If the chairs don't have armrests, it's hard for me to sit down, and even harder to get back up. If she actually cared about people with disabilities (she doesn't) she'd understand we NEED the armrests.

I work as a hostess at a popular restaurant and we recently had a group of bigger customers come in. I did my job as hostess and sat them at the first available table, to which I was met with loud complaints about the chairs being too small. I politely told them that this was the only table currently available, and the booth they were eyeing was reserved. I told them that I could seat them at another booth in about 15 minutes, and they accepted my offer. Later that night, we received a one star review for being “fatphobic” and “inaccessible” 😐

I worked at a "famous" restaurant (I put quotes because it's really only famous in the state I live in and popular in 2 of the states around us) that my dad now owns and the vast majority of customers were and are extremely overweight. The amount of food they order is insane (it can be somewhere between 1-4,000 calories depending on what is order...). The restaurant is tailored to accommodate fat people as it's the largest demographic who eat there. However, there have STILL been incidents where chairs have broken under some people's weight (and these chairs are hardcore durable, so it's astounding that they can bend and bust under someone's weight). It's expensive as hell to be forced to buy heavy duty chairs, booths, and tables that can support extremely overweight people and then be forced to replace those appliances after only a couple years of extreme wear and tear. You just can't expect companies to coddle you just because you refuse to do anything about your situation because it can hemorrhage money from the business. It's way more reasonable for business to buy sturdy chairs that will last 20 years thanks to reasonably sized people using them vs having to buy sturdy chairs that last ±5 years because of extremely overweight people using them and putting them under constant amounts of more extreme pressure than an average sized person. These people don't consider how expensive it can be to accommodate them. It's on the exact same level of madness as a smoker bitching and complaining that they can't smoke inside a restaurant and feel entitled to have their addiction accommodated via adding smoking sections with ventilation and ignoring other people's desire to be away from cigarette and cigar smoke because "muh rights" and "muh ego" come before anyone else, regardless of cost, the discomfort or distress they inflict on the people around them, or the disadvantages it brings to society as a whole. The argument of "fat people are healthy", "fat people deserve the world to accommodate them", and "fat people don't need to change, but society does" is on the same level as a smoker demanding the exact same thing and even has many of the same risks that obesity has. The 2 parallel each other in many different aspects, the only difference is people don't promote or fight for smoking cigarettes like people promote and fight for obesity. It's crazy.

Instead they act like it's impossible so they're not going to try and now they have this diagnosis that they can claim makes it not their fault. I truly believe we all have a responsibility to ourselves and those around us to be as healthy as we can be. As a disabled person (Multiple sclerose, wheelchair bound) I'm so done with her. I know losing weight is fcking hard. Especially with a chronic illness/disability, but try at least.... The world doesn't revolve around you.
Unable to lose weight because of health/life is one thing. Don't even trying is something els...
I weighed more than 661lb (300kg) pure because of depression, sitting still because of my MS and medication. I weight 703lb or 319kg.... (BMI 125 Extreme Obesity...)
But I tried my best to lose weight, even though it was fcking hard. And I lost 593lb (or 269 kg) after alot of hard work... Sweat and tears. My whole family is obese. I fell into the “it's in my genes” bs. Because that is simple and easy. But that is a choice....You CAN control your weight, even though it is really hard to control and maintain a healthy weight/diet/lifestyle it is possible and something she can control.
    I can't control my MS...
It took me almost 2 years of hard work but I'm now 50kg-160cm/110lb-5,2ft. (BMI now 19,5)
The fact that she puts being obese and having a disability in one group is insane to me. Don't ask other for help if you don't even trying to help yourself.
(Sorry for rambling...🤐 I'm just really irritated with these people, especially her...)

I have pretty severe scoliosis and went on a 12h train ride across Europe. You probably cringed at that and don’t even have scoliosis, so for me it was literal hell. About halfway through, a pretty chubby girl sits down next to me, I’m guessing she was around 20. She saw me leaning over on the table and asked if I was alright. Then I explain to her that leaning back was painful because of my spine. I explain my condition and of course I complain about how annoying the situation is and she also complains about how the arm rests usually inconvenience her and I accept it because everyone is free to complain in this world. But then she turns to me and says “they should make chairs for people with scoliosis” and I laugh because the notion is ridiculous. Scoliosis varies from person to person, they would need to make a mould of every person’s back if they wanted to be inclusive with this. So I tell her this and through her protests I explain that I’m not the queen of Europe, I do not expect special privileges for a condition that I knew I had and a position that I put myself in, because I wanted to save money on a plane ticket. I told her that the world does not revolve around me and that’s fine because I can either manage or change the situation myself. Then I go to the bathroom and come back to find her taking to another person about how trains should have larger seats for bigger people………….

