    Suga had his last concert in korea recently and since it is very hot there, he booked another big venue next to his performance venue for fans and staff to wait instead of being under the sun. He gave free water bottles and other necessities for free to fans.

    Suga prepared snaks with short notes for Army. Instead of receiving gifts he gifted Army on his birthday. He literally made those notes one by one. The members tried to help by counting and packing

    37:26 they talk to their parents off camera and sometimes on. Its not that the company prohibits it, but more their schedules are so packed, & their families have their own lives and schedules too, so linking up when both party's free time coincides can be difficult 💜

    So good to follow your journey with rise of bangtan❤
    There's no rule against contact with family! For BTS, almost all the family's of the members lived very far away from Seoul. (and in 2013 the quality of facetime wasn't good yet)
    Now, BTS have had a year of more time at home, and most of them spend more time with their family. The families of the members all treat eachother like family, e.g. the BTS boys try to come to sibling's weddings. Or the families come together when there's a BTS show, and the boys' moms refer to all the boys as their sons. It's truly lovely❤

    Oh gosh a lot of things were put out of context in this episode... First when RM was talking about sufficating things, he meant hate comments not about any rule in the company.... And as you know now, Suga's story is very particular, at that time he already had his shoulder accident and he was battling with depression because of different elements, he was working at a part-time job to help financially the team, and although he said he wanted to be with his parents but he couldn't because his parents at that time were in a very bad situation financially and were poors, they didn't support his career because they were afraid their situation will become worse, and so Suga didn't want to be another charge for them, I remember him saying that it was out of question to return to his parent's home because he wanted to help them instead.
    Of course JHope in that moment missed his family, but he was crying because it was the first time him hearing his dad saying he's proud of him and supporting him... Younger, his mom was the only one supporting his choice of career, and for a long time, he had to go out in his hometown early in the morning secretly to go train with his street crew and learn street dance.. His mom even had 2 jobs to help him financially... Later he dedicated to her a whole song "Hey Mama", the live performance is very touching. .. So when he saw that message from his dad, it was a personal dream come true and bursted in tears.

    My comment is too long for the chat, so i just put it here .
    Little (his)story of Bangtan and i11evn. (the guy who talk about rules) : Bangtan was originally abbreviated as B.P.B which came from their English name, “Bullet Proof Boys” (No boy scouts at this point). There were about 30 trainees for Bangtan but the official line up was: Namjoon, Iron, Shin Donghyuck (Supreme Boi), Choi Ikje (i11evn). Yoongi, Hoseok, and someone named Park Yeong-man. Ikje aka i11evn was the one who win the rapp battle against Yoongi at the first Hit It audition. He, Iron and RM, who was known under the name of Runch Randa, were part of a hip hop underground crew named Daenamhyup,. You can see Rm talk with them in this episode. . Something happened in 2011, the project was changed, turning the hip hop crew in hip hop idol group. The name has changed from BPB to BTS , The line up was redone. Iron , i11evn and others left the project and Big Hit. Supreme Boi left the group but stay in the compagnie as producer. It seems that i11evn and others underground friends were not very kind or friendly toward RM since he choose the path of becoming Idol.
    For the rules in the Kpop industry, Big Hit have some too, of course. Specially for the trainees, because they were all underage exept Jin (who never follow the rules Lol ) but less than in the other compagnies. Some hints in this série are really subtle, so maybe you failed to noticed them : when it is said idols don't have a lot of creative freedom, you see Namjoon and Yoongi writing lyrics/when it says idols have phone bans , you see the BTS members on their phones/when idols say they aren't allowed to go outside the dorm, you see Yoongi walking around freely. For the beauty aspect : Bang PD choose the boys for their talents and raw potential, not for their face . Exept Jin, none of them fit the very strict "k pop male beauty standards" , that's why anti attack them so badly for being "ugly (!) or "not a idol face", specially RM and J hope, but also Jimin who suffer from bodyshaming because he was cheeky and not thin enough, poor angel. As they grew, some behavior rules vanished in the air (they got tattoo and piercing, drink on Vlive the Weverse, curse on stage sometimes, made fun of their CEO ...but they still are gentle, respectful, polite and well manered ! ) Bang Si-Hyuk , when he created Big Hit, openly stated he didn't like the system that the Idol industry had created and he wanted to do better. No phone ban, no weight quota, no forced amount of practice (but we all know that BTS dédication for their craft and fan is crazy), and of course, creative freedom others group don't have. Not only to write their lyrics within BTS, but also to have their own mixtapes without BTS. Even now, just a few amount of Idol group write their own lyrics, and none of them talk about issues or topic as BTS have done (mental health, school pressure, disparity in societal classes etc)

