    I think these small, self-contained solutions to specific problems (e.g. how to construction bots) are great! Other desirable properties like scalability and reusability are good too, but they come at a complexity and scope cost that is hard to pay for in the early game, especially before robots!

  • @RealCyclops
    @RealCyclops 3 года назад +41

    20:10 - You have to remember that it was 80 at speed 10 so it would have only produced 8 in real time. That being said, having this setup as early as you can, that's still a lot of robots you'll have available eventually.

    Wow, this is exactly what I was looking for right now. Attempting to build a larger city-block and trains base and I was getting so bogged down with manually building things that I decided to finally just forgo and bypass a little bit of organization until I could get robots, then go back and fix the mild spaghetti.

    I do have to say that I probably wont ever end up using something like this. I'm probably the slowest factorio player there is because that's how I like to play this game. Never rushing anything, making everything properly so I never have to look back, except if need to expand in late game (don't think I've ever launched a rocket in under less than 50 hours on any playthroughs lol). But it sure was entertaining to see you build something that looks like a mess for once :D

    One quick note on the extra heavy oil that needs to be cracked: if you don't use heavy oil cracking, each bot produces an excess of about 12 heavy oil units. That would mean each storage tank you put on the heavy oil line lets ~2k bots get built before it fills up. Not a permanent solution, sure, but it still works.

  • @ThatOliveMrT

    The real beauty shines once you unlock the logistics chests. Sure with just blue science you can automated construction but with a little yellow you can enable some more spaghetti. I'll rush logistics chest for my first yellow tech and artillery second. Sure you can half robot spaghetti till you fully automated yellow. But I find full robot spaghetti for late game production items is king. That and auto feeding arty can be a pain lol

    My 1 recommendation to new players that use this is to instead of having an box as an output, use a robot building (can’t remember their name) and connect it to the inserter with a wire. You can set the inserter limit of only work if the amount of bots is LESS than a maximum number. That way this machine doesn’t accidentally make 5k bots.

  • @fissionphoenix4995

    I spent some time working on my base and came back to this with 250ish robots (plus 20 I picked up for my first personal roboports) and an excess of light oil and a lack of heavy oil for lubricant. That seemed weird to me. My pump was set to crack heavy oil only when the tank had >300 units. I flushed the light oil and then I immediately had an excess of petroleum and didn't have space for more batteries. So I think I needed to leave more heavy oil in the tank for one thing, and for another thing I think it needs a tank for petroleum to be pumped away after batteries get backed up.

    • @fissionphoenix4995
      @fissionphoenix4995 2 года назад

      I was also having some power issue for a few game days as I fiddled around with some solar panel/accumulator stuff so maybe the ratios got messed up because of that, but it does look like petroleum is continuing to back up into this tank I set up while heavy oil also builds up in the tank for which I set the pump to wait until 10k units before cracking to light oil.

    Well... One on the first comments on this awesome channel, thank you so much, Nilaus, for your content.
    Now, I perfectly understand how good this build is for beginner players. Sadly, I does not fit my need. Well, building this tiny bit bot production takes longer than setting the regular one I use, which expand itself when first bots are made (I expected that and I am sad this does not work that way). My issue is, I tend to play fast and I want my bots to finish my builds ASAP. So, if this build produce 4 bots in one minute, it would really not help, because at that stage, I usually have so much builds ready to be constructed (with or without blueprint usage, doesn't make difference), so nothing would be working fast enough.
    Maybe its just my corruption, I tend to finish the rocket ASAP, but this would not fit.
    About the advanced oil processing, only you need is to upgrade one refinery to advanced, others could work on the basic one and of course, one tank for each fluid. You have refineries ready for advanced upgrade, don't you? Bots will do rest once they are produced.

    • @ralfu.5710
      @ralfu.5710 3 года назад

      At the time you unlock robots the number of roboports you need can easily enough be handcrafted, a sufficient quantity of robots not so much though because of the 20s robot frames
      So this is really just to get the robots going
      In his 'let's start automating' his robot-line includes the roboports + circuit-conditioned inserting
      And as he replied to someone asking the same question: just using construction bots first (in your grid roboport) already is game-changer

      You plop down some yellow chests, convert some of your jump start "materials" into red chests - then you place down a few roboports and supply them with construction bots. Then place blueprints and see the robots go to work clearing and building stuff for you - taking the needed materials out of red chests, placing them where the ghosts are and putting deconstructed stuff (rock, trees, ...) into your yellow chests.
