Discovering her and the Carolina Chocolate Drops was a musical magic moment for me. Her voice is not the only magic going on here. Rhiannon also has a honesty and stage presence not really seen anymore. Blown the Fuck Away!!!
I can't remember how I found Rhiannon Giddens, but I'm glad I did - a beautiful voice with great control. And she reminds us that Dolly Parton has written some terrific songs.
Wow she is so great! So authentic and such grace.
I think I am addicted to this song. I have been divorced from my first husband for a very long time, but it evokes that marriage like nothing else in this world. Amazing song, amazing singer.
I can only agree with previous comments, Rhiannon has an incredible voice which touches my soul.
I think RUclips may be the best place to discover new music.
Amen to that!
New music, old music, every kind of music. I'm addicted to RUclips.
Artists like Giddens could bring on a new folk revival.
I sure hope so!!!! Hootenanny! Come on Down and bring your Ax!!
She played in Philadelphia on Friday. Transcendent. Just phenomenal. And I have now played "Don't let it trouble your mind" approximately 17 jillion times. A musical genius if ever there were one.
You are so correct Sir. I agree with EVERY WORD you have spoken. I saw her at The Town Hall in NYC the night before the Philly gig and she Totally blew me away. I saw her 2 years prior to that at the same venue with the likes of Gillian Welch,BobbyNeuwirth,E Costello,Joan Baez etc and her performance was THE HIGHLIGHT! A MAJOR NEW TALENT no question. Too bad the lovely Odetta isn't alive to see who she influenced. I KNOW she would approve 100%. I LOVED the Carolina Chocolate Drops all the way back to their debut and they STILL are on TOP!
@@JBCo2012 The real amazing thing is here besides the obviousness of Rhiannon is this song was written by Dolly Parton early in her career.
I am about to say something I would never have thought I would say: This lady is better than my all-time favorite Joan Baez.
There. I said it. And I mean it.
In fact, she is
True
What a talented, beautiful, intense, artist. Thank you
My GAWD what a voice
great bit of Cello playing here & of course a great voice and singer too !
Rhiannon and the group both past and present are sheer perfection.
All the songs from this session are terrific . Her voice is unbelievable just love them all.the musicians just make the whole thing perfect
that voice the choice of songs says it all I love her music.
This lovely lady has loads of talent - love this song & the ladies voice !!
Brilliant song beautifully performed by Rhiannon. Looking forward to seeing her in Glasgow next month.
Wonderful musicians.
Love to hear covers that aren't well known.Great version.
Rhiannon Goddess
Fantastic voice
What an AWESOME voice!!!
Every person playing is top notch. I also hear a little Pheobe Snow quality to her voice.
She suddenly took me back to my "Diamonds and Rust" album by Joan Baez with this song! She's also very beautiful! She's definitely got a new fan in me!
I am so excited to learn about (& listen to) the music of Rhiannon Giddens
Love this version..can dolly not write a great song...amazing cover
i saw them 2 weeks ago on mezzo tv, at nancy in 2012 and steven is right about the magic moment! she's an extraordinary woman.
she is so awesome,....very talented singer and musician also.
The LP "Tomorrow Is My Turn" is greatttt!!!!
Must say I hadn't heard of her until this year's (2016) New Orleans Jazzfest. Big fan now! Come to Canada!
Love this lady her vocals are stellar and this song is off the hook
i just discovered her and she i so good beautiful voice
Great lyrics, great performer.
What an amazing talent and what a wonderful person. Ian from Canada.
Stunning performance!
I love this material, this group of musicians, and this style much more than her current repertoire. I realize that singers like to change and take on new challenges, but personally I much preferred her earlier work.
Who couldn't luv this!
Wow. I stopped listening to country when it became all bros and beer commercials. I’m sorry I’m only finding Ms. Giddens now. I’m back, country! I’m back!
How have I not heard of this woman before??? Wow.
Love youtube OMG what we have learned!!!!
Just "WOWWW"
She's so wonderful ... i think i'm in love
Mind Blowing x
Gorgeous woman, beautiful voice ... but the dude on supersize violin has got to be the coolest 'lead cello' player on the Planet! [the rest of the band is also sublime]
Anyone know who he is?
Malcolm Parson, A member of the original "Carolina Chocolate Drops"

I just now discovered her... my god she is beautiful.... i'm dumbfounded
luv ya kid..luv ya!
perfection
Back again for the 500? Time it's great
Great 👍
Unmissable! sure glad I found Rhiannon! So much good it does to ones' ears and soul!
But, is this song hers or Dolly Parton's after all? Didn't get it...
Dolly wrote it in the 1960s or maybe the 70s, but long ago. It is Dolly's life at the time.
Fabulous.
Hey, Canadian person...Rhiannon has been there, Prince Edward Island, on her honeymoon! Jerry, from Kentucky, a PEI summer resident.
Beautiful song and wonderful voice! This sounds like a Joan Baez song, I wonder if Joan Baez wrote it? If not it's definitely her style! That's awesome that this purity of talent can still be found here so amongst our generation Keep it up!
I think she said it was a Dolly Parton song. I know I've heard Dolly sing it. Rhiannon really does it justice.
DANIEL KERRIGAN Oh cool! Thanks!
Dolly Parton wrote the song, and first recorded it around 1968 or '69. It wasn't a hit for her at the time, just a song one one of her albums, but it definitely is a great song, and Rhiannon sings the hell out of it.
AGREED!
Great music beautifully sung. But the film editor chopped up the video way too much. Really, its distracting.
Anyone know which Dolly Parton song she wanted to do originally?

How's Luigi?
