Okay first off this was so fun! I’m really manifesting the pdf option while still purchasing a paper chart, I love my pattern binder and supporting my ONS’s, but the functionality of a PDF is unmatched!
There is a famous singer, who was on TV having an interview. and they were showing her dining room. they commented on her chairs because there were beautiful flowers on each of her chairs. she had either” needle pointed or cross stitched all those flowers on her chairs. it was a massive dining room. But she said she had time to do all that while she was on tour.
What a great video! I would agree, I bet there are a lot of cross stitchers out there that don’t know this community exists. I have been a cross stitcher for the last 20 years and just discovered this whole community in 2024!
I LOVE this trend video. BRING ON the pink witches and the designs done in Nocturne purple (the Kona color of the year) on Mocha Mousse!! Also thank you for the discussion on AI in cross stitch and art in general. I appreciate hearing your take.
I have been stitching since I was a kid in the 70s, my first piece was a Holly Hobbie. So many of the things you are saying reminds me of how everything eventually comes back into style, 😅! I have done it all, as you were going down your list I was going, yes, done that, yes, done that...I stitched black samplers in the 90s, stitched with waste canvas onto jackets and sweat shirts, even a little elephant onto my son's little onesie he wore home from the hospital in 1994. We stitched onto tea and hand towels and yes we used them, stitched animals, unicorns, I made 2 Shepherd's Bush stockings for my sons on 7 count burlap, so it's funny to see it all coming around again. Will we see geese and teddy bears? Oh my! 😅 For myself, I am enjoying stitching up patterns and kits I have had for years and years. I am on a "no buy" year, my goal is to complete several "bucket list" pieces, such as Santa of the Forest by Lavender and Lace. He's only been waiting his turn for 35 years! This is his year! Many other ladies in my stitching group are doing something similar, but we are all in our 50s & 60s, the reality is setting in that it's now or never for these beautiful old patterns. I have taught my daughter-in-law to stitch, so I'm doing what I can to bring young people in. I also knit and quilt, and I'm taking tge same approach with those, no buying yarn or fabric this year, it's time to turn this huge stash into objects we can enjoy. That will give me tremendous satisfaction at the end of 2025, so I'm focusing on that.
What a fun topic! I have no predictions for the industry or myself HAHA. I predict I will buy more than I need... and then feel glutinous about it later... and claim a no buy...that will be inevitable broken...and lead to a destash...so I can fund more shopping... I'll check in and let you know how it goes! LOL Also, the AI sitch is outta control!
OMG I would LOVE if we got a PDF copy with purchase of a paper copy. it's like when I would get a Ripped copy of the CD I bought. The BEST of both worlds!!!
Digital copies of a paper chart you bought is very big from Russian and Ukrainian designers and I love that! The Seattle Sitcher was the one who let me know Dimensions does it too! I emailed them recently proof I owned their kit and they emailed a pdf super quick. With the increase in tech to support cross stitch (saga, markup, notion templates) having a digital cross stitch library really is my preference
I think you are on target with your projections. I am stitching from my stash this year. I am not boycotting buying I just realize I bought all these charts for a reason so I need to stitch them. I want to be more intentional with my stitch dollars. I am also going to FFO this year instead of storing my finishes. Thought provoking video …❤
I am following the trend stitching my stash to save a few bucks, cost of things ( craft items and just basic needs like food and utilities) are creeping up
Super fun video! I think it will be a "use what you have" year because of the economy. For international stitchers it will be harder to get supplies. I have started just buying white linen and dyeing it myself. As much as I would love to buy pretty fabrics from small companies, I can't justify doing that now. The Norwegian crown is absolutely worthless against the US dollar right now, and by the time the product reaches me the price has increased with about 50% (with insane shipping rates, taxes and customs fees).
Single redeem PDF patterns (Ravelry codes) for paper copies have been a thing for over a decade in the knitting community, I would love to see it in other crafts!
What a great video! I am working on my 2025 Nashville Market prep and it was so fun to listen along to your predictions and agree with most of your stuff! I'm excited to see if any of your predictions are validated in early March.
Very interesting predictions. I sure hope the aida surge is true. That's all I stitch on! And the larger count is fun. I bought Satsuma streets BRIGHT pattern and cant wait to start it.
Great discussion! For me, it all comes down to price. I noticed that some designers have really increased their prices for their charts. I can appreciate that for paper charts but for pdf? I wait for sales and take advantage of free charts, so I really appreciate your videos on free charts. I have learned to dye my own fabric so a bolt of Aida is right up my alley. I joined a fabric club but with shipping costs, it is really prohibitive so I have cancelled my subscription. Thanks for this ladies! 👏👏
I do mark up my patterns and don’t feel bad, no working copy. I feel that I’m the only one who is supposed to use that and if I save it to re sell or give to someone is taking away from a sale for the artist. Great video!!
I agree with the AI I joined a stamped cross stitch group on the recommendation of someone Although the recess some that appeared to me there was something stopping me buying I realised that what was missing was the soul To me the faces had all the same dead look Even some of the cute ones I really hope AI is not the future & actual artist fade away AI can be hysterical though if it’s being used for sub-titles as it does not recognise regional accents! Looking forward to see how many of your predictions come true!
Our local designer Nadezhda Grigorieva has a series of cats that are inspired by famous paintings. They're really cool! You can certainly see the reference, but it's still a cute animal.
You can get stamped 9 and 11 count but I don’t see Aida anywhere easily obtained in those counts yet. I want to see 11 count Aida more available as blanks for my own purposes
omg y’all are too sweet 😭 such a fun video i think these are all such interesting and plausible predictions!! maybe y’all will influence the trends being such trendsetters yourselves!! 💚
AI is very definitely present in full coverage at least, even with the bigger sites and not just etsy. A couple of them like haed will state whether the pattern is ai but I think part of that relies on artist disclosure and I don't think that always happens. There's only unconventionalxstitch (as far as I know) that states on their front page that there's no ai on their site. And unfortunately, there's a few people I've seen during (full coverage) wip parades where up to 90% of their pieces are ai generated and that's just depressing. 😩
