My buddy who lived across the street had him one of these, never finished it though. Back in mid to late seventies vans were everywhere. In fact there was a guy who lived in the area and if anyone had a van he probably painted it, murals, graphics, metal flake and all, Same with the hot rods and muscle cars, in fact he did a pretty nice flame job on my 1972 Vega GT.

This is a straight up reissue of the Car Craft California Cruiser kit from 1976, but with new art/decals.
The kit's been reissued multiple times over the years, including a The Hardy Boys TV show kit with some different interior panels.
I inspected one of the kits I got for inventory and the chrome tree was showing it's age, a lot of flash on the wheels and steering wheel.
The only thing I don't care for is it comes in a much larger box than your typical model kit, which means to ship one to someone calls for a larger box and thus more weight.
You can improve the interior by adding styrene upper interior panels. A real van they would go all the way to the roof line to cover the internal braces.

Aww sweet!this kit has Colorado license plates decals!.I am a proud Colorado native,I'm the only one out of four brothers born here. The fact that some of the AMT big rig kits by AMT such as the White Road Boss,White Western Star, and Daimond Reo truck kits come with Colorado license plates decals,is why I plan on buying those 3 truck kits;build them & use the Colorado license plates as I live in Colorado and am a Colorado native. There are are custom tire sets by AMT;and tires that you can use that were left over from other 2 n'1 & 3 n'1 van kits that are molded as one solid piece, instead of two pieces.I personally would use a set of custom tires; from AMT on this van as AMT tire sets are fully branded, unlike the tires that comes in most Revell Germany/Revell U.S.A automotive kits;like the slogan says: Whatever you drive, drive a Firestone™.

Love how you use Rust-Oleum. When I was a kid in the 80s and model kits were 6 bucks I couldn't afford the testors paint or much else so I would buy Rust-Oleum at the hardware store and spray everything like you do, then when I needed to brush I'd spray it in the cap and brush it on. Used to go to school with different color hands all the time. Now I. Build real cars but use a spray gun 🤣

Awesome job, and much appreciate you sharing! I have not built a model since I was 11 years old... I have not kept up nor looked into the history of the companies much, but glad to see some moulds being retooled and kits reproduced, despite the fact these now cost 3-4x the price I remember.
I will admit I never really gave vans much more then just a quick turn of the eye... But for some reason am really giving these wonders of the 70s/80s another look. I do have projects in mind... And infact am here from what started with a Tonka flavour of a van like this. It was not until I really dove into that project, that I realised how offscale the proportions were... And then this came... Perfect! Looks like my aluminium chassis might mate up great with this.
I really love the details too, esp that CB radio vive with all those aerials and whips. I've always wanted to marry R/C and models when I was younger, but did not have the funds of course. Now is the time.
There was a lot of love people have for the hippie bus, but this is way past cool then the VW in my mind tehehe. I'm almost tempted to buy and deck up a real one... Trucks are all the rage these days, (I have a 2014 Silverado now all decked up in my garage)... But just don't see these much. These are before my time... But my mind can only wonder what it must of been like, being a 20 something year old back then!

      Ah,ha,ha,ha
      Stayin' alive,stayin' alive

Cool kit! Since the roof is removable, I could see making a custom raiseable camper top like the older VW Westfalia camper vans.

Another cracking video Chris. On the box art, that yellow van, is it a Ford Econoline (I'm not an expert on all the models). Smell the Brut! You are defo a child of the 70s 😆 What I like the best on your builds is, you use aerosol paints. When I started building kits again these past couple of years, it seemed like a no brainer but couldn't see many ppl doing it. They were just banging on how you hv to use an airbrush, so I gave that a go and can do it but what a faff cleaning it out all the time 😑 For cars, trucks and planes (primer and base colours) aerosols are so much easier esp if you do batch painting. Anyway, ramble over, thanks for all these vids which send me off hunting for them over here in Europe 😋

Really nice kit. For the tires, wouldn't be surprised that those were plastic tires that they decided to put into vinyl tires.
ONLY thing missing is the thick shag carpet. You know? The one that's so tall and thick that you need a machete to get thru it?
    Really nice build.

If you remember my '56 Ford F-100 that I posted on you FB page, it also had those split rubber tires. I didn't use them. I didn't like those either. I bought some aftermarket wheels and tires from Model Roundup that looked more like the ones I had on my real '56.

Nice to see molded in USA, looks like they simplified the kit a little. Bone heads went thru the trouble of tampo printing the tires, but they are the ones that have given modelers fits for years. And how about some photo etched parts. Regardless, another great review, I will scoop a few of these up.

Built the last reissue of this kit in 2006. I must say I prefer the decals offered in this new release, although I made good use of the ones that came in mine on two different kits. Love this Root Beer color; interestingly enough, Right on Replicas put up a 69 Chevelle in this same color yesterday.
