- I had a client , that saw my live edge desk build, ask if i could design and build a live edge coffee table to add some flair to their living room. I've been trying to step up my woodworking game with every project, so i accepted! This table is built from sweet gum and uses only mortise and tennon joinery.

Very cool!!! Awesome Job!!
Thanks Jake!!! I appreciate it buddy
I love this, that's the kind of coffee table I would LOOOOVE in my living room: all live-edge wood from tabletop to legs! Four dislikes must be from rough wood slabs waiting in your workshop to be cut and sanded down. Very cool job!
Lauren Pau thanks so much! This is one of my favorite pieces I’ve ever done! And it was for my mom so i get to visit it often 😉
That grain 😍 it turned out awesome I watched the build on IG and it turned out awesome dude 🤜🏽
If only I could do that with Koa wood. very nice build.
That is amazing I really like it after all the varnish
Thanks! It’s one of my favorites!
The spalting looks awesome! Nice job!

Nadhera 😍
so beautiful!!!! I have a spalted maple piece want to finish and was worried if the holes arent filled in with epoxy they will get bigger? any thoughts?
Nothing is making them bigger. You can fill with epoxy or CA glue if it makes you feel better, but it’s just for aesthetics. Unless the holes are on top where they’ll gather dust/crumbs. Thanks for watching!
Hi, hope you're doing great. I really love the way you build this, especially the legs without a bar. I have a 2' x 4' slab but unfortunately I don't have extra slabs for legs. Will it be rock solid with 1.5" T hard wood if I use tenon mortise with 1" depth? Is there any suggestion that I can get from you?
Yes. The materials you have would work fine as long as the joints are cut well to join the legs to the top.
Thank you, I will give it a try and let you know the result.
I love it man, I am actually in the process of cutting some 9'x30"x3" slabs out of an old (roughly 100yrs) huge gorgeous white oak that fell during the last hurricane that tore up Texas and Louisiana. I have marked 2 coffee tables, 2 end tables, 1 night stand, and 2 dining tables out of it for now, with future plans for the leftovers, and there's lots of leftovers, lol.
What are the dimensions, and do you have any suggestions, and is there anything that you would've done differently?
Thank you in advance and keep up the amazing work man.
I sold this piece , and i didn’t use plans or dimensions for it. Just go with your guy for the proper size. The only thing I would change is i would create a jig to set the angle of the mortises for the legs. I had to cut all that by hand due to lack of proper planning. Good luck 👍🏻
Was there a reason for not using any kind of center stabilization bar on the bottom legs? Some that connects them? Preference?
Just wanted a very minimal design for this one. And as chunky as the legs were it didn’t need any other support. When it was done i stood atop the table and it had no give at all.

How thick is the table top and what depth did you carve out for the leg inserts? Also - how did you get the legs to sit at that angle?
The top on this piece is about an inch and a half, but it can be whatever you would like. A typical mortise is 1/3 the depth of the material (in this case it was 1/2”) for the leg to rest in. Finally the top of the legs had the desired angle and the mortise in the bottom of the tabletop matched that angle. Hope that helps you and THANKS FOR WATCHING!
@@dimensionswoodworks Thank you very much for the reply! All understood..
What tool were you using at the start to strip off the bark?
Brad Callahan it’s a Draw Knife.
So the glue held those legs to the table? With that angle?
Yes it did. Been there for years ….
The name of the song at 4:33??
Beautiful work and editing btw!
Thanks Shane. All my music comes from a copyright free site, Epidemicsound.com. Don’t remember the name of the specific song , that build was over a year ago. I appreciate you checking it out 👍🏻
Awesome, thank you.
I'm really interested in getting into wood working as a hobby. Is there any videos or books you would reccomend for a beginner?
Shane tindall RUclips is a tremendous resource. You can watch woodworking videos on nearly any topic. Fine woodworking is also a great place to go for written articles and they also have books available as well. Good luck and enjoy your new hobby!
That music though.... Thumbs down. Sorry
Can’t please everyone...
