Before Miss Badu was a singer she was a school teacher teaching our young children's you can just she is very intelligent & extremely bright wow I am absolutely memorized & speechless all the same time wow! I am so very proud of you Miss Badu and every blessed things you've accomplished with your life here in planet earth in such a short time . Sincerely your loyal fan!
By the 1950s, Afro-Cuban music powered many jazz hits like "Afro Blue," composed by great Cuban percussionist Mongo Santamaría, became the first true jazz standard built on a 3:2 clave pattern. The music became increasingly mainstream, and eventually non-Cuban musicians ran with the form... and continue 70y after.
This Robert Glasper album is just extraordinary from beginning to end ..this along with the Lalah Hathaway track are my favorite's..oh yea and his rendition of "smells like teen spirit" is also a favorite.
Your comment about the little black girls catching hell resonated with me big time. When I see our little black sweeties running around happy, innocent, and hopeful, I feel for them growing up in the American culture where most think that white is the only right and that anything black is sub-par. I think that many of us could use a paradigm shift in order to move ahead of the war on our minds.
+Bria Larine (Bria Larine) Have the heard the album?? Robert Glasper Experiment Black Radio 1 & 2 has Erykah, but 1 has Afro Blue for the second track.
Mongo Santamaria, a Black Cuban, wrote the music to Afro-Blue in the mid or late 1950s. Oscar Brown added lyrics. I had vinyl versions of this song that were performed by Mongo Santamaria, McCoy Tyner, John Coltrane, and Oscar Brown, among others. Max Roach also recorded a version of Afro Blue with Abbey Lincoln.
Abby Lincoln is in heaven smiling at Erykah. So are Mongo Santamaria, Max Roach,Oscar Brown, Jr. and John Coltrane. Erykah's singing reminds me of Miles Davis from mid 1950s; she makes good use of space in her music. Not as intense as Coltrane's "Live At Birdland" version, but definitely memorable.
Robert Glasper's Black Radio album, to this day is still one of my all time albums. He blends Neo-Soul and Jazz so perfectly. Every song on this album is gem!!
Abby Lincoln, Roscoe Brown, Mongo Santamaria, Tito Puente, and John Coltrane are all in heaven smiling down on Erykah Badu for introducing this jazz classic to the 21st century generation.
+Kendra Lynette What a beautiful genre??? Things that make you go hummmh? A what some would refer to as a ten dollar word would make some think that the a had a real intellect on there hands.

Nice tribute to one of the most underrated ARTIST in the game. She shouldn't just have a cult following. But I dig she prefers that over the bullshit the music industry spews! She is not only the owner of a beautiful vocal style she is a VOICE! Love you Mrs. or Ms. or Miss Badu!
Some of the greatest names in jazz did this song, but this ultracool, afro american rhythmic take is by far my favourite...pulls the melancholy out of the composition and matures it beautifully.
I think Erykah should go back to this type of music, the music we fell in love with. She is such a talent and a consumate performer no doubt. I know it's hard sometimes to stay true to the music you love to do because of the industry being so evil, but I've always thought that Erykahs talents were so artistically proven that she would never let the industry steer her away from the kind of music that brought her fans so much joy.
I had the DVD of Dave Chappelle's Block Party, when Erykah took off that afro wig cause it was too windy out and kept on singing like it was nothing lol ...she dgaf and I love it
She and Robert Glasper re-rarranged this composition by the great Afro-Cuban Latin jazz percussionist and congero, Mongo Santamaría. Do some homework and find out from whom and where the origins this music were born
This is so true brotha... I have been loced (Dreads) for 13 years and each year I celebrate my freedom from opression... hair opression... #Free and now I must pass the torch to every young sista I meet... set yourself free... # Natural
Peace y'all. Karega Ani here. I am one of the co-producers of this track. Amp will always be one of the most soulful individuals who ever walked the earth...I am grateful to have sat at his feet...I am grateful to have called him my friend. Rule in Power, Dear Brother #CampAmp
Erykah was truly inspired on this one. The poetry is so strong and beautiful. At 3:14 with that hair wrap, and those brown eyes, she looks like a goddess.