    I really hope you could all finish the existing chapters of The Rise of Bangtan, the timeline of the docu ends until 2018. In my opinion, the earlier you finish the better so you could make sense of the chronology of other BTS music and other contents. This fanmade docu is really professional and I'm very grateful to the army who made it. This docu is a condensed & concise storytelling of BTS history from various official sources and serves as an entry way to other resources such as the concert tour trilogy of documentaries movie+series when you arrive to 2017-2019 timeline. Thank you for your reactions and discussions. ☺

    BTS makes all of us feel like we're slacking in our lives. They are one of the greatest motivators to live a life. Literally, they've saved, inspired and motivated countless lives around the world. It comes to show how hard they've worked and sacrificed themselves to be where they are today. Like that guy, who gave up on becoming BTS during his trainee days because he realized it's not something he can do or take. Unless you're willing to risk everything, make the sacrifice and stick to it, it's not something everyone can do. It takes these 7 talented young men with immense guts, love and dedications to their craft, fans and each other to become the BTS we all know today. BTS is literally, the epitome of Blood, Sweat and Tears. They made themselves to become the perfect fit for their dreams and of course, they also had amazing hard core fans who were equally dedicated to them and their cause for a better humanity and world through music and healing. APOBANGPO!💜

    BTS really wants to give back to ARMYs so much that’s why even small things like what Suga did on his bday was really meaningful to BTS and ARMYs.

  • @TaylorCanada8
    @TaylorCanada8 Год назад +18

    Suga bought and paid for items to put in little gift bags to give to the fans (on his birthday). He made 300 little gift bags (including hand written notes from him in each) and this was long before they were making any money whatsoever. He did it on another occasion for his birthday at a later date too. BTS blow me away how they are always thinking of their fans first. They truly know that ARMY are what got them to the height of their success and to this day they remain incredibly appreciative (unlike so many western artists I know). You talked about them being teens in this footage...yes they were. One thing to keep in mind when they talk about ages.....Korean age system was always different from Global age system (although they just recently switched to our way). In Korea, you were considered 1 year old at birth and you went up one year in age every Jan 1 (the whole country). This means that when Tae (who was born Dec 30/95) was 2 days old (as of Jan 1/96) he was considered 2 years old in Korean age. When the BTS members joined as trainees (and left home for good) they were ages 13-18 or 19..all teens. JK always says the older members raised him. They were living in Seoul and none were from Seoul.....so they were away from family. In the "American Hustle Life" series, they talked about not having seen their parents for 2 years....they were just so busy. I don't think the company was trying to restrict their contact, they just couldn't fit it in. Thanks for reacting....love this series.

  • @camilasalazar457
    @camilasalazar457 Год назад +35

    I think the difference between BTS and most kpop (and I say majority because obviously there are some groups that do write or compose their music) is that BTS really LOVES music. Many idols don't dream of being musicians but celebrities, and there's a big difference there. All bts members love what they do, they take pride in writing, composing and producing, they love being on stage despite the effort. They have a real love for music and their solo songs are a great example of that.
    Extra fact: They gave themselves very young to music and the music industry. Of the 365 days of the year, as they already said, they spend 360 together. Until recently they all lived together, now everyone has their own house. But they saw very little of their families and some of their parents didn't support them (Suga's parents for example, or Jhope's dad). Songs like My time by Jk or Inner Child by Taehyung are an example that they know they didn't live their youth like the rest and sometimes they miss that lost child who could never live.

      To add though, despite the initial parental disapproval for some of them, it didn't take too long for the parents came around. It's not talked about a lot, but from clues here and there, we can kind of guess that not all of the families had the means to support their kids equally but it seems clear that they are all very loved (but not overly indulged) children. You can tell that the parental support (both monetary/material where available and psychological) has really helped their children through the toughest times, and even now, the parents seem to be quite close to each other. (Jin's and Rm's dads seem to be best buddies.)

