  • I picked up a Samsung 5 series for pretty cheap, it was actually free because it wouldn't turn on, turns out the charger was dead, bought a new one for $25, spent $85 on a used stick of 4GB RAM and a used 256GB SSD off eBay, and now this laptop flies!
    This was just a quick weekend project, since making this video I have already finish the laptop up completely and sold it on eBay.

    Nice video! I've had this laptop since late 2014, and I wasn't even the first owner. About a year ago I was already looking for a new laptop but decided to do these exact same upgrades instead. It cost me some 130€ since I bought the parts new from local retailers, but it was totally worth it since it made the laptop feel like new again. One thing I really like about this laptop is that despite being an ultrabook, the HDD/SSD and RAM slots are so easily reachable instead of being hidden under the main cover that is held on by like ten screws. Currently I'm planning to install a brand new battery and maybe apply some fresh thermal paste between the fan and the CPU since I'm getting pretty high temperatures while doing ordinary stuff. It's a shitty CPU, but I kinda like this laptop otherwise so why not try to breathe some new life into it :D

      +Joona Salmela I use IC Diamond thermal compound, it's the best you can get for non-conductive compound which is ideal for laptops that move around. I have another video of a different laptop I still gotta upload but I dropped quite a few degrees just by switching compound

      Thanks for the tip, I'll have a look if I can find that product around here where I live! I think it's going to make a positive effect since I've never replaced the thermal compound for the CPU.

      Joona Salmela if you can't find it locally, when shopping online they usually use a stock image, and the only difference between the 7 and 24 carats varients is the weight, 7 carat is enough for one or two laptops, 24 carats will be enough for 5+, I'm still yet to use all of my 24 carat tube and I've done 5 laptops with dedicated video cards (two applications per laptop).
      Hope that helps.

      I exclusively use Thermal Grizzly compounds now. For this laptop, if you used Kryonaut, it would make a really good impact to heat dissipation. Also if you try Windows 10, make sure it's a MBR USB installer. Like download the ISO from microsoft, not the USB creator tool. And use Rufus to make the USB installer with the ISO, and set UEFI GPT to CSM/Legacy MBR instead and it should boot on that laptop fine.

    thank u for your video
    but i have a question
    U use DDR3L ram
    So, does it goes with U smoothly and without problem or blue screen ?
    I'm waiting for ur answer

      The only difference between DDR3 and DDR3L is DDR3 can only run at 1.5v, and DDR3L can adjust from 1.35v to 1.5v as it's required. It's exactly the same, DDR3L is just better because it's more compatible with a multiple assortment of systems.

    Maximum RAM?

    • @frozennorthproductions
      @frozennorthproductions  4 года назад +1

      8GB is the maximum supported amount, a 16GB module will not read and the laptop will just turn on and off at boot.

      @@frozennorthproductions hello I also have this pc I already have 8 GB of ram and 500GB SSD, I read on some site that reads 12 GB is it true? i: Samsung 5 series ultra NP530U3C-A04AU, intel i5 3317U thanks..

      @@vincent4373 no, unfortunately there would have been different models of this that had either 2gb or 4gb of RAM integrated into the motherboard, so what you've heard of would have been 4gb soldered to the board from factory, and 8gb So-dimm in the slot, you would have to change your motherboard with the 4gb RAM model to achieve this.