Black Radio Experiment is the name of album, so high!

Don’t let the Americans hear this. They hate it when other people say different cultures influenced their music. 😂
Thank you for the info. For realm as a half cuban hearing this really makes me proud. I gotta learn more of my roots
It's a BEMBE' rhythm in 6/8. Ubep
Quarantine with Erykah Badu ANYONE?? 🎧 🆗️
This Robert Glasper album is just extraordinary from beginning to end ..this along with the Lalah Hathaway track are my favorite's..oh yea and his rendition of "smells like teen spirit" is also a favorite.
Jazz and hip-hop joining forces for the win. With Erykah's vocals putting everything over the top as usual.
Just now finding this gem in 2021 and I am speechless
Neo Soul music pioneer Erykah Badu.
Just a beautiful song 🎵
just in this moment, I think this is the most beautiful song in the universe

How cool!!
There is another version and it's sexy too
My theme song for black excellence and afro-futurism.
Says the guy whose last name is "Oxenfire," smdh. Go back to your cave.
aahahahh

May she give you afro-americans more power to process the past.
Music = love

KSmall, if you haven’t heard it yet check out out Erykah and Robert Glasper’s reimagining of Miles’ song Maiysha. An absolute gem.
@@kenmeyer6786 Thanks!

This one was the gateway drug for me to Robert Glasper.
+KuttyJoe Best gateway ever!
Same ! Haven't looked back since.
Glasper and Badu are a match made in heaven. I found Glasper on Pandora on my jazz station
Laura Gwillim went to his concert last year...it was like chillin' in heaven with a glass of wine temporarily.
Same! First heard this on a flight from the west coast to NYC. Loved it ever since.
I can listen to this allllll day as I clean house, paint and draw.

I don’t think Erykah made any “bad” songs. This is soothing 💙💙💙💙💙
Miss Badu you will never know how many times you have uplifted my soul.
She is magical if Mother Nature had a voice
ONE OF THE BADDEST EVER
LYRICS:
Dream of a land my soul is from
I hear a hand stroke on the drum
Shades of delight
Cocoa hue
Rich as the night
Afro blue
Elegant boy
Beautiful girl
Dancing for joy
Delicate whirl
Shades of delight
Cocoa hue
Rich as the night
Afro blue
Two young lovers dance face to face
With undulating grace
They gently sway
Then slip away
To some secluded place
Dream of a land my soul is from
I hear a hand stroke on the drum
Shades of delight
Cocoa hue
Rich as the night
Afro blue
Elegant boy
Beautiful girl…
Beautiful!

She is amazing. Wouldn't be surprised if she was from a different dimension - planet soul...or something.
Donovan Dunlap she a woke black women ....brother its in you to.... #remember who you are
She's from the same planet(s) as Sun Ra, Jimi, Miles, Coltrane and George Clinton
Where I'm trying to get to. Just waiting on the Mother Ship.
She is like Hendrix, George Clinton and the mothership she is not human she is from another galaxy and came into our planet to deliver us great music
We are all from the same place, and it is called the source. She just happens to be consciously aware of it.
Love Erykah. You can hear the roots of Billie Holiday in her singing and interpretation. Smooth and I love the bass line.
I swear she's Billie spirit reincarnated
"DREAM OF A LAND MY SOUL IS FROM" that should get your attention!
Brandie Gray 💙one of the best lines ever...thanks for pointing it out.
Brandie Gray lyrics are added by Oscar Brown, in case you wondered, to Afro Blue, a Jazz classic from Mongo Santamaria, an Afro Cuban.
sometimes that line just pumps up in my head. deep meaning
Nicole Grey #EXACTLY
If you've ever seen her in concert, this woman is as, JJ from Good times would say, an ARTIST! She runs the show.