    RM performing in Cypher Part 2 at 25:00 was straight up BTS venting about underground criticisms of Idols not being hip hop rappers. It was meant to be a display of skills along with an explicit you're not this good clapback. In fact, in this Cypher Suga in particular goes after B-Free, the underground rapper who called RM and Suga girls. So the clip wasn't a 14-year-old getting his feet wet but a BTS rapper showing off his rapping and writing skills in a way which somewhat mimics the putdowns and wordplay seen in dominating a rap battle.

If you think about it, a lot of the great rappers of the last 30 years started doing it non-professionally when they were that young or younger. It's like a lot of great shred guitarists who started practicing in their room when they are 8 or 9 years old. Like Suga says, he was lucky to find what he loves to do at a young age. Not all of us are so lucky.

    but in kpop they use the english words so that foreign fans can sing along to that part. and also get a rough idea of what the song is about without knowing korean. now it´s not necessary because all videos have sub. but back in the day they wasn´t subbed

      Really liked your comment! I speak 3 languages and still borrow words from those I don't really speak when the occasion calls for it. 😬
      From what I understand though, Korean uses a lot of loan words from English, and sometimes what we hear as English lyrics are simply the borrowed words in "Konglish". There's some evidence of this when they play games in which they're not allowed to use any English words at all, and it's funny but also surprising at how often they get stuck!

      @@TripTipsPodcast What I'd be interested to know if I were learning Korean, is the 'proper' Korean equivalent of words like "tension" or "sense", which seem to have meanings/nuances that aren't quite the same as in English. They've also seemed to have absorbed a number of words for colour (eg. black, white, grey, pink) although the one that surprises me is 'mint' - it's not really a common/basic colour word in English, but it seems to be quite common in Korean. Glad you're having fun studying Korean! Language learning is on the back burner for me right now, but languages in general are fascinating!

    When Jhope was crying it was because It was his 21st Birthday and the company prepared special videos from all of Jhope’s family, the BTS members and the company staff. Just after that as the manager ( behind Jhope) left the room he and Jimin arrived with his birthday cake. Although they didn’t see their families very much or go home often they were in contact, you se this many times in their videos over the years. Although Suga’s and Jhope’s dads didn’t support their choices they still loved and cared for them and were in touch. Again in the early videos and videos over the years this comes across. It was hard to see them but all the families were their in the background…… as I stated in the last video-3.

All of their early videos from about 2013-2018 are on there with Eng subtitles as well as all still being on Bangtantv but without. These give soooo much early information... there are some funny ones from just 2 minutes long to full behind the scenes for music video to music show performances behind the scenes.... so much.

    Lol, you have to watch Kdramas to know that the the scene where Jin pushed the girl against the locker is the way a boy shows a girl he likes her. The backstage scene shows Jin apologizing to the actress repeatedly during the filming process.
    Just a clarification regarding BTS and Bang Sjk Hyuk (the founder of Bug Hit and now HYBE Corporation) is that his rules were not as strick as other companies, he encouraged them to write songs about themselves and experiences, their first 7 year contract they only made $ 260, 000 US dollars a year as a group, no shares of the company. They are in their second contract which I believe is around $130 million as a group. When Big Hit became Hybe corporation they were given approximately $10 million each in shares. They will sign their third contract when they come back from their military service in June, 2025. We’ll see what they agree to. Regarding drug laws in Korea, you will be arrested if you test positive for drugs.

    Regarding code switching from English to Korean in lyrics.. RM would have a live vlog whenever they release a new album, and he'd talk about the process. Based on what he's shared, I daresay he chooses English lyrics when the syllables fit the beat or if they rhyme well with the Korean words. They make really clever wordplay, and in RM's case, he makes double, sometimes triple entendres in Korean, English, and Korean-to-English. of course, some thoughts and expressions just translate better in one language, so that's another factor.

