Vidit's insane bit of opening preparation | vs MVL's Grunfeld | Skilling Open

- Vidit Gujrathi was up against MVL in the 9th round of the Skilling Open of the Champions Chess Tour 2020. Playing with the white pieces, he faced MVL's Grunfeld Defence. What happened next was just insane! Vidit had it all worked out until move 31! He managed to put MVL on the backfoot and showed why he is such a feared opponent when it comes to opening preparation.
What happened in the game and how did Vidit come up with this idea, check it out with IM Sagar Shah's in-depth analysis.

vidit is a class......would have been happier if he would have won but a great game !!!!
@Viki M that's soo wrong.. Never underestimate anyone
@Viki M He is an elite... That's why he is in the tournament.. What r u on
@Viki M the same could be said for David Anton. He's doing fine so far. Vidit is certainly not playing at his best so far and I don't think he has any chance of top 8 now, but to say that he can't win a game is too much.
@Viki M u watch what u say about India no 3 , first reach that level .It's easy to speak sitting comfortably in ur couch ,u freaking hater .u are a loser .
@@hardyprajwal please be objective. As of now, he is not as good as the absolute elite. It's not about drawing. How many games has vidit won? You think it's so easy to become world champion? Look at how good hikaru and caruana are. Anish also is playing good here and they cant become world champions. Vidit is already 26, which means he won't improve that much. Look at firouzja. He is only 17 and already better than vidit. Of course I may be wrong, but this is what I feel. If vidit was not Indian, you wouldn't be saying all that about him..
Even with watching the game live, I forgot the move f4. Kudos to Vidit absolute legend
Meanwhile, Nepo made an 11 move draw.
Ian wanted to watch levon vs radja

@@rhythm4312 its tough now for vidit he is at 15 position with 3.5 points
@@rhythm4312 eveb if he wins all the game today it will depends on how others perform
@@rhythm4312 that's what they do.. win 2 or 3 and draws rest of them just to be in top 8.. he even got 1 lucky point cause of mc's mouse slip..
@@rhythm4312 it is not stupid getting a draw is better than a loss and you saw vidit almost crushing mvl and you don't want to get crushed by lower rated players like vidit ( I don't mean it is literally!!!
vidit is a super grand master but he is not in the league of top ten yet)
Vidit will come back today the hyoe when he played was on another level
Really Insane Sagar bhai and yesterday good to see Biswa came hope Samay also comes
Saw this live! Vidit op🔥🔥❤️❤️
Unfortunately he didn't find last best move of bishop and instead played king.. And drew.. Still gg
That f4 move was CRAZY !!! Missed live viewing this amazing game as it was really late; thanks for this Sagar bhai.. Vidit OP !
"and in the end...(14:08)" by Sagar Shah took my heart
Vidit is a World Class Player, he is just not getting the final shot. I have seen him play so many games in which he was completely winning and just missed one move.
VD OP
Nobody like him
vidit was trained by drawnish giri but now anish is winning so hopes are still alive
@@kpradheep8868 there is nobody like him
How can people dislike such a good video?. Vidhit is a great chess player. He has beaten the great Vladimir Kramnik and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov etc in the past. So obviously he belongs to the elite. Period!.
This was top quality. Always tough to finish it under time pressure. He would have won if it was classical game
Sir i watched yesterday's stream and now this video and now I am able to understand the whole matter
Vidit opening preparation is unbelievable against master of Grunfeld defence master Lagrave. This game also shows how the little inaccury will leads to draw or win the game. Also thanks to Sagar Shah to show the opening preparation of elite level. It gives me an idea to how to prepare more in an opening.
Loved the tweet by Emil Sutosky praising this opening
Saw it live.. great game
Sagar OP!!❤❤
sagar shah, you are great in explaining this.
BIG fan
kudos to vidit
11:20 The Quarantied Knight 😂
-Sagar Shah
13:45 After Na6, why didn't Vidit play Ra8 attacking both Bishop on a7 and knight on a6?
It's a very good question. Ra8 would be met with Bb8! And if Rxa6 then Rxe8 and Black is fine.
Sagar bhai hats off to you vidit plays whole night you commentate , vidit has opening preparation you analyse and post within hours
in ur best move if vidit moves his soldier to b7 i think it will be a game changer move
I liked this game with ur great explanation.
Ek hi toh dil hai vidit bhai kitni baar jeetoge??❤️
god he is legend
I most like your videos because I am not better in English other channels speaks in English but I can't understand but your style of speak English is too good and I can understand very easily thanks sir!☺️
_ chess player.
Emil Sutovsky tweet after this game
"What an outstanding preparation by @viditchess - wow. I played Gruenfeld for many years, helped the very top players (including two World Champions) to analyse it, but I do not recall anything of the kind. Stunning. Check the game vs.MVL from round 9."
Vidit is just phenomenal!! ❤️❤️
Greedy VD takes the pawn on c5 😅
Sagar bhai Improving chess season 2 please 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I love chess I started learning four months ago and I learnt from your channel
You made this vdeo at night 🇮🇳🇮🇳💗
Its not important that vidit did not won , the important thing is he played very solid chess and destroyed MVL in his own strong area , vd op ❤️
Thumbnail OP
Gem of class❤️❤️
Thank you !! Take care, sleep well!! Very long preparation
Vidit is a high class player for sure and he would have won this game if he had a little more time and as ag said its very difficult to see such difficult moves in this time control.
Vd op!! ❤️
VIDIT GUJARATHI you're a Vibe. god bless you❤️
that knight on b8 is in quarantine.😂