Ex-obese here, I can tell why they let themselves get to this point. It's a lengthy text about personal experience. I needed a harsh wake-up call louder than my knees hurting (because I already had a chronic pain even before I got fat),
Those people coddle you like no one, it's 101 abuse disguised as care and welcoming nature. If you suffered before you could develop fully, turning onto food for "comfort" is very common, and those people lure you in with this comfort you so desperately think you need. And if you have a difficulty in moving around (my chronic pain) and hormonal problems (that I had since childhood) that makes even easier to gain weight, it feels marvelous, it's like a drug and their enablers. I was most of my live overweight, so I didn't noticed at first.
Lucky me, I never got above the Obesity 2 on BMI, and once I started to notice that I was getting trouble walking around for hours, I was like "wait, something is wrong" and slowly I started to notice how people treated me. Then I noticed the cool things I couldn't do because of my weight. So I ended up seeing those 600 pound life episodes and I cried, I cried "I don't want to be like this" (I was 200 pounds at the time) and the next day I searched for a gym in my city and I got into the one that is focused on older, disabled or morbidly obese people (the trainers are trained to be here to help you if anything happens) and now I'm having a little of difficulties in losing weight, but I feel so much better that looking back at my old habits I feel disgusted. According to my BMI I reverted back to overweight, and I'll slowly reach my ideal weight.

I have had 3 back surgeries. I walk a mile 4x a week. I do Yoga 3x a week and will up that to every morning soon. The Yoga I do anyone could do, is stretching and such approved by my doctor. I just cannot get down on the floor because I cannot get back up. After I went through menopause I did put on some extra weight. When my scale got to almost 200lbs I said oh heck no! I visited the hospital and spoke to the dietician there. I am now at 142lbs and healthy. Moderation is the key. These folks who think not taking care of your body in any way shape or form is ok, WILL 100% regret it one day. See, like I said I am in my 60's and I get lonely sometimes because all my friends who did NOT take care of their bodies are dead. I miss them.

As a chronically ill person, and so disabled, yeah. I'm offended. I didn't chose to be ill and cannot do anything about it.
Always been in pain for my entire life and then one day, I felt sick and never got better. I've seen my body changes, my body giving up on me. I had to grieve the life I had and the person I was and still in the process of grieving. I've seen my life going from a circle full of friends and going out, working out, studying and working to only work full time as this is the only thing I can manage. Oh, and one class per trimester. Can't work out anymore as my work asks me to be on my feets and walking all day.
Not even able to use mobility aids because of how people perceived young peoples with mobility aids.
And belive me, if my doctor tell me tomorrow "we have the cure but it needs a lifestyle adjustment" I would jump on it. Have already need to cut carbs out of my diet.
So yeah, it is incredibly offensive.

As a disabled person, I agree with her idea to post pictures of the seating and area. Then I can decide ahead of time if I should eat there… or maybe somewhere else. I don’t expect restaurants to change everything to accommodate me but I do appreciate being able to make an informed choice ahead of time.

I used to be 298lbs and I deadass could not fit in a good bit of booths at restaurants. I specifically remember not being able to fit in my favorite Chinese takeout’s booth and I felt like shit! But 70lbs down and being able to fit in the booths ,is extremely rewarding and satisfying!
Don’t get me wrong I learned to love myself at my heaviest but that helped with motivation!

    1. Im disabled and everytime they lump themselves in its grating. Its hard enough trying to get accommodations with invisible disabilities, i shouldnt have to try and squeeze myself through their abnormally large butts
    2. Staff at restaurants arent even properly trained to handle allergies or food intolerances. I have celiac and went to a highly rated restaurant, i let them know about the celiac. The guy handling my food put contaminated butter in my fries and i got sick.
If the guy working the back cant get cross contamination, why would you expect them to read, memorize, and pass an exam on the ins and outs of fatphobia and accommodations needed for fat people?

The thing that gets me the most is that they act so oppressed when they literally put themselves in this position. Then expect the world to bend over backwards for them like bffr. There are people with disabilities that ACTUALLY need accommodations, and nothing is happening for them.

That reminded me of when I had sleep apnea and my doctor said "lose weight". 50 lbs down I suddenly didn't have sleep apnea anymore.

Amazing how these people seem to be oblivious to the fact that a lot of these problems they are facing are self-inflicted. You don't gain 200+ pounds from one Thanksgiving dinner it takes years of overeating and a sedentary lifestyle to gain all that weight.

It definitely did for me--it started as a thyroid disorder for me but I definitely didn't help myself. I laid around all the time, ate too much, and just didn't give a dang. Two decades later, I found myself in very hot water with my health. I'd give anything to go back to teenage me and beg her to just lift some damn weights once in a while to avoid two decades' worth of suffering.
