I went to Colonnades for the first time in decades last year, it actually surprised me how nice and clean the shopping centre was with a friendly vibe. Even the few sketchy looking people weren't all that sketchy lol. Not at all like I remember it in the 90s, although I'm sure the area still does have its problems.

I oddly miss collonades 😂 another awesome mate. Hopefully you get enough for a video when you come back to the mount. Looking forward to your northern suburbs videos too
I lived in this area during the 80s. The green area was pretty much a no-go area unless you wanted to participate, and we would just walk the long way around inside the centre. Was way too hectic in there. Walking home after catching the 73 in the dark on the pathways behind the ice rink was probably dangerous but i was too nieve to know any better. Like most places if you keep to yourself you are less likely to get hassled. When the old redhen trains took off from the station it would fill the place with diesel smoke. There used to be a little kiosk up on the train concourse that would sell the paper tickets and multipass, and sometimes cigarettes and then youd get greeted by people waiting in the shadows haha.
Green area was definitely a no-go zone when I was still around. And like you said, you went to participate. Otherwise you’d never walk through there.. I also remember the kiosk at the train station but I’m too young to remember the diesel smoke trains haha. Compared to when I was 16 say, it’s dead around there. If I went to Traino and green area at 8:30 on a Thursday back then it’d have been hundreds of people. I seen like 4 youngins in green area and they walked right through into shops 😅 no one was around, anywhere.
@@BOBSTA.official whole area is and was safe always was even the hardest looking blokes were nice if you spoke to them and treated everyone like humans. All the fear was in peoples heads tbh
Was a child in the 80s here as well, folks and sister and various other friends still live South. I've never ever had a problem, caught the buses (WOO Hackham West Loop baby!) and sure, every area has it's problems, but I'm always astounded when people think it's 'dangerous'. Was always at Noarlunga Interchange to catch high school bus to Morphett Vale (didn't go to Christies High, but plenty of other mates did). If people could just stop kicking the crap out of each other for largely no reason, that'd be great. Adore those ladies in their 50s that jumped in on a teen brawl up in TTP a week or so again. They we're basically like "Not on my watch". Go mums!

@tonybarnett508 and aged pension, while appreciated, is nowhere near enough to live on without supplemental income, unless of course you have no mortgage or subsidised rental.
Went into the video trying to see graff from the area and ended up Finding out that the area i kick around in is the most dangerous in SA 😂😂 Good work as always mate. Stoked that a few of my scribbles made it into the vid too 🔥🤙
As somebody that works in the centre. The green area still gets a bit of action at night. Especially if it's a warm evening there will be people drinking. No police presence at all. A lot of the action now is at the bus shelter next to the Thirsty Camel that connects to the Tavern
Lovin the vids mate keep up the great work. As a south Aussie my self it's amazing to see so many homeless people its pretty clear that the government dont really care. But keep up the great vids mate can't wait to see part 8.
I never liked The Colonnades shopping centre. I didn't care about the people, just didn't like the vibe of that huge building. On the contrary, I had some good time at the Tafe college Noarlunga. I currently live in Woodcroft and I only go to Colonnades to visit a Commonwealth bank there. I went there today, parked my car and saw some older lady fell down. Luckily she got herself up very quickly and walked on like nothing had happened to her. I have a lot of memories of the Noarlunga hospital because my late mother was there many times. They looked after her very well and let me visit her every time of the day and night. Thanks for the video, very short and informative. All the best from Woodcroft!
I lived in hackham West for many years my kids went to hackham West primary and I used to shop at Colonnades my dad used to live at Christie’s Beach We left in 1995 and thank God I did . I love South Australia and I do miss it but it’s a shame to see it going like this down south
The building was uniting care elenora which was a homeless shelter for 30+years, closed in 2017 due to operating at a loss for an extended period due to declining numbers of occupants who paid a small sum of rent, they said the only way to operate in a surplus was if they were at capacity.
We're trying so hard to get community housing back on the agenda as a strong third option. I'm super lucky to live in a housing coop for the past 9 years. Had our first ACHA Summit this past October. Australian Community Housing Alliance. Sad to hear that Uniting Care abandoned this site. Perhaps worth an email to them, and the City of Onkaparinga?
How do I not know "Bobsta"?! Went to Christie's, grew up at Noarlunga Downs. That homeless man literally lives right near where I used to live. That building actually used to be a men's homeless shelter before it was closed down.