    I am going to jump around and comment on several different topics. Suga prepared those little snacks with notes for the fans as a way to give back. Also, we do have good food in the US. The problem is the bad and fat laden foods are cheaper. It's sad when a salad cost $10 and a cheap hamburger is only $2. Also, our country is so big and spread out, that we drive everywhere. Other countries are compact and do a lot of walking. Some groups cannot have cell phones the first two years or leave to go home. I know MonstaX got their phones taken away immediately. The Mgmt team wanted no distractions. I felt so terrible for all of BTS (other groups too) that miss their families. I think that needs to change in KPOP. Jungkook was only 13yrs old when he joined the group and debuted at 15. I cannot imagine my child leaving home at that age to live with strangers and not get to come home for many months! 💔 BTS are so humble and a great group! Its fine to feel that way about someone you havent seen for long and has changed...my brother is worse, his friend came out as gay and he and their group just stopped talking to him, that was 90s, he saw him around 2010s and apologized....

    A lot of English words..... like the word cake spoken in Korean is the word.....cake, but they add an... a h ..to the end. So it sounds like cake-ah. ( Meaning in happiness)
    I.E.
    If Jmin is outside and his mom yells for him. .........If she just yells his name and does not put an.. ah...at the end or.... ie ...( this is just how it sounds 😂)
    Then everyone knows that he is in trouble. And mom is mad. She will use his name in an affectionate way..... Like Jungkook ( his first name) will be Jungkookie. (So many army's call him Kookie.)

    your question of why mix with English - English got that too i guess, it's not uncommon to hear Ciao or Bravo among English speakers and plus tons of English words that were originated from French, Italian, Spanish etc. So same for Korean & quite a lot of Asian languages. It is common to integrate a bit of English in daily conversations or have words in their own writing characters but still pronounced exactly/similar to the origin English word. Might not be fluent as natives but just adopt some phrases here and there why not XD
    BTS even in their early days they have fans from other Asian or some western countries, so picking some words that rhyme with the korean lyrics would be easy for fans to pick up & sing along. Plus don't forget we have RM one of the key songwriters & he speaks fluent English!
    If further break it down, few reasons for just common Asian people:
    1 Education - English is a common second/third language learnt in Asian schools, so people know the words & are encouraged to use/mix it in daily life;
    2 English being used in professional contexts a lot. With businesses having global presence, it is easier to sometimes just use English to express with local co-workers, customers & business partners
    3 Easy communication due to English being a globally common used language, easy phrases can be easily understood by with other Asians or people in the same country but speak a different dialects who couldn't understand each others when traveling
    4 Daily grocery/tech products' labels commonly in English, English songs we listen to etc etc. if you can read/understand the English then just express it as per the origin why bother to switch! If others can completely understand the contents/things you are saying, then continue use it! A good example is "Karaoke", Japanese word but no one bother to change to another word/pronunciation in other languages. you can write in other characters, but we all understand as you pronounce it XD

Bang Siuk or Bang P D ming as the guys call hom, did trust the guys in so many aspects and specially musically. Ti the point that long time ago the hyungs (older guys) are calling him by his name which in korean is a big deal to call your boss by name. 1:52 jin slamming the girl into the locker is painful to watch. Not that this excuses it but that type of scene is a popular trope in kdramas & thats what the director was going for there, even if it is in poir taste. Jin felt so bad about it that he apologized profusely to her after shooting. I really like the song, but the mv's pretty cringe
    💜
    Eta: 17:09 often other company 's idol dont even get to pick the songs, they dont have a say the company will just hand them a song and say "do it". Although post-bts, now days many idols are given more creative freedom
    20:20 it would be understandable and you could be forgiven if you were shocked if someone you knew well as a "manly" man and he showed up in makeup. I wouldnt give you shit for doing that. The important question is, would accept him? If dylan (?) Showed up in makeup, and it was simply because he felt like it, would you think less of him? Personally i hate assigning gender to things. If a big bearded guy wanted to wear a full face and wear a skirt, i think people should be chill with it. Shouldnt matter if theyre gay or straight, if they identify as male or female, i think we should let people do what they gotta do to be happy, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else you know? Happiness is so hard to come by, so many people are always chasing happiness but never catch it. We as humans should make it easier for people to be themselves, to be happy, not more difficult. 😊 💜

    Take a look at a GUIDE TO BTS by Taylor. It provides more detailed information about each of them. I am a 58 years-old brazilian ARMY. Thank you for the reaction.
