    You can get family heirlooms plated with whatever gold you like. Then in the future they can take it off and put it back to yellow. Over time I think it fades if you use it a lot. I have to get my wedding set replated in the rhodium or whatever it is to make the white gold really shine.
    I believe a lot of silver pieces are also plated

      I was thinking the same thing. The process is that they polish the item and then coat it with rhodium. It looks dazzling. Most white gold is rhodium coated.