Please do Port Adelaide. It turned rubbish started in 2000's until it was fixed up late 2010's. It used to be empty and rubbish for over 10 years until council tried to revive Port Adelaide. Council took too long to fix the problem.

Great video again mate Colonnades is a great shopping centre and the tavern is ok all the times I’ve been there Don’t know if you’ve heard of Shane Gregory but he’s related to me great lad and a bit of a graffiti artist a few years back
It makes me angry seeing so many homeless people all around Australia. The Aussie economy has just been through our highest gdp thirty year period, the government has received record amounts of income due to things like the mining boom, yet we can't even provide low income housing or decent mental health support for those in the community that need it . Failed policies from successive governments has made the gap between the working class and the wealthy huge. Makes me angry just thinking about it. Another good video Bobsta , well done highlighting these low socio economic areas and all the decent people who exist in them .
GDP may be high, but per capita, we've had multiple quarters in a row of negative growth. Everyone not already wealthy is doing it much, much tougher today as we are in very real terms poorer, and it's a complete failure on the part of our government and their corporate mates. It's all by design. It is every Australian's duty to put the majors LAST this coming election.
@AvenirRacing yeah man it's getting to be like the USA , we have people working full time that can't afford rent yet alone purchase a property, the middle class in Australia is no longer existing, it's now a situation of the wealthy and the poor . I feel sorry for the youth, Australia will never be the land of opportunity that it was for me growing up in the 70's and 80's. The two party system has decimated our lifestyle.
@@Girtbyfools 100%. This is no longer the great country I grew up in. Such a shame. Even seeing the tents at the bottom of the hill near the wetlands was wild. It's been a good 15 years since I lived in SA, but I was only a couple minute's walk from that clearing on the corner. Never ever saw tents back then. Our 'leaders' have a lot to answer for.
@AvenirRacing I left south Australia in 2021 and already they had multiple tent cities in the parklands, unfortunately Brisbane has the same even country towns have homeless camps in Queensland. Government incompetence and greed has fcked the Aussie lifestyle, the two party system is a failure and needs to go, it's our only hope of getting some of the good stuff back
@Girtbyfools I dunno I think I'm still middle class...sure as hell not rich, but thankfully nowhere near homeless or tent city. But absolutely feeling the pinch and forced to work well beyond 70. 🥺
Respect your efforts man! I guess the crowd size has died down a lot, cause we can just chill at home if we have a place even? Cheers for keeping it real! Cheers PJ
Good work mate. Am very familiar with all the southern suburbs having grown up down that way myself. Some good, fun times from the 80s and 90s that I'll always remember. Always thought how lucky I was to be growing up near the beach even though one of the areas I lived in, Christie Downs housing trust, did have some trouble. I think surfing occupied a lot of my time and kept me out of mischief.
I know of a girl who was murdered at Noarlunga coming back from seeing her dad. Was really sad left behind 2 girls etc. I never been out that way i always like to go check out new shopping cneters and take the train around SA. But Noarlunga was one place i can't go to because of that poor girl.
Fark!!! The good old tafe in Noarlunga I was sent there from seacliff over some bs meeting some different crowds of people from there always had house party’s in this area! At 16/17 meeting someone with their ps just crusing all hours of the day and go and smoke blunts mid cooking lesson breaks 😅
Hey bro that abandoned building in noarlunga downs was called the ellanora centre, a place where recovering addicts would try and get there life back on track i lived across the park from it hectic
I moved back down this way for the past 7 years. It's fairly chill these days besides the odd scuffle at Colonnades. But i got street smarts living my life in the hoods where respect and keeping your mouth shut is everything
Problems mentioned in this video werent restricted to just noarlunga, which has always been a sh!+hole. elizabeth area was equally as bad. I spent my time on the street in the 80's. I didn’t even have a tent, end up in multiple youth shelters, renting cheap caravan further south, great life for a lone teenager. that area brings back memories I'd rather not relive. Great Job! cheers.
Have you checked out the block near bus station in city, 2 story building, used to be full of shops now just abandoned sitting in middle of adelaide next to bus station but it was a home and still is for many, it was on fire last year, was on news as well, but building is still up and very big
In the USA they turning malls/offices into housing(apartments) since people are shopping online and working from home now. Commercial real estate is becoming worthless. Maybe that could be part of the solution? I know the government are looking at turning office in apartments in Adelaide. One in five offices are empty in Australia.
