sincerity prevails. One question 🙋♀️ don’t you feel lonely? I remember I felt a bit lonely when travelling in Malaysia, and even some areas of KL as it’s so family oriented, or groups coming by buses. Those peeps don’t like to hang out alone. I remember this.sometimes this could get to me.even drivers or receptionists were always asking, where is your husband? 😅or how many kids I have 😂😅
Thanks! I don't get too lonely because I'm never on the road for too long without going back to KL where I have friends. And I visit Thailand once a month usually too and see friends there. So I actually enjoy lone travel time when I'm moving around, but I'm also quite an introvert.
@@benfishermin I don’t think you are! Introvert ppl don’t make videos on the other side of the planet, far away from your home country! Anyway it’s great you have some friends around
@@ellasi444 There are so many types of introverts! Some are more extroverted but their main functions are introverted, and it's also important to how one feels about this him/her/whomever😄self. Then there are genuine ambiverts too, who have both sides pretty equally. Maybe Ben is this type (ish)? And we all need connection, but in different ways. I can relate to your feelings what you say in your first comment
@@minnaihatsu oh yeah 👍
@@minnaihatsu perhaps women will feel more of it, as i usually get asked about my family and why im travelling alone 😁😅
Go to the islands for a day trip dude!
I had it planned but got rained out both times unfortunately. Next time for sure! Btw you have the same name as a famous dj from Germany 😅
Our local attitude towards boneless meat (or even fish) is of laziness (unless the meat is for young children). You do know that we are different cultures, right? Of course you do things differently in the US.
I believe no one is allowed to dry shoes/footwear in a laundromat. If you rent a homestay or an AirBnB, you can put your wet clothes/footwear by the air-cond. compressor (if by the balcony).
I've bought meat dozens of times in KL, as well as in Melaka and Penang where they say no problem to remove the bone. Also probably 100+ times in Indonesia and Thailand. It's not a big deal but I was surprised as it was the first time ever being told no. Usually you just pay the weight with bone and then they remove it.
next, you should definitely climb mount kinabalu
If you walk a bit further beyond the market (about 5 minutes) you'll see the sword fish statue people are talking about. Tanjung Aru is at a different place. Good for picnic and swimming. It has beaches, vendors and occasionally funfair.
Also if you're a durian lover, there's a local variant here called "dalit". It's red in color and taste like peanut butter.
Tanjung Aru was great to visit. I was surprised just how crowded it was, I’ve never seen anywhere near that many people on a beach in my life (it was a Saturday at sunset time I believe)
Most Malaysian knows about Sabah's seafood quality. you went to the right place.
I didn't realize just how good it would be 🙂🙂
@@benfishermin, enjoy the seafood while you're there! Do hunt for indigenous food as well.
