I really hate that trope because I really don't like it when these misunderstandings and built up lies occur. He actually gave her some really good advice that she should respond to the confessor with sincere feelings instead of running away. Despite that (Literally unable to understand the emotions of normal people through no failing of his own) he actually remains a fairly stand up guy. Kei actually managed to find stability with her own issues and came around to like him of her own accord knowing of his inhuman nature that is trying to figure out the whole human thing and somehow looking after his 'tools' as he goes.

As someone who have read the Light Novels (all Year 1 Volumes) Ichinose is among the top tier waifu in the series along with Karuizawa Kei, Hiyori Shiina & Sakayanagi Arisu

Reading the LN is incredibly easy if you know how to google, and unless you're mentally disabled or blind you literally have no excuse not to. S2 will never happen, the fans and author in japan did not like the adaption
He held true to this as well. He did the same thing with Sato, knowing full well what was going to happen he respected her feelings enough to give an honest answer.
I think in the end it will be revealed that everything that is happening or happened was as per his grand plan or something. On a few places he had to improvise because of his father and Tsukishiro's interference but still he is changing each character one at a time just so they can be useful for him and his plan. In the latest volume he simply discarded Sakura and saved Kushida instead just because Sakura was basically useless for his plans while Kushida is a very strong piece. Horikita has improved insanely well as a leader but her character at its core remains the same as before she was running after her brother's acknowledgement and now she is doing the same thing for Ayanokoji. It was revealed in Volume 2nd year 4th that she want Ayanokoji to acknowledge her. Although it is not revealed yet even in the light novel but I think Ayanokoji's plan is to break up with Kei Karuizawa just before the end of second year as he has improved her character so much that he is sure that she doesn't need a protector anymore and can deal with any situation herself. He motive to start a relationship with Kei Karuizawa was to improve her and his own character as well as he learned everything about love, dating, kiss and everything else from her making her mentally strong as well and now she is ready to handle everything on her own. He planned this for Kei Karuizawa long ago and even devised his next plan during his meeting in his room with Ichinose at the end of their 1st year. Ichinose was tense that time thinking that she is not a good leader and wanted Ayanokoji's help or some advice but Ayanokoji told her she is good at the same time she need to change a few things as well and then he asked Ichinose to come and meet him in his room again a year later at the end of their 2nd year. Now, with Kei Karuizawa gone and since Ichinose has already confessed to Ayanokoji, I think he planned it all along to get together and start a relationship with Ichinose at the end of their 2nd year.

He has promised her that he will never let her get expelled and is trying to change her attitude ever since.
Nope, That's completely wrong. He was going to expel Kushida, It was Horikita's Megamind move to keep Kushida in the class so she can be useful. Horikita even called out Ayanokoji by saying "You don't have to force yourself to say such things" when he said that Sakura was the one who deserved to be expelled
It seems Honami is the most popular girl in novel according to data info they revealed at books Volume 11 and 11.5. Kei is the 2nd. I guess some foreigners might misunderstand Japanese info because it has been revealed in Japanese. In fact, Honami got the first place on ranking named 彼女にしたいランキング(Which girl do you think will be the best girlfriend?). Also, Honami got the first place on voting event named 高度育成高校席替えタイム！ キミは誰の隣の席がいい？(Which girl do you want her to get seat next to you in class?).
It's explained in the light Novel clearly, Honami isn't the type who can lead nor Kanzaki. She needs a strong leader like Ayanokouji or Even Ryuuen. And that's why she gets shit thrown on. She can't handle it.
Like the guy above me said; she isn't fit to be a true leader. Out of all the class leaders/masterminds, she's the weakest. She may have been superior to Horikita, but Horikita has been maturing big time. But well, imo, the reason she isn't fit to be a leader is because she has no edge. Kanzaki can also be careless as well, despite him being smart.

@@magnus7763 I might miss some points and I would like other LN readers to correct me if I made some mistakes, so anyway, there is an end of the year kind of an exam where the each classes gets to choose a person to expel in their own class( I wont explain other additional rules and details), anyway, it is guaranteed to have one student expel in each class. Due to ichinose's attitude or i dunno ideals(?) she seems to want to take the route of power of friendship(just a joke dont take it seriously) and wants to pay up the minimum amount of points( which is expensive and i forgot the actual amount) to save their classmate from expulsion. Unfortunately, even if they combined the whole class' points, they cant pay the amount.

