Crackdowns on campuses won’t intimidate students, with Sabiya Ahamed and Shahd al-Hadid

- Unbowed by the harsh crackdowns and attempts at repression, students across the United States and around the world are continuing to protest against the American- and European-backed genocide and their institutions’ role in it.
We are joined by Shahd al-Hadid, a student at the University of Sheffield in the UK. She is a member of the Sheffield Campus Coalition for Palestine, which is leading a mass encampment in solidarity with the Palestinian people.
Sabiya Ahamed, a staff attorney at the civil rights organization Palestine Legal, tells us about efforts to defend students against the widespread violations of their rights.

The U.S. educational industrial complex needs to be careful. U.S. universities are NOT the only universities on the planet. I believe I heard that Cuban and Chinese universities are FREE for foreign students, and YES, these are world-class institutions. (German universities are also free for foreign students, but unfortunately, Germany is devolving back into rightwing repression).
Thank you guys for giving voice to the students and today to the lawyers that intend to defend them, why would there be a need for all of this if politicians will at least do their jobs that they get paid for over and above the money they steal. To the lawyers this is a very noble effort you undertake one that never really has any materialistic benefit but to defend the future leaders today will set us onto the path of renewal a path that this generation will remember and ensure this hegemonic life will never be allowed to reinsert itself into our lives ever again. Just hearing you all talk the student are in good hands and the reason I say this because one of you were getting cut off and the emotional despondency was evident now that is determination ( feel sorry for the judges hearing this case ) and just to let you know we hear you and the breath these platforms afford you, we will continuously oxygenating you, with our screams in support from all over this planet.

Salute to you young people ,you have morality and humanity. Free Palestine , where is the free speech in The United states.
British voices are really not being amplified by the resistance media, and I feel like Gaza don't see the many many UK actions because events in America get precedence.
I really hope they know that the UK population and students are very active, but I notice on Al Jazeera as well that UK actions are largely ignored.
It's such a shame that Sheffield has been represented by an American voice, when we need to hear about the British, and UK movement, and for it to be taken seriously as the grassroots, indigenous movement that it is.

Kids are taking over university campuses around the world for the noblest possible reason anyone could do such a thing in 2024. There are so many reasons to feel pessimistic, but Gen Z’s fierce opposition to the Gaza genocide is a massive reason to have hope for the future.
I talk all the time here about the need for a collective awakening and revolution in order to turn this disaster of a civilization around, but it could turn out that what ends up saving humankind is as mundane as a superior generation of humans emerging out of the information age and replacing inferior generations who’ve been far more indoctrinated by mass media propaganda.

This world is so sick because nobody takes responsibility for the things that are happening in it. The rich and powerful shore up more and more wealth and power while offloading the responsibility for it onto others. They destroy the biosphere while offloading the consequences onto ordinary people, while telling us we just need to ride our bikes more and consume less in order to fix the problem. They start wars and back genocides abroad while refusing to provide for the needful at home, and if you complain they tell you you just need to vote harder next election. They take all of the power and none of the responsibility.
We can’t have a healthy world until we reverse this dynamic, and like all matters concerning responsibility that means it begins with the face in the mirror. We all need to step up to the plate and take responsibility for turning this catastrophe around, and in 2024 that means starting with the genocide our own governments are actively facilitating.

Human thriving arises from curiosity. Curiosity about the way our material universe operates leads to advances in science, and all the benefits that come with it. Curiosity about how our civilization’s power structures operate leads to an understanding of how the world really works, which will lead to the emergence of a truth-based society if realized on a collective level. Curiosity about our own consciousness and inner processes leads to self-realization, and the harmonious way of moving in the world which flows from it.
If a healthy humanity exists in the future, it will be above all a deeply curious species. College students are being blacklisted standing up for human rights, can boycott universities and businesses that are banning them from studies and work. If a whole generation does that and exposes which businesses are banning them, like minded customers of theirs would be able to boycott as well. It will bring educational institutions and corporates to their knees.

Long live the PFLP, because sadly we are in a phase when activism, like academia and the genocide in Palestine, has been commodified - we can challenge the propaganda, but that's not stopping production or the genocide. The Italian fascists created a "Labour Charter" that appealed to European socialists at the time because it created a labour union and worker's rights, only those rights were predicated on not going on strike or forming any unions other than the fascist-controlled state union, but hey, some European socialists argued, that's better than no union (it wasn't). "Social media" is just American media, and people in the Global North have to achieve a better understanding of their war economy, which includes Instagram, RUclips (owned by Google, helping the IOF with cloud computing...) etc: the American economy is a neurotic, drug-fuelled quarterly financial scheme that produces only two things, weapons of mass destruction and propaganda, so the only effective way to stop the genocide is to seriously seize up the economic activity of the parent company of the IOF's genocide, America, for at least 6 months, as Palestinian trade unions have been demanding from people in the Global North do but have been sidelined because they're not conducive to the imperialist media scape like the image of armed resistance, which one can dismiss having to support or not, because it's a false dichotomy colonization created by imposing violence in the first place. Palestine Action does good work, but there's always going to be another Elbit when America runs the (digital) printing press and the gun factory. Academia was always commodified, so we're seeing that class consciousness is not really understood as well as it should be - a university can hide its investments because the university in America and Europe is a commodity, not a public service.
free tuition and free Palestine go hand-in-hand. Students fear not being able to get a job without the university degree from the private banking institution they call a university, then students should either aggressively demand free tuition likes #FeesMustFall in South Africa, or build their own institutions while organizing labour unions of their own in the fragile service economy of white supremacist imperialism that America is and waging resistance that way. There is still a dependancy on capitalist institutions that only prolongs the production of false consciousness i.e. the sense that progress is being made, when really it's just being channeled into American social media companies' financial portfolios at every quarterly business report meeting with shareholders. You can see that Meta, for example, saw its stocks increase in value since October 7th... as Avner Cohen (former advisor re: religious affairs to the occupation/IOF in Gaza) said, "Hamas is, to my great regret, Israel's creation..." intended to delegitimize the PFLP and Palestinian labour organizing. Former IOF Gen. Yitzhak Segev himself said that "The Israeli government gave me a budget and the military government gives to the mosques" and I say that as an Arab-African descendant of both Muslims and Jews... well, replace "mosques" with "social media" and look at the information sharing agreement clauses of the major social media companies with law enforcement in America, Canada, NATO basically, and you have the same scenario playing out.