Vidit is a genius with those rook and pawn moves at the end. Amazing
Vidit op but kudos to sagar to actually find the moves that fast during the live match
YAY i saw the move rook a7...still just 1100 ;-; ...lol
You work hard u prepare hard n in the end... Draw!🙂
F4 was sick!!!!!

What a masterpiece this would have been!😞
Vidit sir is lacking in endgame ...nearly in all the games he was better till mid game but just crumbled in the endgame

This was crazzzzzzyyyyyyyyyy.
"This IS the nature of chess", most unfortunately. Great result for the game I think, it would be a travesty to the skills of these two gentlemen if one of them went on to win simply because he had prepared something that the other didn't anticipate. Don't quite understand why Chess 960 doesn't get more popular when it clearly tests a player's skills far more (at least till the day when players manage to 'prepare' for 960 different starting setups). Data, analysis - and computers, the demons that manufacture a sinister plan out of them should surely find better avenues of use than in a supposedly 'cerebral' game. So so glad that the best player by a distance prepares to take his games out of theory at the soonest and then lets HIS mastery decide the result...
Yeah magnus and Hikaru both agree that chess960 can be the way forward
grunfeld is amazing
What a game
such a legend is vidit
Oh the thumbnail
Rook A7 gave me chills
Vidit OP
One question Sagar sir, after Ruk B1 check can vidit would have castle ?
You cannot castle when there is a check, Abhijeet.
Thank you sir
8:55 I know the move was f4 as I was watching it live
Vidit always OP ...where the gap is just 1to half points ... imagine the level .. but just missing the wins
at 4:35 how did white pawn capture e5 pawn by going pawn to e6 pls someone reply
En passant ..chess move (not so known)
Big fan!!!!

Vidit op
Game explained better than agadmator .
At move No.29 Playing Bd2 is better than playing e5 as you are winning the e6 pawn.
Amazing game...Vd deserves to win 💔
4:46 Why not f3 to defend the e4 pawn rather than Castling?
Positional play, castle and play re1 -taking the open file with tempo lead in development and his king is wide open
Also f3 is always considered a bad move when castling king side
As Krish Gupta said, you don't care about that pawn, because you will play rook e1 with tempo on the queen, and be completely developed. On the other hand, black has a knight and a rook just sitting in the corner.
Also, f3 weakens the a7-g1 diagonal which can be exploited by the queen or dark square bishop.
Might be wrong though.
@@krishgupta1258 but won't he be a pawn down after castling??
@@sanjaykrishnan8379 positional play bro-pbno3 explains it equally well👏😂
At 9:36 Black could have played black bishop to D4..... I think it might have been a strong move... Any inputs? 🙂
I don't think it's a good move because then white can play Rxa8 and if you take the b6 pawn then you can take the knight with check and it's totally winning for white. But may I know what's the idea behind Bd4?
How'd we get the night? 🤔 my idea basically was to get rid of the pawn threatening to be promoted
@@yj36997 if Bd4 is played white can take the rook and then the knight is pinned (which is why it was important to play Rc1-Rc8 to defend the knight) and we can take it in the next move. Also, you can't take the pawn after Rxa8 because Rxa8 Bb6 Rxb8+ and after the king moves. We can take the bishop also (as it's a double attack). So it's totally winning for white.
@@rahulsrinivas3224ohh right!!! Thanks🤗
Wow🤧
I have a very basic doubt. How is move 27 included in the opening? :/
Vidit prepared and memorized the lines until move 27.
I think vidit should play pawn b6 to b7 when his rook was on a8
Vidit OP!
Nice yo
Win or lose I'll always support vidit
I pray for Vidit to be World Champion soon
f4 beautiful
Vidit could have also won his 1st game apart from this but now i think he doesnt stand a chance in top 8
When you're here before discord notification ❤️❤️
Hi chess base
Well played vd but unfortunately he might not qualify
what if MISHA played in vidits position
wow
Can I join the channel
Vidit will probably not qualify but still it's a big tournament.
Hey @ChessBaseIndia pls give the pgn in video description

Yoo...
Let's say improvement vs actual improvement...... If improvement (sagar shah) wins hit the like otherwise if (samay raina) actual improvement wins then comment.