Definitely got that right. Noarlunga the worst suburb to be in at anytime of day or night. I'm from Elizabeth but have family living in Noarlunga now. it's only safe there for who you know. I still s*** my pants from this day seeing family & friends that have moved to Noarlunga. That's saying something. 😂
Aren't they raising the rent etc to try and remove the low economic people to move in the "rich" to increase the value of the area? It's an ongoing issue, thank you for raising awareness and showing what it's like. I've been to Noarlunga plenty of times and had no idea about all the tents. I hope those people who are homeless will be okay.
Hopefully I catch you around in Town when you do and Episode of Mount Gambier, I'll say g'day and shout you a drink brother. Got mad videos of punch on's down here they happen almost every single weekend during night time at our small nightclubs/pubs. Sadly I'm in one of them not proud of it though as I rather just have a chill night out with the boys
It’s sad man but it’s real the cost of living in SA is fkn a joke. Many more tents to go up too as we’re all struggling or just getting by. On ya Bobsta
The tavern there is the only pub where I've seen barriers/fencing on top of the bar to protect staff etc. I've never really had a problem in and around Colonnades though. A lot of ferals, but just mind your business & it's not much worse than Marion.
I found that quite interesting. I live in Seaford so less than 10 mins from Noarlunga Centre and I had no idea about that place they call tent city. I used to catch the train which went to Noarlunga at night after my city night classes and I myself only once ever got scared during that (when a drunk guy went off on the train). My ex used to go to the Noarlunga Tafe at night once a week when we were together and I used to often go with him and hang out around Noarlunga at night with no issues at all. Anyway, I'm shocked to hear that Noarlunga Centre has the second highest crime rate in the state.
I just want to note that the Christie’s Beach High School young Mums program has the highest rate because they can’t attend other schools. A majority of the young mums have actually come from other schools.
You are right when you say the cost of living really has crippled people, I've noticed tents popping up all over the south now..something that (until the last couple) I've years I've never seen in the 30+ years I've lived here. There's something really wrong when you have working class people who are simply unable to keep up with the cost of living..rent has become obscene, the more awareness that is brought to that the better..shit simply can't keep going the way it is
Well said i lived at christies Beach and noarlunga downs early 2000's avoid the area now. Was getting rough when i lived there. I didnt go to any schools that end of town as i had family closer to the city i would do school there.
Seriously I hate living in the southern area especially around Noarlunga to Seaford meadows, to be honest since the early 2000s when I was a teenager, I was builled, teased and just the worse place in the whole of SA to be living at the time, and now I don't go to colonnades ever again cause it's gotten shrunk like a shithole a d the security who patrol colonnades are a bunch of bullies especially one dude who has no teeth in his mouth and no hair, bullying someone like a tall gentle giant like me who just wants to sit down have a meal in the food court but no he can't cause of of some little feral lowlife who works at the colonnades Macca's,accusing him of stalking her when he just going to the toilet and then minding his own business, how pathetic are some people
I love the security people at Colonnades as they always show up so quickly whenever I'm there and have a health emergency. Only about 5 weeks ago I collapsed while going down the escalator there causing a bit of chaos as I was on the floor of the moving escalator (one person on it above me then started screaming) and 2 security men were right there by the time I was from the lift and on the floor at the bottom of it. Before my own support worker who was there with me informed me that I was a bit exposed as my dress had ripped in this incident, the security guy warned me about it.
Great video. I’m an old Kent now but you know when I was a teen we used to hang out en masse at shopping centres too. It’s not a new thing or unique to your generation. I imagine your children and grandchildren will do similar things but maybe at different types of venues. Cheers.
I wonder if we went to christies together or ran with the same crowd. I was knocking around nades in like 2009 - 2012. Nickname was Fluffy. Left christies in 2008 to study at tafe.
I thought Ingle Farm High School was bad! Wow Noarlunga Centre, that wouldn't surprise me at all. 😮 I'm born and bred in Adelaide and thank God I stay in my area.
g,day from portnoarlunga you nailed it dude great work. If there are any crew from between 1993 and 1996 that went to christies high with me drop a reply it be good to here from ya we are survivors of the southern hoods.
I'm old enough to remember when colonaids was being built. There was a gang fight between two gangs, the Skinheads and the Rockers were one of the skinheads was shot in the leg with a shotgun. Or dose anyone remember the young lad who shot the copper inside the Christies cop shop. Cliff T.
Maybe but that’d be at the train station. I’ve actually never seen a train just stop like that before except for my painting days… I think he maybe seen me filming and thought something was about to happen, not realising I was filming for B-roll haha

Great Job! cheers.
