  • Stuck Rotors on your French Horn, Tuba or Trombone can be really frustrating, but easy to fix. You’ll need some round nose pliers and a really good oil like Tech-Oil. Get yourself a bottle at www.techoillubricants.com.
Remember, if you have to put more than a hand shake worth of pressure to get the rotor to move, take it to a repair tech you trust and let them have a look. It’s possible if not even easy to bend the stem of a rotor.
Have a repair questions you’d like answered? Send me a message and I’ll answer it on the next Tech-Tip Tuesday.
Music on today’s video is from Podington Bear.

The horn looked new, so the owner had not considered the need for regular inspection and servicing. Was sewing machine oil used in the rotors?

Tech-Oil on the rotor and a thread oil in development by Tech-Oil on the threads of rotor screws.

@@repairmasterclass I meant what may have gummed the rotors in the first place, or were they left to dry out?

@@pauljmeyer1 oh I see! Sorry for misunderstanding. Loads of things contribute to this. Being left dry can be a factor, but typically it’s being left wet with the wrong stuff, milk, pop, snot, bacteria and other yummies like that. Bad oil, as in old petroleum gone rancid, can sometimes be a factor as well. I’ve also seen the medications people are on contribute, so, any number of reasons.