I just love ALL of your videos. And I know it must be so much work to plan as many videos that you create. But you guys have done a lot of different videos. Here is my response to your predictions: Yes, more animals but more of those stand ups. I envision a “Stacy Nash” generic vintage bear with clothes similar to her Halloween mask. And more stand ups in general Like the “genre” SAL (can I use a fairy pattern to be in Princess SAL) Go Aida bashing Also I think people will do something similar to your “murder mystery SAL - I won’t be done by February but I thought the idea was hilarious and fun!! Happy New Years❤
I don’t do witches, Halloween or gore so for me it’s immaterial if it happens or not. I rarely follow trends a lot of stitchers are also turning to stamped cross stitch because it’s much easier to
thank you for bringing up the conversation around AI. it's unfortunate that's it's considered a controversial topic in the artist community, because people who use it argue that it's an "accessibility" when in reality it is just stealing. as far as trends go though, i'm new to the craft, so i'm the outlier when it comes to no new starts/using from stash since I have to build up! but it does feel like i'm starting at the worst possible time because of how prices are fluctuating, especially with shipping.
Right off the bat 🦇 I agree pink will be big and green faced witches will be all we’ll see for Halloween because of Wicked! Personally I don’t have hardly any new starts planned. Maybe 6 for now and one is Merry Merry but I am considering a pink conversion with a lighter green than the normal pattern has!❤ love this video ladies!😊
Such a fun video!! Would love to see most of these play out and would predict this video helps make it happen. 😋 Am definitely a makeitmurder convert myself-that will be a trend in my own cross stitch for a long time. 👀🔎
For the paper copy/PDF copy, a lot of RPGs are moving that way. For example, my husband bought a book at one of our local gaming stores and then he (because this store isn't super well organized) will email the store, provide image of the receipt, and he'll get a PDF of the book, as well. Of course, in my case, I don't have a nearby LNS, so that's harder, but if I were to buy from 123stitch, how nice would it be to also get a PDF of that chart I bought when they ship my order?
In my world, pink is ALWAYS on trend😊 I didnt even know about Ai and Im still a bit clueless, but when i bought my irish princess chart, I think I got some back door comments thrown my way. Where I was thinking I was doing something good by buying from a small shop😂
I think More will concentrate on their WIPs, reduce number of SALs they join, set their stitching goals to more realistic. I stitch on Aida, Evenweave & Linen, from 14 count to 40 count. And I heard many fabrics especially overdyed ones will have a price increase this year. :( I also agree that a neutral tan fabric color will be a big seller, as so many more stitchers are doing Samplers. I wonder what themes designers will push towards or do more Series types. And what Finishes they do more of, like Pin-keeps, animals, strawberries, pillows, stand-ups ...
I think the low buy trend will pan out. And I'm looking more at older kits instead of older patterns. I like some of Joan Elliotr stuff and I'm pretty sure were I have a choice between buying a kit or doing it myself if I'm careful on Ebay I come out better with the kit. I also think that small dyers are going to continue to have problems especially in Europe. They are stricter about what chemicals can be used. It will be fun to see if any of this true for 2025. As always a great video ladies.
I am noticing a surge of crow patterns being released and also blessing samplers? I didn’t notice them Jan 2024 and I’m a little confused on EXACTLY what they are. I think the push back against AI will grow as more people are educated and spread the word. I also agree we will be seeing more stitching from stash/lower starts. Cyclical trend, we all have to balance it out.
Neat topic. I also plan more on stitching from my stash. I have never done a mystery SAL or any other SAL, so I don't anticipate doing one this year. For me, my focus this year is to join challenges like the "wip warriors" and "eye spy" from stitching by the shore (or your challenges) to keep my wips feeling exciting but also getting some done.
I agree with the animals and doing more dyi and thrifting to get what you want. I have lots of aida I got 2nd hand from someone selling a big lot of it. All white and oatmeal color mostly and I have some rit dye and plan to not have to buy fabric for a long time. I do both cross stitch and hand embroidery and I've seen people embroidering shoes and sweatshirts SO much. Lots of other things too. Bags, hats, etc. I am inspired! I actually have planned to cross stitch on a sweatshirt with water soluble stuff for the cross stitch grid. But I wonder if that's more in the hand embroidery world where they embroider everything. I find more peace cross stitching but I love both.
I do wish issuing a pdf when paper was purchased was standard practice. Personally I wont work off paper so I will ONLY buy a paper chart when I know the designer doesn't do pdfs. But that means that I can't support shops either brick and morter or online shops by buying a paper chart then reaching out for a pdf. I feel the whole "pdfs are easier to distribute illegally" is so silly as anyone can make tons of paper copies as well. Easier technically BUT it's not like paper is immune from being illegally distributed. I'd love to support shops more but still get my pdf!
Agree! I can make tons of copies and give them out. And post online. As well as sharing pdfs. But I don’t because it’s illegal. But I don’t stitch from paper charts. It takes times to scan to markup R-XP but I do it.
Yes to mixed genres! I want a long dog sampler type with pop culture link ghostbusters. Or like hidden images similar to the This is Fine made of all the little f* words
Sorry, I listened three different times and I could not get the name of Tara's cross stitch something river crafts I think you said. Would you mind sharing?
I actually skipped a New Year start this year! I have too many things to do....and I'm old... I completely agree with the AI stuff. I won't buy from a company that uses AI. Not only does that mean a real human isn't being paid but also the AI was trained on work it had no permission to use. It's all stolen. And yes what it's doing to the planet is also a huge issue.
Interesting topics. As for the Aida prediction, it seems you are labeling a certain economically and hinting at age discrimination. While I can afford linen, I hate stitching on it. So purchasing Aida has absolutely nothing to do with cost. It’s a preference. As the economy turns for the better in January, maybe this prediction will be proven wrong as folks can afford a hobby and groceries. Additionally, it’s interesting for you to pigeon hole the US as depressed or sad in November. You make lots of generalities that seem unfair.
Okay first off this was so fun!
I’m really manifesting the pdf option while still purchasing a paper chart, I love my pattern binder and supporting my ONS’s, but the functionality of a PDF is unmatched!