Quite a few streetwalkers in that area on some nights too. People are damn desperate trying to me make ends meet.
Have you checked out the block near bus station in city, 2 story building, used to be full of shops now just abandoned sitting in middle of adelaide next to bus station but it was a home and still is for many, it was on fire last year, was on news as well, but building is still up and very big
Went to Noarlguna TAFE in early 2009, used to hate when i had to pass through the court area on my lunch breaks, always sketchy people hanging around
@@FreddyStairs good points!
Hey, you got to get on noblet st findon before it's fully renovated

Cool content
Seen this episode twice before along all your other episodes
Yeah man and the train station was packed to 😂
Yeaa bro I forgot to say that 😅 Traino is where the big fights went down hah
Hopefully I catch you around in Town when you do and Episode of Mount Gambier, I'll say g'day and shout you a drink brother.
Got mad videos of punch on's down here they happen almost every single weekend during night time at our small nightclubs/pubs.
Sadly I'm in one of them not proud of it though as I rather just have a chill night out with the boys
It’s sad man but it’s real the cost of living in SA is fkn a joke. Many more tents to go up too as we’re all struggling or just getting by. On ya Bobsta

Here we go! 🎉 Wish we could tag the pollies. 😡
The tavern there is the only pub where I've seen barriers/fencing on top of the bar to protect staff etc. I've never really had a problem in and around Colonnades though. A lot of ferals, but just mind your business & it's not much worse than Marion.
Aye shout out to Bruce for the lift what a legend
@@gazby2238 😅🙌 Saved me a good cpl hours walking the area spot to spot for sure.
@ that’s it man good of him to help you out :)
Wasn't just hectic 12,13 years ago ,that place been hectic for decades 😂
There's something really wrong when you have working class people who are simply unable to keep up with the cost of living..rent has become obscene, the more awareness that is brought to that the better..shit simply can't keep going the way it is
@@TheOzarkAOD 💯 sad but so so true.
i don't understand the bad rap that noarlunga colonnades gets . I go there all the time with my kids. No issues whatsoever.
IM AN OLD HALLET SCHOOL KID
LOV THIS VID
Well said i lived at christies Beach and noarlunga downs early 2000's avoid the area now. Was getting rough when i lived there. I didnt go to any schools that end of town as i had family closer to the city i would do school there.
Glad i got out of there in the late 90s
3:27 I think That Train Passed the Signal When It Was Red
Great video. I’m an old Kent now but you know when I was a teen we used to hang out en masse at shopping centres too. It’s not a new thing or unique to your generation. I imagine your children and grandchildren will do similar things but maybe at different types of venues. Cheers.
I wonder if we went to christies together or ran with the same crowd. I was knocking around nades in like 2009 - 2012. Nickname was Fluffy. Left christies in 2008 to study at tafe.
Lived in Noarlunga Centre + Downs a total 7 years (2009-2016)
It was ok in the beginning but by the end of it, it was no better than Hackham.
Great work ❤ Does anyone remember the Mitton family from Nevis Crt ?
Cliff T.
Elizabeth South action packed😂
I remember the old red hens between christies and Noarlunga a bit different back in the late 70s
Yes me too.. and how stinky they were.
Christies high school was absolutely terrible..
The people were absolutely bad..
3:35 dont they stop to take time so theyre not early for the destination stop? Which avoids a crash, too.
Maybe but that’d be at the train station.
I’ve actually never seen a train just stop like that before except for my painting days…
I think he maybe seen me filming and thought something was about to happen, not realising I was filming for B-roll haha
@BOBSTA.official I remember when I lived in Sydney this haopeend and it has something to do with the sensors on the tracks for the times they're supposed to click over certain spots on the tracks to be on time. You famous so he stopped. 🙃💯
@ 🤣🤣 you funny cnt aha , I wasn’t thinking he stopped like for “me” 🙏😅 but maybe that I was filming someone about todo something. I catch that train often they’ve never stopped there b4 so I was like “tf”
@ Maddcnt
@@BOBSTA.officialyeah, I think it was because he was waiting for the signal to change green from red. Trains aren’t allowed the pass a red signal otherwise it locks up the emergency brakes.
I've always wondered where they came up with the name Honeypot 🐝
Must come from the old country saying "Stuck like bees on a honeypot"
I always park my car at the back end of Noarlunga shopping centre around Wolies and Anytime fitness to avoid walking through the green area.
Even back in the late 90's collenades had an angry vibe about it . Went up there for work a few times and there was always something dodgy going down. Looks like nothing has changed