So what happens was that ayanokouji knows ryuenn and his group (ishizaki,albert,ibuki,hiyori(?)) because he is the reason why ryuenn is in this predicament. and just acts as a mediator while ryuenn's squad gives the necessary amount of points to cover the payment on ichinose's side while ichinose's whole class will vote to save ryuenn(also i will say these rules cause it happened to be necessary , but each student gets to have 3 votes of saving, 3 votes for nominating to expel and only i think 1 vote of saving can be given by each student to vote for someone in another class) hence ryuenn was not expelled and ichinose's class bankrupt(lol)

I think in the end it will be revealed that everything that is happening or happened was as per his grand plan or something. On a few places he had to improvise because of his father and Tsukishiro's interference but still he is changing each character one at a time just so they can be useful for him and his plan. In the latest volume he simply discarded Sakura and saved Kushida instead just because Sakura was basically useless for his plans while Kushida is a very strong piece.
Horikita has improved insanely well as a leader but her character at its core remains the same as before she was running after her brother's acknowledgement and now she is doing the same thing for Ayanokoji. It was revealed in Volume 2nd year 4th that she want Ayanokoji to acknowledge her.
Although it is not revealed yet even in the light novel but I think Ayanokoji's plan is to break up with Kei Karuizawa just before the end of second year as he has improved her character so much that he is sure that she doesn't need a protector anymore and can deal with any situation herself. He motive to start a relationship with Kei Karuizawa was to improve her and his own character as well as he learned everything about love, dating, kiss and everything else from her making her mentally strong as well and now she is ready to handle everything on her own.
He planned this for Kei Karuizawa long ago and even devised his next plan during his meeting in his room with Ichinose at the end of their 1st year. Ichinose was tense that time thinking that she is not a good leader and wanted Ayanokoji's help or some advice but Ayanokoji told her she is good at the same time she need to change a few things as well and then he asked Ichinose to come and meet him in his room again a year later at the end of their 2nd year. Now, with Kei Karuizawa gone and since Ichinose has already confessed to Ayanokoji, I think he planned it all along to get together and start a relationship with Ichinose at the end of their 2nd year.

Ayanokoji has said it himself numerous times that Kei is the strongest piece and its insane how good she is at most things according to him.
Only thing Ichinose is good at is how to be on the good side of everyone and she can do anything for that even get herself expelled for other's sake.
He has promised her that he will never let her get expelled and is trying to change her attitude ever since.

Horikita even called out Ayanokoji by saying "You don't have to force yourself to say such things" when he said that Sakura was the one who deserved to be expelled

Like the guy above me said; she isn't fit to be a true leader. Out of all the class leaders/masterminds, she's the weakest. She may have been superior to Horikita, but Horikita has been maturing big time.

In Kanzaki's case, I'd say he does have the edge, but it is too dull. Kanzaki can also be careless as well, despite him being smart.

@@magnus7763 I might miss some points and I would like other LN readers to correct me if I made some mistakes, so anyway, there is an end of the year kind of an exam where the each classes gets to choose a person to expel in their own class( I wont explain other additional rules and details), anyway, it is guaranteed to have one student expel in each class. Due to ichinose's attitude or i dunno ideals(?) she seems to want to take the route of power of friendship(just a joke dont take it seriously) and wants to pay up the minimum amount of points( which is expensive and i forgot the actual amount) to save their classmate from expulsion. Unfortunately, even if they combined the whole class' points, they cant pay the amount.

So what happens was that ayanokouji knows ryuenn and his group (ishizaki,albert,ibuki,hiyori(?)) because he is the reason why ryuenn is in this predicament. and just acts as a mediator while ryuenn's squad gives the necessary amount of points to cover the payment on ichinose's side while ichinose's whole class will vote to save ryuenn(also i will say these rules cause it happened to be necessary , but each student gets to have 3 votes of saving, 3 votes for nominating to expel and only i think 1 vote of saving can be given by each student to vote for someone in another class) hence ryuenn was not expelled and ichinose's class bankrupt(lol)