ooh I could totally see aida being big this year! I think it's becoming more common knowledge that you can soften and hand dye aida!
I LOVE this trend video. BRING ON the pink witches and the designs done in Nocturne purple (the Kona color of the year) on Mocha Mousse!! Also thank you for the discussion on AI in cross stitch and art in general. I appreciate hearing your take.

Really enjoyed this! Unicorn + snake does sound like something I’d do lol
I love me some Aida and a good light brown so I’m up for both of these predictions! Happy stitching!
I am following the trend stitching my stash to save a few bucks, cost of things ( craft items and just basic needs like food and utilities) are creeping up
Quaker / fancy lady lol I’d def do it just to be clear.

Single redeem PDF patterns (Ravelry codes) for paper copies have been a thing for over a decade in the knitting community, I would love to see it in other crafts!
This was super fun to watch. ❤
I was waiting to hear your mirabilia prediction for which print is going to go out of print and skyrocket in demand/cost.
Loved this episode ladies, what an interesting take on ringing in the new year! Can’t wait for you to revisit at the end of the year!
The pop culture is starting the year off with the Witchy Stitcher and her Eras pattern on Patron

I'm loving the darker brown fabric with teals/blues/mint colours.

here's to light brown fabric, because a lot of my early attempts at fabric dyeing were accidentally shades of light brown lol
I think less full coverage pieces. So you don't to have to have a sheet to stitch on.

I think there’s gonna be more birds in 2025 but I might have gotten a little insider knowledge 🫣
Let it be so!!!
